Crosses Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete.4.0
Horniest album I've ever heard

2022
Boundaries Burying Brightness4.5
Stray from the Path Euthanasia4.5
Stray has never really done much for me as a band, as much as I adore Craig Reynolds, but them leaning heavier into their metalcore sound with heaps of distortion and breakdowns makes me want to run up a fucking hill. I beg you, don't sleep on this record, it's their Long Live or whatever the fuck you kids say.
Ithaca They Fear Us4.0
This album is fucking incredible, what the hell
Windwaker Love Language4.5
I might just have to give this a review to show this album the respect it deserves.
Rolo Tomassi Where Myth Becomes Memory4.5
Album is actually excellent wtf ?Prescience? is the hardest shit in the world

2021
Turnstile Glow On4.5
This is album of the year and I haven't even listened to it yet
Edit: I was right.
Olivia Rodrigo Sour4.0
Architects For Those That Wish to Exist2.0
I actually went into this wanting to give it a fair chance, and while it's not as bad as I was expecting, it is horribly one-note and monotonous. The majority of tracks follow the same structure of synth/electronic base track with a basic lead riff, then a heavy emphasis on the chorus, none of which are catchy enough to justify their overabundance. There are no real songs here that are cringe-inducing (Little Wonder does come close, the chorus of which is an almost tragic self-fulfilling prophecy for the band) but comparatively, none stand out on first listen, and all of the guest vocals feel terribly underutilized. It's a palatable album, sure, but very homogenous and uninspired.

2020
Palm Reader Sleepless4.5
Bring Me the Horizon Post Human: Survival Horror4.0
Svalbard When I Die, Will I Get Better?4.5
This album fucks. There are so many moments throughout the record's 38-minute runtime
that really make you stop and go; "okay wait, that was sick". Not only is When I Die,
Will I Get Better?
the band's crowning achievement to date but an absolute front
runner for metal AOTY. This whole album slaps, but my personal favourites are 'Open
Wound', 'Listen To Someone' and 'The Currency Of Beauty'. Gold star, Svalbard.
Misery Signals Ultraviolet4.0
'Through Vales Of Blue Fire' not opening Ultraviolet is a legitimate head scratcher and the criticism toward the length of the album is valid. Still, this is quality material from Misery Signals, and we're pretty fortunate these songs came together at all. 'Old Ghosts', 'Redemption Key' and 'Cascade Locks' are all incredible and every track demands an attentive ear. I'm normally one for albums erring on the shorter side as I think it promotes replayability, but I do agree an extra song on here would not go amiss.
Make Them Suffer How to Survive a Funeral3.0
I've appreciated everything the band has done up until this point, but truthfully I find this pretty underwhelming. Falling Ashes and Soul Decay are kinda cool, but nothing else really stands out that much aside from The Attendant, which is apparently a leftover cut from Worlds Apart.
The Ghost Inside The Ghost Inside4.0
At first I felt a little underwhelmed by this release, because despite everythign the band had gone through at that point, it felt like a safe release and I was expecting a little more. However, after listening to the 1333 Days podcast detailing the band's accident and return to form, it's hard not to see the album in a new light and appreciate the fact it exists to begin with.
The Amity Affliction Everyone Loves You... Once You Leave Them2.0
Idk how they did it but this is somehow worse than Misery.

King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard Infest the Rats' Nest4.5
Gravemind Conduit4.0
Varied enough to not be monotonous to listen to. Pretty solid deathcore album.
Baroness Gold and Grey3.5
Despite the ill-fitting production and an overabundance of interlude tracks, Gold & Grey is
still a fitting swan song for Baroness' colour spectrum themed albums, with some of their best
tracks of their career to date. If you don't think 'Tourniquet' is one of the best songs they've ever
put to record, you're crooked (mile, lmao).
Weyes Blood Titanic Rising5.0
This is the best Lana Del Rey album since Born To Die.
Bring Me the Horizon Amo4.0
Honestly this album surprised the hell out of me. Pre-release singles felt a little bland but work well in the context of the album. I worry about the longevity of this record as I feel it might be something that I might get burnt out on, but for the time being it's pretty enjoyable. Highlights: 'Nihilist Blues', 'In The Dark', 'Wonderful Life', 'Sugar Honey Ice & Tea', 'Heavy Metal'.

2018
JID DiCaprio 24.0
Architects Holy Hell3.5
To be perfectly blunt, this record does sound a lot like All Our Gods... part 2, but considering the circumstances surrounding it, I guess that's kind of the point? I'd take this record with a grain of salt, as it doesn't take a huge step forward in sound, but certainly fulfills its purpose. Highlights: 'Hereafter', 'Royal Beggars', 'Modern Misery', 'The Seventh Circle'.
Dork Outreach Food5.0
Brockhampton Iridescence4.0
Dork Outreach Welcome 2 The Program5.0
The Amity Affliction Misery2.5
Definitely an improvement over This Could Be Heartbreak but Misery still falls short of expectation as Amity refuse to shake up their sound by any great margin. Highlights: 'Holier Than Heaven', 'Kick Rocks', 'Drag The Lake'.
Mac Miller Swimming4.0
I'll admit I never really listened to much of his work until after he died, but this album has been on repeat for a long while. The dichotomy of how chill and relaxed everything sounds with his vulnerable lyricism makes for a really engaging - and heartbreaking listen.
Denzel Curry TA13OO4.5
Kendrick better watch his fucking back.rHighlights: Black Balloons, Switch It Up, Sirens, Percs, Vengeance, Black Metal Terrorist.
Meg Myers Take Me To The Disco4.5
As indicative by its "throwback" album cover, Myers is trying to capture a very niche early 00's sound, and she does it largely without fault. She has a dynamic range, straddling the line between delicate melodies and aggressive bangers. I love this album.
Pusha T DAYTONA4.5
Jon Hopkins Singularity4.0
Sleep The Sciences4.0
Kali Uchis Isolation4.0
Will Haven Muerte3.0
I consider myself a big Will Haven fan but I have to say I'm a little disappointed by this so far. It's crushingly heavy and hard-hitting but the whole album sounds way too similar. Voir Dire was a much stronger album.
Between the Buried and Me Automata I4.0
Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It4.0
Endless Heights Vicious Pleasure4.5
I enjoyed this record when it came out, but it's only going back to listen to it now that I realize how incredibly well put together it is. Definitely a grower.

Little Simz A Curious Tale Of Trials + Persons4.0
Bring Me the Horizon That's the Spirit3.0
Fish absolutely shines on That's The Spirit, with the extensive sampling and electronics making up some
of the best tracks on the album in the form of 'Doomed', 'Throne', 'Avalanche' and 'Run'. Moreover, Sykes
ability to sing is never in doubt, meaning that the chorus heavy approach (for the most part) pays off. This is
why it's so interesting to gauge the level of experimentation the band uses. Tracks like 'What You Need' and
'Blasphemy' are borderline insufferable, despite following the same pattern as the majority of the album, while
the monumental closer of 'Oh No' somehow works - despite the most pop-friendly as Sykes echoes "Don't call
it a party, 'cause it never stops" before throwing us a curveball as we're played out by saxophone. That's The
Spirit
is more or less a primer in radio rock - and if you don't mind a chorus stuck in your head for a day,
then you'll find quite a bit to enjoy here.
Defeater Abandoned3.5
Less accessible, yet more consistent than Letters Home, which unfortunately means the tracks tend to
bleed together a little bit. The album's second half is far better than the first few tracks, though there's
nothing downright unlistenable on here. 'Atonement' slays and the guest vocals on 'Borrowed & Blue'
(whomever they belong to) really add a nice flavour to the track. I can see this growing on me with a few more
listens.
The Sword High Country3.0
Stories (AUS) The Youth to Become4.5
This is gradually becoming one of my favourite releases of 2015. Stories take obvious influence from Underoath, but add their own signature sounds to make for some metalcore that may not necessarily be unique, but moves from strength to strength across 11 tracks.
Counterparts Tragedy Will Find Us4.0
Carry me back to your bed. My conscience is my coffin, and I swear sometimes I'd rather be dead.
Northlane Node4.0
Don't go into this expecting regular Northlane because it's the furthest thing from Discoveries or
Singularity. 'Ohm', 'Leech' and the newly recorded 'Rot' all sound massive, and 'Animate' might be one of
my favourite Northlane tracks.
Tame Impala Currents2.5
I appreciate the change in direction and the idea of valuing risk instead of releasing the same record again, but suffice to say this is very disappointing.
Refused Freedom3.0
Threedom
August Burns Red Found in Far Away Places4.0
Anybody who has even the slightest concern for the future of August Burns Red's career need to go listen to 'Martyr' right now. One of the most impressive metalcore records I've heard in ages.
Jamie xx In Colour4.0
Make Them Suffer Old Souls4.0
It's not quite the leap forward from Neverbloom that I was hoping, but Old Souls proves to be much
more refined and consistent in sound, and the heavier lean on melody and orchestral elements help make this
so. 'Blood Moon' is the only song that really feels out of place here, and regrettably drags the rest of the
record down. Luckily the good outweighs the bad with the likes of 'Requiem', 'Let Me In', 'Scraping The Barrel'
and 'Timeless', the latter of which remains an emotional number, only just overshadowed by the album's
closing title track.
Turnover Peripheral Vision5.0
In Hearts Wake Skydancer3.5
Earth Caller Degenerate4.0
If you're craving a crushing hardcore release that doesn't make you sigh, thinking you've heard it all before, then Earth Caller have an album for you. Valiant and energetic, without dipping into homogenous territory or uninspired lyrics, Degenerate is a captivating listen from start to finish.
Horsehunter Caged In Flesh4.0
For a bunch of dudes who just came out of high school, this release is fucking insane. Sludge and doom perfection that isn't too long or short in length. Can't wait to see what these guys do next.
Gang of Youths The Positions4.5
This is far and away one of the best debut albums I've heard in a long, long time. The concept is executed without flaw and each song drives such melody and emotion.
Belle Haven Everything Ablaze2.5
Action Bronson Mr. Wonderful3.5
While She Sleeps Brainwashed4.0
This might be one of the only modern metalcore albums that is enhanced by the deluxe tracks.
Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly5.0
Title Fight Hyperview3.0
Hellions Indian Summer4.0
'Nottingham' and 'Ghoul' absolutely slay. Colour me impressed.
Lupe Fiasco Tetsuo and Youth4.0
Enter Shikari The Mindsweep4.0
You know Shikari's progressing when they deliberately leave out a track that starts with Sss or Zzz!
Storm The Sky Permanence2.5
Jarrett is a more than a capable singer, and the production on the album is quite good for the most part. Problem is there's nothing much in the way of originality here. Standouts include 'Alive', 'Portraits' and 'Oh Sister'.

2014
The Smashing Pumpkins Monuments to an Elegy3.0
Monuments To An Elegy is a mostly pleasant, if somewhat mildly inoffensive release.
Glass Bones Loner4.0
More like Boner amirite? Thisoundoffprobablyneedsmorecharacters
Circa Survive Descensus4.0
The Ghost Inside Dear Youth3.0
I'm so sick of TGI creating one stellar track that's leaps and bounds in front of the rest of the album. Who wants to bet which song that's going to be this time? [My money's on Phoenix Flame.] Having said that, why can't they just put out an album full of Shiner's, Chrono's and White Light's?
Job For A Cowboy Sun Eater4.0

Ne Obliviscaris Citadel4.0
Run the Jewels Run the Jewels 24.0
On first listen, RTJ2 seems like an inferior sequel to the duo's lively, accessible debut. I mean sure, the imaginative beats and sampling are there and the lyrics and rapping are still as humorous and tight as ever, but something was missing. My issue was that most of the tracks were slow-burners, which was a disappointment considering the amount of drunken nights I've had featuring the likes of 'Banana Clipper', 'Sea Legs' and 'Get It' among others. Even the fast-paced 'Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)' seemed underwhelming in comparison, hence my disappointment. But then, it occurred to me - did I really want El-P and Killer Mike to make the same album over again? I guess in a sense, yes, a part of me did. However, I'm glad that they tried somewhat of a different approach this time around, while still retaining everything that made the first great.

Childish Gambino STN MTN2.5
Kauai is slightly better than STN MTN, but as a whole, this is really unremarkable.
Between the Buried and Me Future Sequence: Live at the Fidelitorium4.0
Fantastically shot and edited, Live at the Fidelitorium is an intimate and intricate looks at the entirety of Future Sequence. Each member is covered greatly, and you really appreciate all the tiny details that go into each and every track, especially evident in the slew of guest musicians in the form of string and brass sections.
The Contortionist Language4.0
Really impressed after the first listen. Everything sounds much more organic and natural as opposed to the manufactured sound of Intrinsic, and it manages to tread the line between beautiful and heavy. Also, 'Ebb & Flow' is a knockout!

Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate) You Will Eventually Be Forgotten3.5
Pallbearer Foundations of Burden4.0
Fallujah The Flesh Prevails4.0
Regrettably somewhat of a victim to the hype, Fallujah's sophomore album is still a complex and layered slab of technical death metal and arguably their best work.

I didn't really mind The Hunter but Jesus Christ this makes The Hunter look like shit.
Confession Life and Death3.5
It's really nothing groundbreaking, but if you're yearning for a good mosh-core album to nod your head along to, Life and Death brings the junz and brings them hard. Confession's best work.
clipping. CLPPNG3.5
Beartooth Disgusting3.5
'Beaten In Lips' would be so much better if the breakdown it ended on wasn't so pissweak.
Say Anything Hebrews3.5
Once you get past the gimmicky absence of guitars, Hebrews is an album that features some of the group's best songs to date. After the train-wreck that was Anarchy, My Dear I was very concerned about Say Anything's future, but luckily enough to be proved wrong.
The Amity Affliction Let the Ocean Take Me3.0
Arguably their darkest release yet, while still maintaining their catchy, pop punk chorus hooks. Let The Ocean Take Me isn't immediately wowing as the likes of Youngbloods or even Chasing Ghosts due to it housing absolutely no surprises whatsoever. There's some great tracks on here, with the one-two punch of 'Never Alone' and 'Death's Hand' as well as the penultimate 'Forest Fire' being some of the album's best cuts, but ultimately, it's the same Amity you've heard before.

Bury Tomorrow Runes3.5
Structures Life Through a Window3.0
Much more structured than their debut, and the new vocalist is an improvement.

Swans To Be Kind4.5
Closure in Moscow Pink Lemonade4.0
Killer Be Killed Killer Be Killed4.0
Honestly, it's really refreshing to hear a supergroup that actually sounds like an equal divide between the musicians. Everyone here gets their moment in the spotlight, making it a varied listen without sacrificing the sense of identity it builds for itself over its 45 minute runtime.
Baths Ocean Death3.5
In Hearts Wake Earthwalker3.5
Pixies Indie Cindy3.0
It's not classic Pixies, but it's not hat bad. Well, except for 'Ring The Bell'. Seriously, what the fuck is up with that song.
More Than Life What's Left of Me3.5
Truth be told, this is exactly what I wanted in a follow up to Love Let Me Go. Some may argue that rthey've softened up but the new approach is much more emotionally open, which is a subtle change in rdirection but a welcome one, and Jimmy's heart-wrenching vocals certainly reflect that.
Yuck Southern Skies3.5
Foxy Shazam Gonzo2.5
If this is what Gonzo's all about, you can count me out, baby count me out. Just count me out.
Single Mothers Wild Party4.5
An absolute gem of a Post-Hardcore/Screamo style EP.
Animals As Leaders The Joy of Motion4.0
Really good. 'Lippincott', 'Physical Education' and 'Para Mexer' are some outstanding tracks.
Ceres I Don't Want To Be Anywhere But Here4.0
Turns out my hometown of Melbourne can get emo too! A must listen.
Wolfmother New Crown2.5
La Dispute Rooms of the House4.0
Architects Lost Forever // Lost Together3.5
Architects really caught me off guard with this one. Disregarding the kinda average song titles, Lost Forever // Lost Together is the closest thing they've come to sounding like their Hollow Crown glory days. The album is very solid, and has a nice atmosphere littered throughout that doesn't sound too political or too personal found on the likes of Daybreaker and The Here And Now, respectively. It's still very much a chug-a-thon metalcore record, but going in expecting disappointment has left me quite surprised. A fine return to form.
Buried in Verona Faceless2.5
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard Oddments3.0
Dangers 5 O'Clock Shadows At The Edge Of The Western World3.5
This is really awesome, it's just a shame it's so short. I kinda wished they saved this material for a third full-length. Still, this is classic Dangers.
Kid Cudi Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon3.5
Arguably what 2013's Indicud should have been, Satellite Flight is a much fuller, more concise effort, and while it doesn't reach the peaks of either his Man on the Moon full-lengths, it's far from terrible. 'Going To The Ceremony' and 'Too Bad I Have To Destroy You Now' are proof that Mescudi can still create some killer tracks, of which were few and far between on his last full-length.
The Hotelier Home, Like NoPlace Is There4.0
I Killed the Prom Queen Beloved3.5
Nothing too radically different from what they were putting out before their breakup. Jamie Hope retains his
reputation as an excellent vocalist, and Weinhofen's cleans continue to impress. Simply put, if you were a fan
already, you'll likely find something to enjoy here, but it's a shame the band can't put out an album full of
Melior's, Kjrlighet's and Brevity's.
Cynic Kindly Bent to Free Us2.5
Kindly prog to prog us is a disappointing affair. Kind of like when mum cheated on dad with Gavin from work and he turned out to be a real bummer. Probably cause he listened to this album. Poor Gavin.
Crosses Crosses3.5
If you ignore that fact that 66% of the album has been available for years, then the album is really very solid.
Moody and atmospheric and the new track order flows really well. Probably the closest thing we'll get to a new
Team Sleep record.
Modern Baseball You’re Gonna Miss It All4.0
I've changed by stance on this, as the maturity of You're Gonna Miss It All breaks Modern Baseball into a new, refreshing emo sound. Sports initially was superior because of it's catchy hooks, but there's just something so real and human about this record. Definitely one of my favourite bands right now. Can't wait to see where they go next.

Burial Rival Dealer4.5
Just when you think you have him pinned down, Burial pulls some shit like this. With Rival Dealer, we get to see the more dance and hip-hop side to William Bevan, in a way that might not necessarily be flooring, but intriguing all the same. 'Come Down To Us' is exceptional though.
Childish Gambino Because the Internet3.5
Donald Glover takes a stab at creating a Channel Orange inspired album that is neither as consistent nor as
remarkable as Channel Orange.

One of the catchiest and most memorable records this year. Post-punk lives!

We Came As Romans Tracing Back Roots2.5
They've made some improvements in their abilities. Kyle's vocals, while still not great, are a huge improvement than previous attempts and the addition of Dave's clean singing is a nice touch as well, as his voice is much easier to listen to. Having said that, the songwriting and lyrics seems to have regressed, resulting in more generic, 'anthemic' songs.
Hands Like Houses Unimagine3.5
Counterparts The Difference Between Hell and Home4.5
The Difference Between Hell and Home combines the best parts of Counterparts previous two full-lengths, resulting in some of their strongest material. Every track is in a league of its own, with some exceptional highlights being 'Compass', 'Slave' and 'Soil'. Remarkable album.
Misery Signals Absent Light4.5
If the songwriting on Absent Light proves anything, it's that even after a five year absence, Misery Signals are the frontrunners for modern metalcore and still miles ahead of their contemporaries.
Beartooth Sick3.5
Nothing groundbreaking, but a pretty fun EP. Much more mature and focused than anything Attack Attack! ever did, although Shomo's vocals still have some room for improvement. I'm interested to see where this band goes.
Defeater Letters Home3.5
As a huge Defeater fanboy, I feel compelled to love this, but truth be told, I'm finding it hard to. The fact that half of the tracks share the same 'No' prefix make it hard to distinguish between them, while the remainder of the tracks are solid but very few outstanding. A few exceptions being 'Bastards', 'No Relief' and 'Rabbit Foot' which save the album from being average. Ambition was what kept Empty Days and Sleepless Nights from becoming stale, but to much disappointment, on Letters Home, it feels like the band have regressed somewhat. Is it a bad album? No. Is it disappointing? Unfortunately, yeah, it is.

Palms Palms3.5
As a massive fan of both Isis and Deftones, Palms debut album is enjoyable but falls into the trap of sounding pretty much exactly like what you'd expect it to. I'm sure it could grow on me more if given the chance, but its predictability dampens the once promising impact.
August Burns Red Rescue & Restore4.0
This has grown on me a lot. From the meaningful and inspirational lyrics to the the diverse and wide variety of musical experimentation, August Burns Red have really taken a step forward as a band, resulting in their most consistent release yet.
Kanye West Yeezus4.0
Yeezy takes us on an incredible aural journey because he "understands culture".

I've changed my mind, the second half of Getting Sodas is just too damn good for this not to be a 4.5.
Listener Time Is A Machine4.5
The Black Dahlia Murder Everblack3.5
Pretty much what you'd expect from The Black Dahlia Murder. 'In Hell Is Where She Waits For Me' and 'Every Rope A Noose' are killer tracks.

Not as immediately awesome as Black Gives Way To Blue was but still a fantastic record. While the first half of the album is stronger than the second, 'Phantom Limb' is easily the album's standout. Something akin to 'A Looking In View'.

Northlane Singularity3.5
Not as good as Discoveries, but still a solid album. The one/two punch of Windbreaker and Worldeater is one the band's strongest moments on record and despite Masquerade having some uninspired lyrics, it's catchy as hell.

Shane Carruth Upstream Color4.0
Absolutely stunning. The score to Upstream Color is engrossing, beautiful and proves Carruth's talent as a composer as well as filmaker.
Iceage You're Nothing3.5
Shai Hulud Reach Beyond the Sun4.5
With the return of Chad Gilbert on vocals, and the consistently stellar guitar work of Matt Fox, Shai Hulud have arguably created their finest piece of music in the entirety of their eighteen year career.
Foals Holy Fire4.0
More like Holy Fuck, amirite??????????????????????
Coheed and Cambria The Afterman: Descension4.0

CityCop / Les Doux Family Ties/Labors of Love3.5
Touche Amore/Pianos Become the Teeth Split3.5
It's a shame the band limit themselves to just one song each on this split, as this is clearly some of their best work to date. Both songs are very impressive.

Hey Dev, is it cool if I change my end of year list?
Burial Truant/Rough Sleeper4.0

Code Orange Love Is Love // Return To Dust2.5
A poor man's Converge. Props to them though, being young and all, but I just don't think this record is too engaging.
Captain Murphy Duality4.0
Duality > good kid, m.a.a.d. city. I'll fucking fight you.
Deftones Koi No Yokan4.0
Seven albums in and Deftones show no signs of slowing down. Koi No Yokan is remarkably consistent. The only tracks that don't do anything for me are the album finishers of 'Goon Squad' and 'What Happened To You?', and they're not even bad, just underwhelming in comparison to the rest of the record.
Flume Flume3.0
Crystal Castles Crystal Castles III4.0
Parkway Drive Atlas3.5
Parkway Drive's songwriting skills have improved tenfold with Atlas, and the experimentation with guest vocals and orchestral arrangements make this quite an enjoyable metalcore record.
Neurosis Honor Found in Decay3.5
Titus Andronicus Local Business3.0
If The Monitor is a huge night out of fun, great music and memorable moments, then Local Business is like a hangover the morning after. Weak, sluggish and tired in comparison.
The Sword Apocryphon3.5
Kendrick Lamar good kid, m.A.A.d city4.5
This is nowhere near as awesome as everyone's making it out to be.

The Acacia Strain Death Is the Only Mortal3.5
Coheed and Cambria The Afterman: Ascension3.5
The album feels much tighter as a whole, even if some tracks are stronger than others. My only real complaint
is that it's very short, especially by Coheed standards, but this is just half of a double album so it's to be
expected. Both albums played one after the other will sound mindblowing though.
Converge All We Love We Leave Behind4.0
Legitimately awesome...like we expected anything less. The one, two punch of 'Sadness Comes Home' and 'Empty On The Inside' is phenomenal and 'Coral Blue' might just be one of their best tracks to date. Not to mention the title-track. Excellent album.
Between the Buried and Me The Parallax II: Future Sequence4.0
Incredibly solid album. Pretty standard for BTBAM but still amazing. 'Silent Flight Parliament' for song of the year.
Tame Impala Lonerism4.0

JJ DOOM Key To The Kuffs3.5
The Faceless Autotheism3.5
While She Sleeps This Is the Six4.0
Truth be told, this is an impressive metalcore release. Every member performs exceptionally, and Lawrence Taylor's meaningful lyrics make this a stand out amongst others of the genre. A little more vocal variety would've made it more so, however.
Dark Time Sunshine ANX4.0
Antagonist A.D. Nothing From No One3.5
The Contortionist Intrinsic3.0
Bury Tomorrow The Union of Crowns3.5
Baroness Yellow and Green4.5
Frank Ocean channel ORANGE5.0
Sure, the production is good, and Ocean's singing and beats certainly accentuate this, but it's something
about the atmosphere this album generates that solidify Channel Orange as one of the most important
RnB records released in the past ten years.
House Vs. Hurricane Crooked Teeth2.5
A few good tracks but nothing truly spectacular. Perspectives was ten times better than this.
Periphery Periphery II: This Time It's Personal3.5
Their next album will round out the trilogy. 'Peripherthree' is coming soon.
Dads American Radass (This Is Important)4.0
The Broderick Free to Rot, Free of Sin4.5
Gojira L'Enfant Sauvage4.0
Listening to this album may create The Heaviest Boner of the Universe.
The Ghost Inside Get What You Give3.5
Another excellent album to add to their discography. The one-two punch of Dark Horse/White Light is probably the best thing they've ever done.
The Smashing Pumpkins Oceania4.0
The Tallest Man on Earth There's No Leaving Now4.0
Future of the Left The Plot Against Common Sense4.0
Ne Obliviscaris Portal of I4.5
The fact that Ne Obliviscaris managed to make a 70 minute full-length album that never sounds too over indulgent is quite a feat. Especially for this type of music.
Architects Daybreaker3.0
It's a solid record overall, but the band really fail to create any standout tracks, save for a few decent pre-release ones. Architects have regained some of their lost ground, but aren't quite all the way there yet.
Clams Casino Instrumental Mixtape 23.5

Job For A Cowboy Demonocracy3.0
Pelican Ataraxia/Taraxis3.0
High on Fire De Vermis Mysteriis4.0
The Mars Volta Noctourniquet2.5
The song-writing on this album is really solid, with a few really standout tracks ('The Whip Hand', 'Dyslexicon', 'Zed and Two Naughts'), but I can't shake the the notion of how forced this whole album feels. It doesn't necessarily come across as lazy, but you kind of get the vibe that none of the members really want to be there. It's odd really, and to be perfectly honest, this would probably worth a 3.5 or maybe even a 4 if it weren't for the whole unconvincing charade going on underneath the music.
Meshuggah Koloss3.5
La Dispute Conversations3.0
OFWGKTA The OF Tape Vol. 23.5
Say Anything Anarchy, My Dear1.5
It's a depressing thought that Max's songwriting skills were far superior when he was miserable.

With the exception of 'Antarctica' this is terribly underwhelming.
Ceremony (USA-CA) Zoo3.0
Every Time I Die Ex Lives4.0
Pond (AUS) Beard, Wives, Denim4.0
Sigh In Somniphobia3.5
After Scenes From Hell, I thought Sigh had lost the plot, descending into a endless void of wankery and cheap gimmicks. So, listening to this with zero expectations whatsoever, I was really quite surprised. Their flaws are still here, as prominent as ever, but they're on their upward climb back to the top. 'Amnesia' is hands down, one of my top tracks for this year.

Lana Del Rey Born to Die4.0
Honest to god don't know why I like this, but I do. I really do.
Foxy Shazam The Church of Rock and Roll4.0
Attack Attack! This Means War2.5
Despite their minor progression, Caleb's vocal technique is cringeworthy at points, the instrumentation is as bland as ever and the song structure is uninspired. 'The Wretched' is the standout track on the album but definitely a step in the right direction. More songs like that is the way to go.
Enter Shikari A Flash Flood of Colour4.0
At first I was skeptical of this album, due to the lack of the once promised 'Destabilise' and 'Quelle Surprise', both of which are fantastic songs. But as it turns out, this record is innovative, meaningful and above all, a lot of fun. No filler and not one skippable track. Even my once hated 'Gandhi Mate, Gandhi' works well within the context of the album, and 'Warm Smiles Do Not Make You Welcome Here' might be my favourite ever Enter Shikari song.

Skrillex Bangarang2.5
With 'Bangarang' Skrillex absolutely refuses to evolve musically. Whether you'll like it is determined by if you enjoyed his previous releases. It's only a bit of fun though, right?
The Weeknd Echoes of Silence4.0
Echoes Of Silence is Tesfaye's darkest, most open offering yet.

Drake improves immensly. A much more consistent record than his first, but it's still not something I'd spin that often.
Childish Gambino Camp3.5
Realistically, this album is probably worth a 3 but I always end up listening to it a lot more than I expect to.
Irrelevant I'll Be OK3.5
Not as consistent and memorable as one would hope, but still an enjoyable album overall. 'Flicker' is a killer track.

Opeth Heritage3.5
People would assume that the negative reception comes from the viewpoint of hardcore Opeth fans, thinking Heritage is a betrayal of Opeth's classic sound. Damnation was different and is one of my most adored Opeth albums. The reason this is a bit of a disappointment is not because it's different, but because it's not a terribly engaging record overall. The best word to describe it would be "underwhelming" but that's not to say it's entirely bad - it has its redeeming tracks and memorable moments.
We Came As Romans Understanding What We've Grown to Be2.5
Essentially To Plant A Seed 2.0, albeit with a bit more filler. If you enjoyed their first album, you'll enjoy this.
The Devil Wears Prada Dead Throne3.5
Formulaic and uninvolved it may be, Dead Throne is still a harmless and largely enjoyable metalcore record.
Thrice Major/Minor4.0
Delusion Twin A Damaged Machine4.0
Thundercat The Golden Age Of Apocalypse3.0
The Weeknd Thursday4.0
Not quite as consistent as House Of Balloons, but still an amazing record.
Gotye Making Mirrors3.5
Design the Skyline Nevaeh1.5
Everything wrong with deathcore now with hideous autotuned vocals and overwhelming synth. It's definitely not as bad as you may think, nor is it as bad as their demo. They've learnt that song structure is in fact essential, and you can see some shape starting to form. Lead single 'Break Free From Your Life' has the most basic song structure, resulting in their best, or most tolerable track from the album. There are a few other moments scattered throughout which shine in comparison (the intro of 'Witch of The Woods' as well as the instrumental of 'Reverie') but fall flat overall.
Dads Brush Your Teeth, Again ;)3.5

The main point of contention for Bohren has been the length of some of their albums; Midnight Radio is the main culprit for being too long, and yet, it's Beileid that feels too short in comparison. Maybe the length was what I got used to, but I kind of wish this wasn't over so quickly.

Lupe Fiasco Lasers2.5
It's pretty decent, but it also doesn't really feel like it came from Lupe himself, which explains why it's so manufactured. Apart from a few exceptional tracks (Words I Never Said, State Run Radio, All Black Everything) it's all pretty generic hip hop. Not a bad cd by any means but a bit average sandwich.

Parkway Drive Deep Blue3.0
It's interesting to think that Parkway Drive's most recognised and well-known album is also probably their worst, musically. It's still a fun romp, with tracks like 'Sleepwalker', 'Karma' and 'Home Is For The Heartless' being particular highlights.
Kvelertak Kvelertak4.5
Drake Thank Me Later2.5
Not an inherently bad album, it has some mildly enjoyable moments, but there's nothing here that will knock you flat and leave you genuinely impressed.

This one is interesting. At first I thought very little of it. Then I pushed it up to 4 once I discovered its potential. After repeated listens, along with some personal memories of mine that are attached to it - I feel that I personally need to give this a 5.

What you get here is essentially dumbed down versions of half of the tracks from 'Traced In Air' which comes off as both lazy and baffling. It sounds fine, no complaints on that front, but the whole thing just screams redundancy considering they were practically perfect the first time around. Despite all this though, 'Wheels Within Wheels' is an incredible song and dare I say, one of the best tracks they've ever written.

It's taken me a while to get into this, but I'm really happy I gave it my time. Despite, sounding cliche, it really is something different in the scene. The album takes more of an ambient approach over a heavy one which makes it something to easily get carried away by. Even to such the extent that it's something I could picture myself falling asleep to. Recommended, but it is a massive grower.

Generic, in every sense of the word. This is basically your cookie-cutter Synth/Metalcore band with nothing going for them. I know that sounds harsh, but it's accurate; the record is actually much worse than I had expected it to be. The only tolerable track is 'Final Episode (Let's Change The Channel)' but that is drastically brought down by generic lyrics, generic instrumentation and a disjointed song structure, making it feel like 3 separate segments as opposed to a whole. Terrible.

Perhaps the best combination of Metalcore and Synth, dare I say...ever?
Even after spinning this EP years after its release, I still struggle to find comparison to another band. Totally
original, and experts in their field, Into The Ocean created an amazing slab of music with Ruins where
every track is an absolute cracker.

2008
Kanye West 808s and Heartbreak4.0
Attack Attack! Someday Came Suddenly1.5
It's a pretty bold move to mix metalcore and electronica elements with absolutely no attempt at subtlety, but the fact is it just fails to work at all. I think what's worse is on their own, these parts actually sound halfway decent, but when they come together, it invokes a horrible mess.

Callahan Callahan3.0
A unique sound, albeit not the most interesting record. Some killer tracks on here among a bit of filler. 'Say Goodnight And Go' is a fucking wicked song.
Between the Buried and Me Colors_Live4.0
There's a few issues regarding camera coverage and the lack of crowd audio (making any attempt at audience sing-a-longs fall flat), but otherwise the entire set is performed near flawlessly. The second set comprised of some of the band's very best tracks is also a very nice addition, and clearly well picked.

IKTPQ build upon the promise shown on their debut to impressive lengths. Ed Butcher is a much better vocalist than Michael Crafter, even if his range is a little minimal. Only truly appreciating this album more than three years after first listening to it, Of Malice and the Magnum Heart is the true definition of a slow burner. For an album to remain relevant in my life for all that time and for me to still find new things to love about it? That's why it deserves a 5.0. Truth be told, if it wasn't for Michael Crafter's horrible vocals and the muddied production, this would be a
solid metalcore record. In fact, from a songwriting perspective, it's actually quite impressive for a debut. Not
every song sounds the same, and instrumentally, it's a lot less generic than most metalcore of that time.
Having said that, the vocals and lyrics do weigh it down a lot, making it only just listenable.

It's hard to describe why I Heard Myself In You is such a phenomenal album. It doesn't do anything out of the ordinary by any means, but it evokes such a wide array of emotions in me when I listen to it. A sense of fading nostalgia, soon followed by the regret of lost youth and anxiety of growing up, but with a brief hint of hope that the future will turn out just fine. Maybe not as you expected, but still great. Much like this album.
