This one was (of course) obnoxiously ignored by many, but has since grown to mean a great deal to me. Bradford sounds very focused, and the band is extremely tight, a few odd tracks, but that is what I love about Deerhunter in the first place.

If this spookily glitchy album is any indication of the next Here We Go Magic release, we should all be readily amped. Luke Temple is clearly writing his most interesting music to date. Just relax, sit back with some headphones and let this cool, crisp ear-jazz wash over you.

This album slipped passed me when it was released. Finally got a hold of it (thanks in part to Nigel Godrich being on the producer credit) and have been in awe of the transition made since "Pigeons". Easily my favorite of theirs; and after seeing a somewhat lackluster performance (although not in its entirety) at Roo a couple years back, this has reaffirmed my affection for Here We Go Magic.

Dark, yet overwhelmingly euphoric at times. This is indeed a conglomeration of everything good about music today, and a landmark effort in production from both Linkous and Burton. The sounds utilized mould each track into something surreal, and the various vocals add to the collage of atmosphere. Warrants multiple listens, and rewards each run through with something new.

This grows on you. The "Old Heads" will probably throw a rock at you for putting on the stereo, but will gasp at the brilliantly executed Jerry Garcia sample. The first track is just so...unnatrual in a way. the second the flutes start flying around i can't tell whether I'm at a pub in Scotland or flying through a beautiful meadow on rainy day. Great from start to finish. And with a little time, every vocal melody will stick in your head for a long, long time.

give this absolute rare gem a spin and make your day better: a heavy dose of garage, math, and whimsical lyrics concocted in the twilight of their pre-hiatus (and lacking none of the bombastic sarcasm that made their live acts so brilliant then) this is a band at a creative peak seemingly doing no wrong. seriously; take a look at the bizarre opener and epic, yet equally beguiling (with a banger of a payoff jam ending) ending track and take a back seat to anything you've heard of this band. jazzy and funky, lyrically nimble and heart-strikingly direct all in the same stroke; each of "Get Hot's" track engage and misdirect evenly and ultimately perfectly.

of Montreal Aldhils Arboretum4.5
This is an extremely important record that carries a strong influence on 21st century psych-pop music. Kevin Barnes and company have been innovating since the early four-tracks, and Aldhils is a key tweak in sound for the band. Its twitchy rhythms and tempos can be heard clearly even on Skeletal Lamping, and are telling of the latter half of Of Montreal's catalogue. "A Question For Emily Foreman" displays some of the bands best guitar work, and "An Ode To the Nocturnal Muse" will make you smile uncontrollably. The entire work is teeming with a psych-pop chaos, yet maintains a nonchalant groove throughout.

This is actually a great intro album for anyone who loves of Montreal's new stuff but just haven't searched much into their back catalogue. In fact, this stands in the pantheon of their more publicized work IMO. Gotta love the feeling of throwing this on, putting your cares aside, and letting the the carefully crafted (oftentimes reminiscent of 'Sgt. Peppers...' and 'Magical Mystery Tour') tunes carry you along for the ride. This one is worth it to the very last track and will have you coming back for more no doubt.

Most likely, you already know, this will go down in history as (perhaps) the greatest EP ever made by any band ever. RIP Ikey... (you are sorely missed)

This could be Of Montreal's most ambitious album. It glistens with great harmonies, various instrumentation (lots of great orchestral/classic piano arrangements), and the quirky song structures and lyrics that make Of Montreal's sound so unique. Some of the best bass work in all of their catalogue as well.

This is without a doubt one of the most over the top, psychedelic albums out there. Every song has so much jammed packed into it; the listener either gets vertigo or dances their ass off. Its hard not to stress the frenzied hip-hoppishness of this classic Beck LP and throw it on the higher pedestals of this magician's career. "Nicotene and Gravy" has always been a favorite of mine. Danceable and catchy. And, naturally, weird in all the right ways.

Pavement Terror Twilight5.0
Without, and beyond any shadows, of a doubt; it will suffer only because it is the end. It is the Abbey Road of pavement except with (I think) some of the best production values and banjo shredding from (of course) Johnny Greenwood? Was Pavement the Beatles of the 90s we never even knew existed? Maybe.

What Fantomas brings to the table: unrelenting, awe-inspiring moments of thrills. The way you feel in free-fall on a roller coaster, the way you can't sleep at night, the blank despair of an unlit room, the shadows in the back of your brain all meld into the free-form idiosyncratic bliss that is their finest album.

Air Premiers Symptomes5.0
Within the first minute of Premiers Symptomes there is an invigorating approach to the sublime. The build up to "Modular Mix" gently pushes your ears into a funky, house groove that warps your head into your headphones or, in the case of speakers, draws you in for the ride serenely. It is the type of release that lets you know, ahead of time, that changing the song is not going to happen for a solid 33.8 minutes. Air is good at this bewilderment upon listening format; but something about "Premiers" gives it a push and shove into a party atmosphere as well as a more than perfect sleep aid. Oh and if you get to that point in the AM where nothing makes sense and you've been glazed-eyed for a good bit, this is an epic electronic soundscape thats sure to spark wave after wave of euphoria. Air means two things to me. Relaxing and partying. Simultaneously. Sorry for spelling errors or brevity. First try at this. PS check out Le Voyage Dans La Lune" after this for a nice one-two punch in the ears.

Classic in the sense that each listen yields new insights into the noises and voices which nonchalantly destroy your ear drums. Plus Kim is awesome on this album; oh and probably the best tracking of any Sonic Youth release. Screaming Skull catches you off guard where it hurts and you can't help fist pumping in between the songs that get you ready for the more melodious segments. Awesome all the way through.

Here is a GEM of an album with all the psychedelic charm that makes 1969 such a golden year for music. If

bluesy/dreamy masterworks.
