This is just flat out brutal. Arsis makes one of my favorite albums ever with A Diamond for Disease. The title track is essentially 13 minutes of non stop hardcore and amazing soloing. Not only is it one of the best melodic death metal tracks I have heard, but it is one of the best metal track period. James Malone gives a harsh vocal style that I actually enjoy throughout this whole EP. The other two tracks, while not being as amazing as A Diamond for Disease are extremely respectible in their own ways. The Alice Cooper cover Roses in White Lace has grown on me a lot and is another superb track. The Promise of Never ends this EP on a brutal note. Containing passages of A Diamond For Disease, this track ends this monumental disc.

This album isn't as good as I wanted it to be. I was pumped up for this after hearing the epicness of City of Evil. Critical Acclaim is a below average song, only good part is The Rev. Brompton Cocktail is a kick a$$ song though, so is Gunslinger and Dear God. In Fact, those are the only good songs on here. I will say that Afterlife and Lost have good solos though. But this is easily a disappointment from Avenged Sevenfold.
Avenged Sevenfold Nightmare3.0
Avenged Sevenfold Waking the Fallen3.5
This is my second favorite Avenged Sevenfold release. Unlike City of Evil, who's songlisting was almost flawless, this has some flaws. There are only about a half dozen songs on here that I like, but they are really good in the process. Second Heartbeat is my favorite song, and the solo at the end stacks up as one of my favorite solos ever. Unholy Confessions and Chapter 4 are great as well. The finale of this disk, And All Things Will End, is a spectacular 7 minutes, but the solo near the end is very strange.rOverall though, a great album.

I picked this up blindly a couple of months ago because of all the hooplaa surrounding it. So, I went to my local Wal-Mart and found it for 10 bucks. Now listening to this quite a few times since then, I can say that this is extremely overrated, but it is very good. When I listen to this now, I skip almost all of the tracks. The two I listen to though: Ants of the Sky and White Walls are 25 minutes of me drooling at the awesomeness of these songs. The slidining guitars, the slow passages and good god that epic solo at the end of White Walls makes this whole record worthwhile.

This is easily Breaking Benjamin's best album. This is a slice of addicting, catchy, and overall good hard rock. Natural Life is my favorite song on here and one of my fav. Breaking Benjamin songs ever. The single Polyamorous is also very solid too. Actually, there isn't a single bad song on here, but it just doesn't give off that "it" factor that an album with a rating of 5 gives off. If you're looking for a good hard rock album, pick this one up.

This is such a disappointing album. I was expecting much more from CoB because I actually enjoyed AYDY?. Hellhounds On My Trail, Tie My Rope, Blooddrunk, and One Day You Will Cry are the only songs worth listening to on here. Everything else is basically rehashed from earlier albums and pretty much suck. Luckily, those 4 songs are good enough to make this a 2.5 instead of being lower.
Children of Bodom Relentless Reckless Forever2.5
Children of Bodom Are You Dead Yet?3.5
This is definitely not COB's finest work, but it's a pretty solid release. It seems like they decided to get rid of the Melo-Power Metal roots on this one a bit, but that doesn't mean the songs still aren't a headbanging fest. Opener Living Dead Beat is a monster of an opener. If You Want Peace Prepare for War is the best song on here, and Trashed Lost and Strungout is another solid effort. This just doesn't compare to earlier releases like Hatebreeder or Follow the Reaper.

Like most hard rock/nu metal bands, the first half of albums are usually the best part of the record; this is no different. Starting with Ten Thousand Fists, the first 6 songs are hard rock excellency. Guarded and Stricken are my two favorite songs and I'm Alive is a close third. The rest of the album though, isn't really good. Overburdened is the only highlight from this part.

What's better than writing the same song 7 times then doing a ballad? Nothing really. These guys flare their guitars at mach 5 speeds. ZP is an excellent vocalist in the power metal genre. This has all the ingredients to be a good album. What is the problem? The songwriting. Same old same old with slaying dragons, being free before the thunderstorm, and climbing the highest mountain with your 5 foot sword. Every song is solid on here, but the same sounding songs stop this from being a remarkable release.

DragonForce The Power Within4.0
New singer brings shorter songs, more variety of riffs, lack of Mach 5 guitar solos for 70 minutes, and a return to the band's roots combining the best of Valley of the Damned and Sonic Firestorm. This is easily the best power metal album in the past two years and that is something I did not think I would say about the band at this point in time.

Every so often we are blessed with the presence of a truly bad artists: Soulja Boy, Doomthrone, and Limp Bizkit. Gunther would seem the same way based off of the cover alone. Well he is pretty bad, but he's so bad that it's good in a way too. Every song on here is about sex, but with a spice of europop thrown into the equation. Great titles like Touch Me and Ding Ding Dong make up the better of the songs on here. Oh forget it. Here are some lyrics to judge for yourselves while I think of a way to review this whole album.
"touch me, touch me now...
touch me, touch me now...
hot and cold emotion, confusing my brain,
I could not decide between pleasure and pain,
like a tramp in the night, I was begging for you
to treat my body like you wanted to"

Kalmah's 12 Gauge has moments of absolute brilliance, but is sometimes hampered by generic and boring riffs. Luckily, we are treated to some of the catchiest riffs in quite some time (opening of One of Fail,) and the solos are all ace, especially Godeye. The album ends on a slow and haunting note in Sacramentum and it proves to be the most solid track on the entire album. For the Revolution was a good album with some great tracks, but 12 Gauge surpasses it in every possible way.

Maybe it's the Daniel Heiman fanboy in me that is overshadowing my judgement on this record. There should be nothing extraordinary in a rock album like this, but something just works. Heiman doesn't go out of this world in the vocal department but songs like Forgotten Generation and We Cant Go On humble and remind me on why this man is my favorite singer ever.

All it took was 20 years for Metallica to get back to what they were. Death Magnetic gives us a glimpse back to the 80s with the return of Kirk's solos, and some inspiring music. Most songs on here are catchy and good, although Cyanide and The Unforgiven III just suck. The song that stands out is All Nightmare Long. I will go as far to say this is the best song Metallica has done since the Ride the Lightning days. It is that good. The transition of the Meshuggah like chainsaw guitars, to the traditional Maiden gallops, is just stunning. Add to the fact that Metallica executes their catchiest chorus ever, and you get a pretty awesome song. Thanks for not sucking this time Metallica.

Mutyumu Il y a4.5
2008 has been a great year for music. I will dwell deeper into that category in a few days, but I have one thing to talk about: the album of the year. It took almost the full year for me to find the best album, and it comes to us from the Land of the Rising Sun. Don't even ask me about the cover or the lyrics. I have no clue what they mean. All that I know is that these guys incorporate an extraordinary blend of opera, post-rock, metal, and
a pinch of hardcore.Mutyumu has reached the pinnacle of musical perfection; don't even get me started on the pianist. Vocalist Hatis Noit shines as well. Her operatic styling fits perfectly for the
orchestrations that are being presented. The best song of the year (and one that is quickly climbing my best of all time list) Prayeris 11 minutes of splendid musicianship and vocal prowess. At around the 6 minute mark, we are treated with an explosion of piano and orchestral carnage. The best part is that this last the remaining four minutes of the song. Very post-rock climax like in delivery. Overall, this is a gem of 2008, and it comes to me from a very unlikly place. Everything is thrown in your face at once, so this may seem like too much for some, but thank you Mutyumu for showing me that, at your best, you can hang with the best
orchestral band in the world (imo) in Nightwish.

Coil is an amazing acoustic piece featuring a guest women vocalist. Burden is another beautiful piece as well. Hessian Peel though gets the reward for best song on here and song of the year so far. Catchy progressive slow riffs turned into heavy prog-death riffs give me goosebumps everytime I hear it. Mikael's harsh vocals are superb on this track and I see why everyone is abuzz about them. Mikael is quickly joining Dan Swano as my favorite death metal vocalist.

System of a Down System of a Down3.0
System of a Down Mezmerize3.0
This is my least favorite System of a Down album. First three songs are great, but then it's not that great until track 8, Question. The last three songs are good, especially Lost in Hollywood (one of my fav. SOAD tracks ever) I don't know what it was with this album, but I felt that System could've made it a whole lot better. The humorous songs always throw away the emotions left with the serious ones.
System of a Down Lonely Day3.0
System of a Down Hypnotize3.5
Not System's best, but definitely an improvement over Mesmerize. Holy Mountains and Soldier Side are two of my favorite System songs ever, their meanings are so genuine. The only problem is with the song positioning. We get a funny song in Viscinity of Obscenity right after Holy Mountains, not a good combo. Dreaming and U-Fig are very solid as well.
System of a Down Steal This Album!4.0
System of a Down Toxicity4.5
This is a marvelous album. System is one of the bands that evolved my taste in music, and Toxicity is easily my favorite album from them. From the Opener The Prison Song, to the ending of Aerials, this packs a pretty unique, but spectacular punch. Massive hits like Chop Suey and Toxicity are done extremely well, while ATWA, and Science being sleepers for me on here. My favorite song on here (and one of my two fav. SOAD songs ever) is definitely Aerials. This is truly haunting, but so damn good.

Trivium The Crusade2.5
I actually found this to be a good album when I first heard it back in 2006. Soon after, I joined this site and started to listen to great music. Anthem (We are the Fire), Entrance of the Conflagration, The Crusade, and yes This World Can't Tear Us Apart are the only songs I can stand to listen off of this anymore. The Crusade is the best song on here though. Maybe that is because Matt isn't singing.

Trivium Shogun4.0
With the release of the poor album Ascendancy in 2005, followed by the mediocre The Crusade in 2006, I didn't have much hope for Trivium. Yeah, they were decent musicians, but something just didn't stick out. Maybe it was Matt Heafy's bland James Hetfieldesque vocals on The Crusade, or maybe it was just the uninspired feel I got from the band. Whatever it was, Trivium was just a mediocre band. Boy oh Boy has this changed with Shogun. Releasing an album where over half of the songs don't suck and are actually enjoyable is definitely a step-up. The guitar harmonies and the riffs are catchy and pretty sweet. Vocally this is a step up too, though the screams are a bit funny. The best part about this album though is easily the self titled track. A contender for song of the year, this has everything Trivium has in their arsenal. It's as brutal as mainstream metal is going to get, but it never loses its melody or catchy factor. Everything about this near 12 minute song is unbelievable. This album is definitely a surprise for 2008

Best post rock album ever? It's pretty damn close with Mono's Hymn to the Immortal Wind. Four songs may seem too short, but with the shortest one being 12 minutes, we get a hell of a ride throughout. The 7:26 climax of Illuminate My Heart My Darling is probably the greatest thing ever and if you don't like it, well you pretty much suck. In fact, if you don't even like this album, well you're an Huge Idiot
