Audible Mainframe Framework4.5
Audible Mainframe were one of the first hip hop bands that I listened to after I discovered the Roots. The song Digital Cafe has such a profound effect on me. If you like intelligent hip hop that you can groove to for an hour this is an album that will not disappoint you. Contact me if you're having trouble finding it and I can hook you up.

Elliott Brood Ambassador4.5
When Johnny Cash died in 2003 it was a time of sadness for anyone who was connected to country music. However with his passing, the reins of country music were handed down to the new musicians and a new era of country music is starting to flourish. This new generation of musicians have found that blending country's twang music with the hopelessness of Cash is quite a lucrative success which brings me to Elliott BROOD.

The trio from Toronto, Canada bill themselves as "death country", taking with them country's catchy combination of banjo, acoustic, and percussion and adding whispy, gravely vocals and songs about death and despair. The group open up Ambassador with a rather lengthy song "Twill" clocking in a 6:30. The use of this song as an opening track is something that bewilders me, because it has much more of an indie/ acoustic feel to it, something I would expect The Shins to write if they all got dumped by their girlfriends and evicted from their apartments on the same day. There isn't much in the way of "country" in the song, now that doesn't mean it's a bad song, just feels a little out of place and doesn't quite give the greatest first impression for life time fans of country music.. Luckily the rest of the album contains banjo pluckin' and guitar strummin' to pacify even the most pretentious country fan.

While more accessible than 2007's Head Home, this majestic collection of gypsy punk, country, Americana is not without it's faults. The vocals can be a bit hard to listen to (especially Legs to Sin), however it is an album that everyone must hear atleast once in their life. If you like this direction that alternative country is going in, then this is an album that you will love.

The Blend are exactly what their band name says, they're a blend of jazz, hip hop, hard rock, and funk. Their songs are catchy, intelligently written, and accessible to anyone. This is an album everyone who likes The Roots or any Hip Hop Band should listen to.
