Against Me! White Crosses4.0
Like most of you, this album caught me completely off guard on my first listen. This was not an Against Me! that I was used to at all. I never got into the new sound that began to emerge on New Wave, and was disappointed by the end of White Crosses the first time around. My problem was that I still believed that I was listening to the same band that created the simple yet catchy folk-punk on Reinventing Axl Rose, and the truth is that Against Me! have moved on. That became apparent on New Wave to the dismay of many fans and plain obvious on this record. I was not ready to dismiss White Crosses as garbage and by the end of my second listen, I grew to enjoy it slightly more. Since then, I have played this album atleast 20 times through, listening to it whenever I get the chance: on the bus to/from school, on the computer, in my room, whatever...my point is that White Crosses is far from perfect and I still could make several complaints about various aspects of the record but give it a chance and you will find yourself unable to avoid coming back.

Coheed and Cambria Year of the Black Rainbow4.0
I'm giving this a 4 as of now because I've only listened once, but this could easily become a 4.5 real quick. Honestly, I was not a huge fan of No World For Tomorrow, and had skeptical expectations for YOTB. My expectations were quickly exceeded after I heard "The Broken", when I knew this album was going to flat-out kick ass. I'll just end by saying that YOTB is a very consistent release that contains some of Coheed's most memorable work and yes, Chris Pennie makes the album. Going to listen to this again bai guys

The Fratellis Costello Music3.0
I discovered The Fratellis a few months ago when I saw their video for the song "Flathead". The song was undeniably catchy and prompted me to download their album "Costello Music". After listening to the whole record, I was quite disappointed. While there were a few songs that stuck out to me (Flathead, Henrietta, For the Girl, Chelsea Dagger sort of), many of the songs were very dull and got old fast. Overall, "Costello Music" is an album that can be rather fun and catchy at some points, but is weighed down mostly by bland pop songs.

I was very skeptical about this album before recently receiving it. I had heard mixed opinions. One being that this album was genius and the other being that it had its few moments but was boring. After taking some time to give this album my full attention and really appreciate what was poured into this, I am very close to calling this album genius. The musicianship is brilliant, Cedric's vocals are top-notch, and the songwriting is the best I've seen in a very long time. I really just get lost in this album. It's got that classic 5 out of 5 feel, but I can't call it a classic just quite yet.

Converge Jane Doe4.5
Upon joining Sputnikmusic, I noticed almost immediately that this album was held in very high regards. Although I knew that Converge was definitely not the type of band I typically listen to I decided to give them a chance. Now, my thoughts when I first heard this album, you ask? Amazing?; Emotional?; Original? Well, the answer is none of those. I immediately dismissed Jane Doe as nothing more than a noisy mess. Even after repeated attempts to get into this, I just couldn't do it. However, that was then, this is now. About a week ago, I was browsing All Music Guide for some new music, when once again, I came upon Converge. I read the review to Jane Doe and somehow forgot my aforementioned feelings of "hatred" towards this. But when I gave this album my undivided attention, my feelings seemed to change. I recognized that yes, this is emotional, energetic, agressive, angry, original, and overall..amazing. Jane Doe is one of those albums that you need to set apart some time to listen to as a whole to get a feel for it, but those 40 minutes or so will be unforgettable.

Neil Young Sleeps with Angels4.0
Today, when I was browsing the used section of FYE with my 6 dollars, I didn't expect to find anything affordable for me at the time. I looked through nearly the whole section when I got to "Y" and found Neil Young's "Sleeps With Angels" for $4.99. I knew nothing about the album, but being big fan of Neil, figured it couldn't hurt since it was only 5 dollars. When I got home and put this in my CD player, I was thrown off by how melancholy this album is. At first, I almost regretted buying it, but I continued to play this in its entirety and by the end I was in near awe. Neil's lyrics coupled with his piano playing create a much darker feel than most of his work, one that by far exceeded my expectations of this album. "Sleeps With Angels" is one of Neil Young's most overlooked releases, and continues to show us why so many people have fallen in love with his music.

This album may be short (running about 22 minutes), but it is truly a punk and hard rock classic. It's very murky, but still hardcore and there is not one bad track on here. Some real standout songs are Die, Die My Darling, Green Hell, Mommy, Can I Go Out & Kill Tonight, and Demonomania. The impact this CD has had on other bands may even be greater than the album itself. Slayer and many other thrash metal bands like Metallica would have been inconceivable without this short but sweet masterpiece.

While it is hard to say that I don't like a Beatles album, this comes pretty close. Beatles For Sale was a rushed-out release to capitolize on the Beatles' staggering popularity of the time. However, this album does tend to impress me at some points. The catchiness of Eight Days A Week, I'll Follow the Sun, Words of Love, and the screaming Rock and Roll Music saves Beatles For Sale from disaster.
