Arctic Monkeys Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not4.0
Released in early 2006, Arctic Monkeys' Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not has fallen victim to excessive hype, which has probably turned off more than a few listeners. Fortunately enough, their music is quality enough to deserve it. Dancy drum beats, pounding basslines, and upbeat, pulsing guitar parts occupy the entirety of this album, without becoming tedious. Lyrically, Arctic Monkeys have become somewhat of their age group's heroes, with a certain cynical wit to everything Alex Turner writes, whether it be self loathing, love, or pop culture. Combining groove, dance, and rock with sheer wit has become Britain's next big thing. Fortunately enough, the product is of high quality.

I got it on Netflix about a month and a half ago, because Blood is my favorite chili album. Suffice to say, I loved the documentary. The band members offer some very insightful perspectives of their surroundings and their music. You see them all record the B-Sides, including Sikamikanico, and record, track by track the album, as well as each member explaining their roles, and the stories behind some of the songs. Very good documentary, and shot in a very good, casual style.

Social Distortion Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll4.5
Social Distortion (by that i mean Mike Ness) have a thing for incorporating poeticism into punk rock. On Sex, Love N Rock n Roll, Social Distortion do not disregard that statement, whatsoever. The album is a juxtaposition of heartfelt love songs, combined with a heavy, snarling punk attitude that hooked me onto the band. Ness' lyrics range from the self loathing of never acting on love felt for someone (Footprints on My Ceiling), to disregarding opinion and loving someone who probably doesn't love you back (Angel's Wings) to the badboy love stage that most adolescent girls experience (Faithless/ Don't Take Me For Granted). Sex, Love N Rock n Roll shows that Ness can be a badass and poetic simultaneously, all in the context of a catchy melody and danceable rhythm.
