Not only has Elitist not been able to find a decent vocalist that even remotely pulls off the power and emotion of Jacob Katz's voice but they haven't been able to keep up musically since 'Caves'. The song writing is completely over saturated with ambient yet uninspiring leads that block out alot of the generally more interesting riffing. It just feels like there is a lack of variety in the album as a whole. When i heard Unto the Sun and then Reshape Reason i literally thought my computer bugged out because i thought it was replaying Unto the Sun again, unfortunately my computer didn't crap out and in fact Reshape Reason has a strikingly similar introduction. Either Elitist is still naive to what made Caves so great and are struggling to re create a record of that caliber again or they are truly set out on their own path to do whatever they see fit(which i can respect but am not digging the new style). Elitist was probably going to be my favorite band but now with 2 disappointing releases, ('Earth' being the first disappointment) i'm not sure i can say that anymore ): Monuments (UK) Gnosis3.0The Afterimage Formless2.5The Faceless Autotheism4.0The Contortionist Intrinsic2.0Glass Cloud The Royal Thousand1.5Periphery Periphery II: This Time It's Personal5.0Reflections The Fantasy Effect2.0Terrible production, annoying vocals, guitar wankery everywhere and just bad song writing in general. I have played through the album probably 7 times already and it really just doesn't satisfy. 15 songs sounded mind-blowing and yet the majority of them are just filler, uninspired, chugfests with keyboard sections coming in and out. Either that or its some shitty attempt at making dubstep. Also, where the hell are the epic leads?!? Sure there are a shit load of solos but they are purely wankage and lack any sort of emotion at all (minus the solo in recreate). The album is not terrible at all and was quite enjoyable at times but i feel boo really went for quantity over quality on this record which is its biggest downfall. My favorite tracks: Recreate, Dissimulation, Follow the Signs and Two Worlds of Design. Protest the Hero Scurrilous4.0The Human Abstract Digital Veil3.0Solid album, no where near as good as the first one though.rGood: New vocalist, better writing then Midhaven rBad: Lacks the diversity of Nocturne and is a bit repetitive 2010 ERRA Andromeda3.0After the Burial In Dreams1.5Conducting from the Grave Revenants2.0Completely underwhelming album compared to the first /:Skrillex Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites3.0TesseracT Concealing Fate4.0The Contortionist Exoplanet4.0Elitist Caves5.0Journal Unlorja4.5Shadow of the Colossus Shadow of the Colossus4.5Skrillex My Name Is Skrillex3.0Rings of Saturn Embryonic Anomaly3.5As I Lay Dying The Powerless Rise3.5Haunted Shores Cyclamen/Haunted Shores Split4.0Periphery Periphery4.0Veil of Maya [id]3.5Structures All of the Above4.0Volumes The Concept of Dreaming4.0Counterparts Prophets4.0Martyrdom (USA-CA) Slaying GIants3.52009 Painted in Exile Revitalized4.5Circle of Contempt Artifacts in Motion4.5Between the Buried and Me The Great Misdirect4.0Return From Exile Return From Exile5.0Crapped my pants the first time listening to these guys, some of the best melodic sections in metal period(thankfully there are tons of them)! I love every aspect of this band, Guitars are epic, drums are never repetitive and the vocals compliment the music perfectly. Not sure why people aren't digging the vocals, personally i would kill to be able to hit some of the high screams the vocalist does! Amazing stuff! The new music they have been writing sounds amazing though!2008 The Faceless Planetary Duality5.0At Dawn Undead EP4.0Have loved this band for years, unfortunately "Rapture" wasn't to good other than "Project Blue" which for the most part, stuck with the original At Dawn sound. This band honestly got me into the Metal scene way back when and i haven't left yet, Thanks At Dawn!
