A forgettable addition to the genre. It's not badly composed but failed to grab me. It's really a shame that this wasn't better. |

The Ocean Heliocentric | 5.0 |
Alcest Écailles De Lune | 4.0 |
Emotional, well composed, and generally pretty damn good. I'm impressed. DarkNoctus is right to a point. I get the feeling that the first half of the album is stronger than the last half, but that last half is still pretty damn good.
Rating Upped; the more I listen to it the more I'm impressed with this album. |
High on Fire Snakes for the Divine | 3.5 |
Borknagar Universal | 4.0 |
Whirling Faceless Phenomena | 2.0 |
Whirling is what you could call a blend of experimental, avant-garde, with a touch of post-black metal from Germany. there is not a lot of information about the band out, but I was intrigued so decided to give it a try.
I tend to like odd and experimental music. I didn't like this one. I wanted to like this album. While the instrumental work is innovative at points, the guitar tuning itself really starts to grate on you the more you listen to. To be fair to this album and those of you that are really into the avant-garde genre, this might be a good listen.
The first decent song I heard was the third track and after 3 minutes of it I found I didn't enjoy it anymore. After giving the album a double digit number of listens I found that my perception of the album had not improved, but then again it hadn't worsened either.
All-in-all, this is a mediocre addition to the avant-garde genre. |

Upon further listening I become less impressed. Perhaps a bit over-optimistic to begin with. This album is just another 'progressive' Death metal band and this album falls squarely into the "haven't I heard this before?" category. It's not a bad album, but it's not terribly innovative. |
