ABBA Voyage3.5
This is surprisingly good for a band which just had half a lifetime of a break. Of course it does not live up to the bands highlights, but parts of the album come quite close.
ABBA Super Trouper4.0
Not only one of ABBA's most consistent records, but also one with the most highlights. Even lesser known tracks like 'Me and I' slap to this day.
Ada Lea one hand on the steering wheel the other sewing a4.0
What can I say, fantastic singer songwriter record. We have here well performed and catchy tunes,
a nicely flowing tracklist, and a whole lot of emotion.
Adrianne Lenker Abysskiss3.5
Adrianne Lenker Songs4.0
Georgous Folk album. The performances and songwriting here are organic, raw and heartwarming, some of Lenkers best to date.
Alex Cameron Forced Witness4.5
Incredible album! Every song here is a total banger with not only excellent songwriting, but also catchy and funny lyrics. Expecially the first 4 tracks really steal the show for me.
Alex Cameron Miami Memory4.0
Great album front to back, with no single dissapointment in the tracklist. Though I think that it does not quite live up to its predecessor, which had even stronger hooks and funnier lyrics.
Alvvays Alvvays4.0
Beautiful Dream Pop record. It has super rememberable hooks and great aesthetics. Basically, it checks all the boxes for a fun listen even after many spins.
Amen Dunes Freedom3.5
Great album. I can not actually say anything bad about it, it's super consistent and just delivers. Very interesting I find the lack of typical songstructures on this record, the songs do not follow any specific pattern, but rather just flow. You would think that this makes them less memorable, but they are still very catchy, and part of it is due to catchy lyrics.
Angel Olsen All Mirrors4.0
I like it! Interesting change of pace for Angel, since some tracks here remind me of early gothic
like from Dead Can Dance, which is certainly a surprise. Songwriting-wise the album can't quite
keep up with its predecessor, but that it makes up with just heavenly string arrangements. Also
the production is flawless! Most tracks are great, but especially I enjoy the closer "Chance".
Angel Olsen My Woman4.5
Angel Olsen Big Time3.5
It's a little bit of a mixed bag for me, but that closer wins me over every time.
Angels and Airwaves We Don't Need to Whisper2.5
Angels and Airwaves Love - Part II3.5
Somehow I seem to be one of the few that find the first 3 cuts weaker than the rest of the album. These first songs seem overblown to me, while the rest is actually quite consistent. I like the transitions between the songs and small hidden details like the accord pattern of "All The Small Things" used in "My Heroine". In general a good album!
Angels and Airwaves I-Empire3.0
I used to love this when I was 15 years old! Now I don't, but it still has some good tunes.
Angels and Airwaves ...Of Nightmares3.0
Angels and Airwaves Love4.0
Ten years after I obsessed over this project as a teenager, I think it still holds up as a great
and the bands best project. It has a very good flow, and Tom's singing sounds much better than
usual.
Angels and Airwaves Chasing Shadows3.5
Really catchy and fresh sounding EP with crisp production. I also like the genre-direction in rgenerall.
Angels and Airwaves The Dream Walker2.5
Although I was a heavy Angels and Airwaves fan some time ago, this album never appealed to me like their previous stuff. Expecially now I don't get much enjoyment out of this album because it's extremly overproduced. Some songs I still like, like Tunnels or the Wolfpack.
Angels and Airwaves Stomping The Phantom Brake Pedal2.5
The opener track "Diary" is awesome. I have problems with the second part of this Ep though, namely I don't care about the remixes at all. Without "LOVE Two Re-Imagined EP" my rating would have been alot more positive.
Angels and Airwaves The Dream Walker Demos3.0
If you are interested in The Dream Walker, these demos will give you an insight on how some tracks came to be and what else could have been on the album. Some of these demos I like even more than the original songs, like for example both Wolfpack demos.
Angels and Airwaves We Don't Need to Whisper Acoustic EP2.0
For an acoustic, this sound terribly unorganic to me. I think that an acoustic performance should be enough stripped back to reveal the core and emotion of a song. The instrumentals on this EP do not satidfy this at all, and neither do the vocals. These just do not sound raw enough to convey any emotion.
Angels and Airwaves Lifeforms1.5
Ten years ago this was my favourite band. Still I wasn't expecting much of this release, as those times are long over, but yet it managed to dissapoint. The mix sounds consistently awful, basically every chorus is a complete mess sonically. The first 50 seconds of the record would actually fit on Corey Feldman's Angelic 2 the Core. Tom's vocals also aren't great, and so is the songwriting on most tracks. For me, one of the wort albums of the year.
Arcade Fire Funeral4.0
Arcade Fire Everything Now3.0
It's true that this album is a dissapointment compared to the others, but I think there are actually some good songs on here and definetly more enjoyable than bad ones. For examble I definetly like the title track and four last songs of the album. It's nice to see them do the thing again, like on suburbs, where they dedicate the last song to the first/title track so the album gets round up a bit.
Arcade Fire Reflektor4.5
This album grew on me heavily. Both Parts of the album have great songs and it's own nice theme, rwhile still somehow being connected with each other. CD 1 is about love in the "reflective age" rwhich probably refers to the modern information age. A key motiv is that digitalism connects us rbut also seperates on another level. There is really alot in this album that gives you to think rand leaves room for interpretation. Cd 2 is more focused and about the story of Orpheus and rEuredice, and in my opinion Arcade Fire portraits it in a really heard-wrenching way. My favourite rsongs of the album lie on this half, for example 'It's Never Over' or 'Afterlife'. I still rremember really feeling these songs expecially when I was in love. All in all a very consistent ralbum with a little better second half and in my opinion their best work to date.
Arcade Fire The Suburbs3.5
A very enjoyable album with a nice nostalgic feel to it. I like the theme of growing up and the lyrics, as with most work of Arcade Fire. What for example really touches me is the line "So can you understand, why I want a daughter while I'm still young...", and I don't even know why but it resonates. Sometimes the album might feel a little long but if it doesn't it's great.
Arcade Fire Neon Bible4.5
Amazing album. I have nothing negative to say about it. It's super consistent, I love every song. Great lyrics, songwriting and energy. Just front to back a very enjoyable listen.
Arctic Monkeys AM3.5
Atoms for Peace Amok3.5
This album feels more like a Solo project of Thom than a colloborate effort by members of Atoms
for Peace, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. When comparing it to the Eraser, Amok focuses
more on percussion than on melody. And in the percussion the songs really shine. Despite the beats
being probably programmed, they still feel very alive and dynamic, for me especially on the song
"Unless". And the album is well enough produced that in between those many layers of percussion
elements other instruments and Thoms voice still have space to unfold. In terms of songwriting, I
think there is a tiny bit of consitency lack here, but I still enjoy most of the songs. Some of
them took me a long time to appreciate, like the amazing closer title track.
Audioslave Out of Exile3.0
Beach House Bloom5.0
Exemplary modern Dream Pop album. I not only see this as Beach House's best record, but as one of the best records of the whole decade. The sound design is flawless, everything sounds great. The songs are all amazing, also songwriting-wise. Definitely a classic for me.
Beach House Teen Dream4.5
I am not sure what to say about this album, except that it's beautiful. Everything, the songs, the performance, the lyrics are great. Especially I like the outros to the songs. I remember when I first heard Silver Soul I thought the lyrics were "Please happen again", and I really liked this, but later I was a little bit dissapointed to read it's "It's happening again".
Beach House Depression Cherry4.0
Another gorgeous album by these guys. This one feels slightly less upbeat then usual, in a good way. The only negative thing I can say is that some songs, like Wildflower or Bluebird, are missing something in the end. Other songs end in glorious instrumental passages, but these just end.
Beach House 73.5
Not their most consistent album for me, as I definitely prefer their lush dream pop over shoegaze. Still there is plenty for me here, especially in the second half of the tracklist.
Belle and Sebastian Legal Man3.0
Belle and Sebastian Lazy Line Painter Jane3.0
Belle and Sebastian 3.. 6.. 9 Seconds Of Light3.5
Belle and Sebastian Jonathan David4.0
Two of these songs are among the best of their whole catalog.
Belle and Sebastian Push Barman to Open Old Wounds4.0
Belle and Sebastian Tigermilk4.0
Fantastic debut from a fantastic band. This records already hints at Belle and Sebastian's status as one of the most important songwriters to date.
Belle and Sebastian I'm Waking Up To Us4.0
As usual in this era just quality content from Belle and Sebastian. Both, songs and performance are impressive.
Belle and Sebastian Dear Catastrophe Waitress4.5
While having not as strong of an ending compared to its beginning, for me this is still some of the bands best work to date. Just overall good tunes and performances, mostly keeping it fun.
Belle and Sebastian Dog on Wheels4.0
Big Thief U.F.O.F.3.5
Big Thief never dissapoints! This one is less heavy and more folky, I like it.
Big Thief Two Hands3.0
Decent album, but not as consistent as its predecessors. The emotion is still there, but I find the writing on here flat at times. The highlight of the record would definitely be "Not", for sure one of Big Thief's best songs.
Big Thief Capacity4.5
Heartwrenching record. This album essentially summarizes in what I love about Big Thief. The emotion, the raw performance, the weird drum patterns, it's all there. Among these songs are also some underrated gems, like "Watering", whose vocals personally hit me harder then any other, and "Great White Shark", which features a solo with an amazing energy. In my opinion, this is easily their best record.
Big Thief Masterpiece3.5
Beautiful debut album. Already on this project Big Thief come up with great songwriting and performance. Lenker really knows how to convince an emotion with her voice. The definite highlight here for me is 'Paul'.
Big Thief Demos Vol. 1 - Topanga Canyon, CA - Feb 20183.5
Bjork Homogenic4.0
A great album! What I, among other things, really like are Björks unconventional word choices. For example in All Neon Like she uses the phrase "fetus style" instead of "fetus like". I find this very amusing because "style" is a rather 'cool' word that you wouldn't associate with something uncool like a fetus.
Bjork Vespertine5.0
An absolute masterpiece! This just goes straight to the heart. The production too is amazing,
still after all this time sounds up to date. Especially I like the many intimate moments on the
album, like Bjorks whispery vocals on "Cocoon". Never before has music sounding this quiet
affected me so much. The album ends of with one of Bjorks best tracks "Unison" which combines all
the great things of the album into one song, which features an incredible hook. rI know that many
prefer the album "Homogenic", but for me this more pop inspired approach works even better, easily
her best album.
Bjork Debut3.5
Bjork Selmasongs3.5
Great songs for a great movie. Although this is the soundtrack to 'Dancer in the Dark' and
watching the movie gives the songs a bittersweet meaning, the project also works great as a stand-
alone. In particular, some of Bjoerks best work is hidden here. It is also worth to mention that
'I've seen it all' is a wonderful ballad featuring none other than Thom Yorke, although I am not
sure if his and Bjoerks voices are meant for each other.
Bjork Medulla3.5
This definitely takes some listens to get used to, but can be a rewarding experience in the end.
Bjork Post2.5
This is for sure an unpopualar opinion, but I see this as some of Bjorks weakest und least rconsistent material. Don't get me wrong, there are many gems on Post, but for each one we also get rsomething underwhelming. For example tracks like 'I Miss You' and 'Cover Me' mean nothing to me. rAdditionally the album suffers from the weird choice to have Jazz balads next to Trip Hop bangers, rwhich does not mix well in my opinion. In the end, I am also not really a fan of this industrial rsound of some of these songs. But let's not forget the highlights of the album, that would be r'Isobel' and 'Hyper-ballad' for me.
Bjork Utopia3.5
I don't actually enjoy the majoirity of the songs much on their own, but the whole album itself can be quite the experience.
Bjork Vulnicura3.0
The album starts of very strong, but falls apart in its second half for me. Still overall I enjoy it in the right mood.
blink-182 Neighborhoods3.0
Some really catchy and great singles here and there. Certainly not a bad album.
blink-182 Greatest Hits3.0
blink-182 Dogs Eating Dogs3.5
Blonde Redhead Misery is a Butterfly4.0
Super consitent and fun album. All tracks are great. The soundscape of the album feels very focused, but there is some variety coming from the constant change of vocalists. On some tracks you hear Kazu, on other the twins, whereas "Pink Love" is the only track to feature mixed vocals. All in all I cannot complain, it's probaply the bands best work.
Blonde Redhead 233.5
In my opinion this album does not live up to its predecessor, but is still great. The especially 'Dr Strangeluv' is fantastic. Generally I noticed that I am enjoying Kazu's vocals also more than Amedo's, and luckily on this album most of the songs are with her singing.
Blonde Redhead 3 O'Clock3.5
Bombay Bicycle Club I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose3.5
Great indie pop/rock album! Also features some interesting electronic experimentation at times. Trackwise, I think "Lamplight", "Evening - Morning" and "Cancel on me" definetly stand out. I enjoy the majority of the tracks, but some might feel worn out after some time, like "What if".
Box Car Racer Box Car Racer3.5
Grew up on this, and actually still kinda feel it. Very nice drumming.
Brian Eno and David Byrne Everything that Happens Will Happen Today3.5
I used to be a bit on the fence with this one, since all the tracks are either hit or miss. But now the hit takes the majority for me.
Broken Social Scene You Forgot It in People4.5
Once you get used to it, most songs are total bangers. The album is pretty divers, but still manages to keep itself together somehow. What I do not understand is the popularity of 'Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl', why does it have these numbers?
Buck Meek Two Saviors3.5
While not blowing me out if my socks, Buck Meek does well what he intends to. Always a fun listen.
Camera Obscura Let's Get Out of This Country4.0
Super cute and catchy, it just works for me. Some songs impress less, but still in general a great record.
Car Seat Headrest Teens of Denial4.0
Not as consistent as Twin Fantasy (Face to Face), but often even more relatable. Will's ability to write both catchy hooks and lyrics is just insane. One of my favourite lines is "Don't worry, I am worrying for two".
Car Seat Headrest Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)4.5
Car Seat Headrest Making a Door Less Open2.0
I appreciate the risk taken by the change of sound, but Will missed it on this one for me.
Carly Rae Jepsen The Loneliest Time3.5
Great album, starts very strong but dips a bit near the middle. The ending however, with its more ballad type songs, I might even like more than the beginning.
Caroline Polachek Pang3.0
Definitely some bangers on here, but not all are for me. Still a decent listen.
CCFX CCFX4.5
This is an fantastic EP. Every song is great and they all fit together very well. What more could
you want from an EP?
Chastity Belt No Regrets2.5
The album starts off pretty strong, but whenever I arrive at its end I am left feeling underwhelmed.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah New Fragility4.0
Alec's shaky voice-cracking vocal style in my opinion really fits to these slower and emotional songs, much more than they do on the bands bedut. Furthermore I am impressed by the songwriting on most of the tracks on every single listen.
Clive Tanaka y Su Orquesta Pre-Sunrise Authority3.0
The album starts off with the stronger half, especially I like 'Popular Lips'. However, track 4,
as well as the last three are significantly weaker than the rest for me and pull the album down.
Without these and a slightly shorter version of first track this would have made a great EP.
Cocteau Twins Heaven or Las Vegas4.5
Absolute classic album. Super consistent, every song is a Dream Pop banger. I really can't say
anything bad about this album.
What I find very funny about this project are the lyrics. Listening to these lyrics feels to me
like what non english speakers hear when they hear english. There are some familiar words everyone
knows, like "Las Vegas", but you barely understand a sentence. It's also hilarious that online
there are several websites with different lyrics for these songs, and they make no sense at all.
Coldplay Mylo Xyloto2.5
Most songs on this album dissapoint, but still there are some gems on here. "Hurts Like Heaven" is an amazing pop song, another ones I like are "U.F.O." and the closer "Up with the birds".
Coldplay A Head Full of Dreams2.5
Coldplay X&Y3.0
There are so many popular singles on this album, most people probably know 75% of it already. I have mixed feeling about this project. Sometimes it's enjoyable and sometimes not. What I can say for sure is that the album is a bit too long and may feel like a compilation of songs, thus not coherent.
Coldplay Parachutes3.5
Great debut album. Some songs are weaker than others in my opinion, but it's still pretty consistent. Especially I like the short title track and Sparks. I really like how the lyrics in Sparks seem to be encouraging at first, but then, in a subliminal way, turn to the opposite, creating a sad theme.
Coldplay Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends4.0
This is easily my favourite Coldplay album. Many great tracks on here, in fact it's very consistent. I like the asian motives that sometimes come up in the album, as well the idea of hidden tracks. These hidden tracks are underappreciated in my opinion, they all are among the best songs on here. What especially surprised me is the track "Chinese Sleep Chant" which is hidden in "Yes", and is actually very shoegazy. I would have never expected Coldplay diving into this territory. Also underrated here is the album closer, probaply my favourite of the collection.
Coldplay A Rush of Blood to the Head3.5
The first half of this album I find, up to some decent songs, rather unconsistent. However, the second half is great, featuring widely overlooked gems like "Green Eyes" or ""Warning Sign".
Coldplay Live 20123.0
Not the best audio recording and setlist, especially because some weaker cuts of Mylo Xyloto made it in, but I found myself singing along quite often. So the energy of the performance is definitely there.
De Lux Generation3.0
I am kinda torn on this group and project. For sure many songs on here are great, generally very catchy and fun. What is bothering me is that the style is basically a Talking Heads rip-off, the singer even sounds almost exactly like David Byrne. Another thing that I do not care much about are the lyrics. The most frequent topic seems to be the claim that the singer (or protargonist of the songs) never tried weed. Using track 06 as a pun I could say "No One really cares" about that.
Dean Blunt Black Metal2.0
There is a handful of good short tracks on this album, but as an entire listening experience I do not recomment this. It feels more liek a collection of demos than a cohesive project. Especially off putting are the two long tracks in the middle of the album.
Deer Park Ranger Moderation2.5
Deerhunter Halcyon Digest4.0
Deerhunter Microcastle4.5
In my opinion this is Deerhunter at their best. Microcastle is super consitent, not one single track on here I don't enjoy. Not only are many of these songs catchy, they also come with great sonic experimentation.
Deerhunter Weird Era Cont.3.5
This album is sounds very weird, both sonically and songwriting-wise. But this is not necessarily a bad thing. In my opinion it is a nice addition to Microcastle, it does not feel out of place but is also stylistically different enough for both albums not to sound repetitive.
Deerhunter Why Hasn't Everything Already Disappeared?2.0
When this album came out I was very dissapointed. There is only 2 to 3 decent songs on here, and one of them is 'What Happens to People?'
Destroyer Kaputt5.0
Flawless album. There are really no tracks on here which I find lacking in any way. Incredibly catchy songwriting and good execution, with a versatile sound pallet. Important to mention is also that despite instantaneously likeable themes, this album just doesn't grow old with time.
Destroyer Destroyer's Rubies3.5
Very fun album, definitely makes me go Lalala, which is not usual for me. Favourite track:
Watercolours into the Ocean
Destroyer LABYRINTHITIS3.0
I'm a bit torn on this one. There are some great tracks here which I may enjoy more or less depending on my mood, but the whole project itself I find somewhat inconsistent.
Dick Diver Calendar Days3.0
Distractor Devotion3.5
Super fun listen. This project is actually full of memorable moments, either due to catchy hooks, hilarious lyrics, or both at the same time.rKnowing the story of the singer adds a bittersweet feeling to the listening experience.
Drug Store Romeos The world within our bedrooms2.5
On first listen this debut sounds great, and it is definitely very well produced. However most tracks don't impress anymore after repeated listens, and are lacking songwriting-wise. Apart from that the record would benefit from a shorter runtime.
Elbow Little Fictions3.5
Enrique Iglesias Insomniac1.5
This is the first album I bought on CD. Now it just feels blend, although some songs I actually like a little.
EOB Earth1.5
As much as I enjoy the work of Radiohead, this debut album by Ed doesn't speak to me at all. I my opinion there is not one exciting song on here. This is due to weak songwriting and uninteresting instrumentation. Take "Deep days" as an example: the hook on this song is just forgetable and feels even more boring due to the long runtime. My favourite track on here would probaply be "Olympik", which I find almost decent.
Feu! Chatterton Palais d'Argile4.0
Feu! Chatterton L’Oiseleur3.5
Fishmans Long Season4.5
With this album, Fishmans have created something truly incomparable and timeless.
Fishmans 98.12.28 Otokotachi no Wakare4.0
Fleetwood Mac Rumours3.5
Foxboro Hot Tubs Stop Drop and Roll!!!3.0
Francis of Delirium Wading3.5
Funeral Suits Lily of the Valley4.0
Amazing Indie Pop Album! Very consistent, indeed there is not one song on this record that I don't adore.
Gilla Band Most Normal2.0
On first listen this album sounds daring and mad, but by returning to it many times I realized that there is not much of value for me beyond its surface of noise. Also the lead vocals sound like James Murphy to me to the point that I can't unhear it.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada2.5
Not feeling this one so much to be honest. I just grew tired of it fairly quickly.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven5.0
Godspeed You! Black Emperor Yanqui U.X.O.3.5
There are gorgeous moments on this LP, but for me they are spaced too far apart, with the sections in between not keeping enough tension. I must also say that the album does not hit me anymore like it did first conscious listen. The definite highlight on here are the last minutes of 'motherfucker=redeemer', absolutely incredible.
Gorillaz Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez3.5
Green Day American Idiot3.5
This was the first ever album I fell in love with when I was about 10 years old. Now I don't enjoy it that much anymore, but certainly it's not a bad album. The storytelling across this project is great and adds an extra layer of enjoyment when listening to American Idiot.
Green Day International Superhits3.0
Green Day iTRE!3.0
Actually a somewhat decent collection of catchy songs. Stylisticly album is kinda versatile, in a good way.
Green Day iDOS!2.0
All in all a pretty dissapointing album. Some songs I like, but most are just too weak.
Green Day 21st Century Breakdown3.0
This was definitely one of my favourite things in my youth, and now I kinda get the bad
reputation. This album is not very consistent and way too long. But some part of me still enjoys
many songs on here and even still knows the lyrics. Some highlights for me are now 'Last Night on
Earth' and 'Restless Heart Syndrome'.
Green Day ¡UNO!2.5
Group Listening Clarinet & Piano: Selected Works Vol. 13.0
HAIM Women In Music, Pt. III4.0
Super fun and consistent, basically every track on here delivers.
Haley Heynderickx I Need to Start a Garden4.0
Just quality cute songwriting with high replay value. There are times when this does not hit, but as to writing this it did.
Happyness Floatr3.0
The album features good writing and arrangements, but what is bothering me are the vocals. The
singing sounds different than on previous projects, somehow more forced. Still, not a bad listen.
Happyness Weird Little Birthday3.5
Hideout Rookie4.0
Highly overlooked album. Features super catchy songwriting and thus makes a fun listening experience.
I/O (US) Saudade2.0
This is the first Post Rock album that I tried out. I am not sure if I have a problem with Post
Rock in generall or not, if I do, this rating would not be justified. At the first few listens I
really enjoyed this record, it seemed really simple yet epic. But at some point my opinion about
the album started to worsen. The catchy motives began to become more boring with every listen. Now
I find this album really plane and thin. Most songs seem to be way too long for what they offer.
Maybe I am too used to having vocals, but then I wouldn't have enjoyed the album in the first
place, right?
Favourite songs on the album: Input/Output, Weather Fields
I/O (US) Anyone, Anywhere1.5
At this point every modern Post Rock album just sounds the same. There is nothing outstanding here, but atleast it's not actively annoying.
Interpol El Pintor3.0
Interpol Our Love to Admire3.0
There are excellent tracks on here, but sadly not in a large quantity. This makes the album rather inconsistent. Highlights for me are definetly "No I in Threesome" and the ending of "Pace is the Trick".
Interpol Interpol2.5
This album has some moments of creativity, but mostly does not satisfy. You still gotta give Interpol credit for trying to change up their sound, though, and on some tracks here it works well, like for example on Summer Well. What also stands out in many tracks here are the experimental drumming rhythms. Still, the album is one of their weakest.
Interpol Turn on the Bright Lights5.0
Absolutely incredible album, probaply my favourite debut ever. Every single track on here is amazing. One of the things I like about this is record is how balanced instruments and vocals are. Paul's voice is rather monotone, so it allows the guitar, bass and drums to take the spotlight. But despite the vocals sounding monotone, they still convey emotions, for example through repetitions of certain lines. These repetitions also make the lyrics really catchy at times. What else shines here are the basslines. Since the guitars mostly occupy the higher frequency spectrum, you can often hear the bass very clearly.
Interpol Antics4.0
Great follow up to a classic album! This one feels stylistically broader, which shows that the band wanted to evolve. What stands out to me here are the outros to some of the tracks, for example the "We're sailing to norway" line on "Take You on a Cruise", or the instrumental outro to "Not Even Jail". This particular moment is also a reminder that Interpol's bass work is still superb. All in all it's a great listen front to back.
Interpol Marauder2.5
Definitely some decent songs on here, but the horrible production quality makes this album a rather unpleasent listen. I don't care if it's "Straight To Tape" when the vocals and drums sound that muddy.
Jai Paul Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)1.0
This music does nothing for me. People say it's sounds amazing despite only being demos, but in my ears, this just sounds like a mess. Either there is an issue with the volume changing frequently throughout the songs, or it's a weird asthetic choice. The songwriting for me also does not seem great, so I can't even imagine to like these tracks with different production.
Japanese Breakfast Soft Sounds From Another Planet3.0
Some great tracks here and there but for me the singing performance on this album definitely falls short.
Jenny Hval The Practice of Love4.0
This album is Jenny Hval doing what she does best, creating those ethereal soundscapes and hypnotic beats. Great in both vision and execution.
Jenny Hval Blood Bitch3.5
Jessie Ware What's Your Pleasure?4.0
Jim Sullivan U.F.O.3.5
Very fun little album, with great songwriting and performance. The only thing that I don't like is the way Sullivan ends his songs, many of them just fade out after a while.
Joanna Newsom Ys4.5
Joanna Newsom Have One on Me3.5
Josin In the Blank Space3.5
Great debut. Some people see the very obvious Thom Yorke influence as a negative aspect of this album, but I don't mind, the emotion is still there. Some tracks may seem a bit long winded, but in general this record is a nice listening experience.
Julee Cruise Floating into the Night3.5
Coming back to this album feels great, but I remember that it didn't keep impressing as much on repeated listens. Part of this lack of relistenability is definitely Lynch's very limited lyrical content. After some time the words just seem to repeat, and everything sounds like 'floating/falling alone in the darkness/night', which can already be seen from the songtitles. Still the album is pretty consistent and can hit a sweet spot of nostalgia.
Julia Holter Have You In My Wilderness4.5
Absolutely gorgeous album. Holter's fearless blend of classical and electronic instruments creates these beautiful soundscapes which just sound phenomenal. Meanwhile her voice adds an emotional layer to the music, that makes it easier to connect with. Especially outstanding is her performance on 'Betsy On The Roof'.
Kate Bush Hounds of Love3.5
Great Pop album. I like the catchier first half of the record very much, while I find the more experimental second half rather unconsistent. Still I appreciate the ongoing theme of this half, with 'Under Ice' introducing us to the imagery a person waiting to be rescued from the cold water. Sadly musically this story is portrayed all over the place, but some songs are still highlights, like for example my favourite song here, the album closer.
Kate Bush The Kick Inside3.5
Katy J Pearson Return3.5
It's not the the most groundbreaking album and definitely lacks a bit of egde, but I find it still pretty enjoyable. Easy to hum along to.
Kero Kero Bonito Civilisation I4.0
Kero Kero Bonito TOTEP4.0
Kero Kero Bonito Time 'n' Place3.5
Impressive how Kero Kero Bonito follows up their debut album with a project that is of similar quality, but with a big change in sound. Despite stepping into new sonic territory, they still manage to keep some of the old aesthetics in the songs, which you can notice by the catchiness of the songwriting. My favourite tracks would probably be 'Time Today' and 'Only Acting', which actually blends in much nicer in the tracklist of the EP 'TOTEP', where it's also featured on.
Kero Kero Bonito Bonito Generation3.5
It took some work for me to get into this bright and playful style of pop, but in the end it sure paid of! For a debut this album is great, although not every song can keep up with the highlights.
Kero Kero Bonito Civilisation II3.5
King Krule 6 Feet Beneath the Moon2.0
In the first listens this album feels exciting, but after a while it is just boring.
Krill Lucky Leaves3.5
Solid album. Has a raw, emotional energy to it, mainly because if the great vocals. The lyrics, which often seem self-pitiful, add alot to the experience. My favourite part is the dialog between the protargonist, a twig and a grass in "Purity of heart".
Kurt Vile Childish Prodigy3.0
I am kinda torn on this album. For sure the psychedelic textures make this an interesting first listen, but when it comes down to revisiting it, I think the songwriting might be lacking a bit. Atleast when I listened to this on repeat it felt more and more boring. But know when I listened to it for the first time in a long time, it feels fresh again.
L'Rain Fatigue3.0
I am not too sold on the scattered pieces of sound collage, which in my opinion rather disturbs the listening experience. Without it, we have a couple minutes of sparse quality content. For me personally the track 'Blame Me' stands out as one of the best.
Lael Neale Acquainted with Night4.0
Admirable Lofi/Bedroom Pop album. The choruses may not appear catchy on first listen, but eventually I found myself singing along every time. Another huge selling point is the poetry in the lyrics, both beautiful and accesible enough for me to relate.
Laetitia Sadier The Trip2.5
There are some decent tracks on here, but in general I find this album too unconsistent to be enjoyable front to back.
Lambchop Nixon3.0
This could be an excellent album, but some unfortunate decisions ruin it slightly for me. One of
them is including 'Petrified Florist' into the tracklist, which is by far weaker than any other
track on here. The other is the choice of vocals on some of the songs. On these, Wagner decides to
sing in a high pitch voice with which he clearly struggles with, ultimately not playing to his
strenghts. To me these vocals even sound like a parody at times. It's just unfortunate to hear
such tastefully arranged songs together with these vocals. Luckily he does not do it very often,
which still leaves a handful of well-written and well-performed cuts.
LCD Soundsystem LCD Soundsystem2.5
Sadly most tracks here don't resonate with me, even after lots of listens. There are some epic cuts here though, like for example closing track Yr City's a Sucker.
LCD Soundsystem This Is Happening3.0
Hinestly, I don't get the hype fot this album. There are some amazing tracks on here, for example opener "Dance Yrself Clean" and closer "Home" I enjoy very much, but in between i find the tracklisting rather unconsitent. Most of these songs are longer than they should be, and bring nothing new to the table after half of their runtime. In general though I still enjoy this album to some extend.
LCD Soundsystem Sound of Silver3.5
LCD Soundsystem American Dream3.0
I remember that this album got stale for me pretty quickly after release. Now that I am coming back to it, the first half sound a bit more fresh again, but only slightly. My favourite song on here would probably still be 'Tonight'.
Leonard Cohen Songs of Leonard Cohen3.0
Every song on this album is pleasant to the ear, but only a few stuck out to me as great. In total, I do not understand the classic status.
Life Without Buildings Any Other City2.5
This album sounds fun at first, but after a few listens grows stale for me. The songs seem way too long, with the vocals and instruments not offering enough variety to justify the runtime. In particular the spoken vocals can be very annoying after some listens, and the heavy use of repetition does not help with this issue at all.
Linkin Park A Thousand Suns2.5
Linkin Park Living Things2.5
Low Double Negative3.5
Love the dark atmosphere and noisy textures on this album. Also like the transitions between the first three tracks. The high point of the album for me would have to be the noisy climax in "Always Trying To Work It Out", it's amazing! What holds the record back at times is boring songwriting. Moreover, I highly recommend seeing Low live, I did and it was one of the best concerts in my life! I don't know what it is exactly about their live performance, but loved it despite not knowing most of the tracks.
Low Hey What3.5
Lowertown The Gaping Mouth3.5
LUMP (UK) Animal3.0
There are some interesting ideas presented here in both songwriting and sound, but ultimately the album falls a little short for me on pacing and energy. Still it can overall be an enjoyable listen.
Madleen Kane Rough Diamond3.5
If in the right mood, Kane's hooks are just incredibly electrifying. Hard to not move when this is on.
Magnolia Electric Co Magnolia Electric Co4.0
This isn't necessarily my kind of style, but I can't deny that these just exremely well written songs. The performance and emotion is definitely there.
Makthaverskan Ill3.5
Very fun and energetic album, perfect for dancing like noone is watching. Almost every track is great, especially I like the first three.
Makthaverskan II3.5
Very fun and consistent album. It doesn't have the greatest production, but that's not a big problem if the songs are that catchy.
Makthaverskan För Allting3.5
This is an urgently needed blow of fresh air for the band. While the previous albums all share a similar sound, För Allting dares to explore some different textures and songwriting. We see that already with the lovely ambient interlude tracks. However the band still plays to their strenghts by not deviating too far from their signature sound, resulting in a fun and consistent listen as usual. I especially like the closer.
Mary Margaret O'Hara Miss America2.5
Some songs here I enjoy alot, but the album as a whole puts me to sleep.
Melody's Echo Chamber Melody's Echo Chamber2.5
The textures an production on this album are for sure interesting, but in my opinion it just lacks decent songwriting. With this you just grow tired of the songs after a while.
Melody's Echo Chamber Bon Voyage4.0
This is a huge step up compared to Melody's rather dissapointing debut. This project features as creative textures, but trumps with more creative experimentation and just better songswriting which does not grow stale.
Mercury Rev Deserter's Songs3.5
Good album. The first half of the LP features has very strong tracks, both in songwriting and performance. In my opinion the second half falls of a bit, with not as consitent songwriting and some questionable production choices, like for example on my least favourite track here, 'The Funny Bird'. Still not a bad listen all together.
Midlake The Trials of Van Occupanther4.5
Man, I really love this album. It's super consistent, the only song that I would cut from the tracklist is In this Camp. Otherwise we have top material here, for example Van Occupanther and Branches are amazing. What I also like are the lyrical themes of life in simpler times. Especially Bandits stands out lyrically in my opinion.
Mitski Puberty 24.0
For me Mitski is basically the most emotional songwriter, and this album proves it. There is so much emotion in the vocals and lyrics, it's almost unbearable at times. Instrumentals and tunes are also great, but could be better on some tracks.
Mitski Laurel Hell3.0
Unfortunately I find this rather underwhelming for a Mitski record. It might hit upon first listen, however most of the songs here only have litte relistenability. The lyrics also do not impress me that much.
Mitski Be the Cowboy4.5
I didn't get this on first listens, but there are many reasons why this is an outstanding album. For once the songwriting and production is great, with many memorable moments and catchy hooks. Then there is Mitski's incredibly passionate vocal performance, and as the cherry on top the lyrics, somehow at the same time simply, relatable and deep. The parts where Mitski is desperately begging for kisses hit extra hard if you are lonely.
Mitski bury me at makeout creek4.5
These songs on here are well performed, catchy and super passionate, with incredibly emotional lyrics and vocals. What else could you hope for? A huge leap forward in Mitski's discography.
Molly Sarle Karaoke Angel2.0
Yes, the opener is immaculate. But what else is on here? I actually also like the last two tracks, but otherwise everything seems forgettable.
Mothers Audiotree Live3.0
Mr Twin Sister Vampires With Dreaming Kids3.5
My Bloody Valentine Loveless4.0
The noisy textures and the heavy use of repetition make this album super trippy. 'To Here Knows When' hits me especially hard.
My Chemical Romance Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys2.5
My Chemical Romance The Black Parade3.5
My Idea CRY MFER2.5
This debut starts of decent, but does not keep me interested all the way through. Probably would have worked better as another EP.
Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea5.0
The classic status is totally deserved. The songwriting is amazing, as well as the raw performance
and lyrics carrying so much emotion. One of my favouritte moment, which there are many of, is
"King of Carrot Flowers Part 2". I would just love to be in a moshpit with this playing live. The
following title track features one of my favourite lines ever:"How strange it is to be anything at
all." Actually I am not sure what this is supposed to mean, but I just adore it, however I try to
interpret it. In general this is a great album to sing along with, but at times, for example on
"Oh Comely", it's super difficult to catch breath. That Jeff allegedly managed to record the
vocals to this song all in one take makes it even more impressive. The closer of the album also
doesn't dissapoint at all, it's actually one of the strongest album closers in my opinion.
New Order Substance4.5
Incredible compilation. These are not only some of the best songs of New Order's whole career, but also probaply the best versions of these songs. The B-sides of the two disc version are not as impressive as disc 1, but here and there are still some gems to find, like for example 'Lonesome Tonight'.
New Order Low-Life4.0
New Order Power, Corruption and Lies2.5
I know this is regarded a classic, however I find everything in between opener and closer rather underwhelming, especially songwriting-wise.
Nilufer Yanya Miss Universe3.5
Amazing debut album. This is a blast to listen to. The songwriting, the performance and the production is all done very well. Yanya has her own unique style and knows her strengths. My favourite song here would probably be 'Melt'. The only thing on the album that I don't really care about is the concept which is going on with a few short intro/outro tracks.
Nirvana Nevermind4.0
Nirvana In Utero3.5
No Age People Helping People3.0
Although the first half of the record feels a bit one-sided and stale, the second half's better leg of songs wins over my enjoyment of the album. It won't knock your socks off, but what tries to achieve it does pretty well.
Open Mike Eagle Brick Body Kids Still Daydream3.0
Ought Sun Coming Down4.0
Very nice Art/Post Punk album with great energy and often hilarious lyrics. The vocals sell this for me.
Pavo Pavo Mystery Hour2.5
This may be fun to listen to once in a while, but unfortunately for me nothing comes close to the great opening track.
Pearl Charles Magic Mirror3.0
The rest of the album pales in comparison to the first song, but the whole thing can still be quite fun.
Perfume Genius Set My Heart On Fire Immediately3.5
The album starts off very strong, but slightly loses its focus in the second half. Still a pleasent listen.
PJ Harvey Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea2.5
In my opinion this album is rather underwhelming. Especially the cuts featuring heavy guitars have not aged well. Even 'This Mess We're In' with Thom Yorke on vocals I do not enjoy; I find his singing rather annoying on here, specifically on the third verse, where Harvey just speaks over Thom with the same lyrics. In total, there are some decent songs on this project, but for me they form a minority.
Prima Donna After Hours2.5
Protomartyr Under Color of Official Right3.0
Certainly not a bad album. I like catchy lyrics used in many songs, like "Alice in Chains played on repeat", or "the plan today is not to die". Some songs may feel a little bit lifeless, for example I think 'Come and See' gets rather boring after a while and would work better if it were shorter. Still I quite enjoy this record and especially the louder moments on here.
Protomartyr The Agent Intellect3.5
great post punk album with an aggressive vibe. I also like the lyrics, they're kind of funny often.
Protomartyr Relatives in Descent4.5
This is, in my opinion, the best post punk album of this century so far. Every track slaps. The lyrics are on point, I love the dark dark humor involved on many of these, as well as the criticism which lies behind it. For me, "My Sister" is one of the best album closers ever and feels especially rewarding when the "She's trying to reach you" line from the opener comes back. Just an incredible experience.
Protomartyr Consolation3.5
Protomartyr Ultimate Success Today3.0
Unfortunately this does not feel like up to the usual band's standard to me. The exception here for sure is the tear inducing closer, but many other tracks leave me wanting more.
Radiohead Street Spirit (Fade Out)3.5
Radiohead Kid A5.0
Radiohead Pablo Honey2.5
This debut isn't actiually that bad, especially if you don't compare it to it's followups. I like how, while being grungy, it also has songs that got that "self-pity"-vibe, wich later gats improved on The Bends. I mean tracks that have these whiny sounding vocals like in Stop Whispering. Also I love Lurgee!
Radiohead The Bends4.0
Radiohead In Rainbows5.0
Awesome album! Probaply the most consistent album in my opinion. With that I mean that really every song of the album speaks to me. Also I think it's quite remarkable that Radiohead managed to make a more radio-friendly album without loosing much of edge in their songs. There are still things that can grow on one as for example the heavy percussion on reckoner. What has also always fascinated me are the lyrics the album ends with: "Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen". I still don't know if this is rather sad or uplifting, but I know, that it's beautiful.
Radiohead Hail to the Thief4.0
In my opinion this is one of Radioheads most unconsistent albums, but still not a bad one. There
is a hand full of tracks here that I can still appreciate, but not really am into like most of
their other songs. The album also seems a bit too long and the tracklisting does not work well.
But what saves this album are some really good tracks, and there is also a hand full of those
here. The most I probably enjoy "Where I end and You begin", "Scatterbrain"(the most underrated in
my opinion) and "Myxomatosis", which is for me surprisingly a quite uplifting song despite the
heaviness and the dark vibe.
Radiohead A Moon Shaped Pool4.5
Amazing how Radiohead still manages to pull off a masterpiece after all this time! Unlike most other bands in their twenties, they even expand on new ideas and thus are not losing their edge at all. For example I believe it's new for Thom Yorke to experiment with latin sounds like on the beautiful "Present Tense", which is probaply my favourite on this album. Also this album feels more intimate than usual, but that's not a bad thing with how it is realized here.
Radiohead Supercollider/The Butcher3.0
These singles are a small 'Let down', compared to their usual work, but still very enjoyable
Radiohead In Rainbows Disk 24.0
Great collection of additional songs! There are definetly some heartwrenching moments here, for example on "Last flowers". I especially like the closer "Four minute warning".
Radiohead The King of Limbs3.5
Great album with a fascinating alternative approach. The first two songs can be a little rough, but the songs on the second half of the tracklist definitely make it an album worth listening to.
Radiohead OK Computer5.0
Radiohead OKNOTOK 1997-20174.5
Radiohead Pyramid Song3.0
Radiohead Knives Out4.0
Amazing EP, every song is great. I am always surprised how good Radiohead's non-album material is.
Radiohead Amnesiac3.0
While this album is definitely not without great songs, I feel like its one of their least consistent. Many tracks seem unnecessary to me, for example 'Hunting Bears'. My favourite one here would be the by the majority underappreciated 'Dollars and Cents'.
Radiohead The Daily Mail/Staircase4.0
Both songs are magnificent in their own way. Really nothing to complain about.
Reptaliens FM-20302.5
The album begins and ends in bangers, but to most of the songs in between I don't find myself going back to at all.
Rufus Wainwright Want Two3.5
This album is a mixed bag for me. While I like most of the songs, there are a few I don't, especially the closer "Old Whore?s Diet", which of course has to go on for almost 9 minutes. If this song wasn't there I would probably put a 4.
Sam Prekop and John McEntire Sons Of2.5
This project sounds great at first, but doesn't give me much more on repeated listens.
Sasami Sasami2.5
I adore the album closer. Apart from that and a few catchy motives, there is not much noteworthy on here. I like Sasami's style and personality though, and a live set that I witnessed was very fun.
Sharon Van Etten We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong3.5
I had to warm up to this album for a while and get used to the busy production choices, but in the end Sharon's songwriting consistently had me impressed.
Sharon Van Etten Epic4.0
One of her best projects. Instrumentally simple, but heart-wrenching storytelling and songwriting
at Sharon's peak.
Sharon Van Etten Are We There4.0
I figured that this album hits the most when not having listened to it for some time. When you keep repeating it some themes begin to become a little annoying, for example the chorus of "Break me", but when listened to again after some break, the whole album is just amazing.
Sharon Van Etten Remind Me Tomorrow3.0
I like many songs of this album alot. Also I think the progression to making more electronic music works pretty godd here. But for every song on this album that I love there is one that just should't have made it on the album, especially some longer cuts don't deserve their runtime and get rather boring.
Shinedown Leave a Whisper2.5
Shinedown The Sound of Madness3.0
Shuggie Otis Inspiration Information2.5
Sigur Ros ( )3.0
There are definitely some great tracks on here, but the half hour that makes up Untitled 5 to 7 just puts me to sleep.
Sigur Ros Takk...3.5
Compared to other projects of Sigur Ros, this album feels more accessible, which is not a bad thing. In my opinion it even adds alot, as I did not really connect with more long winded releases like (). The catchy shorter songs here are alot of fun, but also the long tracks which go back to their earlier style are great here. I guess for me diversity in an album is important, it makes it easier to tolerate a long runtime. Fortunately, 'Takk...' is some of the bands more diverse albums.
Sigur Ros Agætis byrjun4.0
Sloppy Jane Madison4.0
This thing is unique and filled with great ideas, emotion and performances.
Slowdive Souvlaki3.0
I am not too crazy about this one. Sonically it does sound great most of the time, but to me the songwriting falls a bit flat. As a consequence, this album is kinda sleep inducing to me. It can still be a pretty enjoyable listen, though.
Sonic Youth Daydream Nation3.5
I know this is considered by many as a masterpiece, but honestly I don't really feel it that much. Of course I still like many songs on here, like "Teen Age Riot", "The Sprawl" and "Candle", but I would not give this album anything close to a 10/10.
Sparklehorse It's a Wonderful Life4.0
Surely one of the saddest albums out there. When this hits, it really does, and for me it did especially after I learned about the suicide.
Spike Fuck The Smackwave EP3.5
A great collection of beautiful and personal songs, whose only weakness might be that they drag on just a little too long.
Starflyer 59 The Fashion Focus3.0
While there are some enjoyable songs on here next to 'Fell in love at 22', no other has comparable impact. As a consequence, the album falls a bit flat on repeated listens, but it's never a bad listening experience.
Stella Donnelly Beware of the Dogs3.5
Stereolab Mars Audiac Quintet3.5
This is a mess of an album, but each song has something special to it, something likeable.
Stereolab Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night4.0
This album runs through some highs and lows in its first half, but definitely wins me over with the amazing second half. The band definitely safed the best tracks for last, also since the closer is the best song here, in my opinion. All in all the album sounds great, and can be quite the experience.
Stereolab Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements3.5
Some ideas on this album did not age well, like for example the vocal effects on 'Golden Ball' and 'Analogue Rock'. However most ideas did age well, such that the album is still quite enjoyable for fans of the band and Noise Pop/Drone.
Talking Heads Talking Heads: 773.5
Very strong for a debut. Byrne's charismatic vocals sell this one for me. What I don't understand is the hype around 'Psycho Killer',as in my opinion it is actually one of the weaker tracks.
Talking Heads Speaking in Tongues3.5
Talking Heads Remain in Light4.0
Tenci My Heart Is An Open Field4.0
Exceptional album. This might not be for everyone, but the unique emotional singing style and slow paced folk instrumentals definitely work for me. Always listening with a painful look my the face.
Tennis Yours Conditionally3.0
It's definitely sweet on the ears, but after many songs on here impress less with repeated listens. Still a decent project. Tennis doing what they do best.
Tennis Swimmer4.0
Heavily underrated album. Sure it's not the most ambitious project, but what it tries to achieve it pulls of to near perfection in my opinion. This thing is full of infectious hooks supported by tasteful instrumentals. Very hard to not hum along to.
Tennis Tennis On Audiotree Live3.5
Consistently great performances, tunes and production, what more can you ask for?
Tennis Ritual In Repeat4.0
This album is a real treat. Not only do we get one catchy twee banger after another, but the songs also manage to sound fresh after repeated listens.
Tennis Young And Old3.0
It's a fun listen, but I am not crazy about it. Perhaps with a clearer mix I'd enjoy it more.
The Antlers Burst Apart2.5
There are some gems on here, but most tracks offer too little to justify their runtime. In the end it sums up to a rather boring experience.
The Antlers Hospice4.0
Incredibly sad and emotional album. Alot of these emotions is carried by the lyrics, rso only after reading them I really got into the album. What else is remarkable is the use of musical themes in the album. Some of the melodies are not only used in one song, but in multiple songs, in different settings. For example the verses in the amazing closer "Epilogue" carry the same melody as "Bear", but in an accoustic setting. Also, the end of "Atrophy" is the same theme as the end of "Wake". With this reuse of material and the incredibly heartwrenching story that is told in the lyrics, the album feels very consistent.
The Beta Band The Three EPs3.0
This compilation used to do alot for me, but coming back now I find it a bit slow paced. Still great ideas and execution.
The Cities we Light Man Down2.5
The Claypool Lennon Delirium South of Reality2.0
I can't explain why, but this sound just doesn't appeal to me at all.
The Cure Disintegration3.5
I must say that I don't fully get the hype, it's a good album for sure, but can sometimes feel a little long-winded. That's because the songs last very long and show little to no change up in song structure. Also, the incredibly emotional vocals and lyrics can feel very whiny, and I mean not in a good way. But to this one actually gets used to in the course of getting to know the record. Still, in the end it's a nice listening experience most of the time.
The Cure Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me2.0
I don't care for the majority of the tracks on this album and find the vocals extremely annoying. Of course "Just Like Heaven" is a great song, but it doesn't save the album.
The Dismemberment Plan Change2.5
This album cought my interest because of the great opener 'Sentimental Man', which has some unique
sound to it. And while most other songs of the album feature more or less the same interesting
style, they are not as strong in my opinion. After a few listens I got tired of the album, it just
sounded less and less special to me. I think this is because it features so many Pop Punk
elements, and the singing is not that impressive. In the end I still enjoy some songs on here, but
most of them I do not.
The Fiery Furnaces EP3.5
Very fun to listen to with a great flow, expecially in the first half. The second half is not as strong in my opinion, but of course still decent.
The Flaming Lips The Soft Bulletin4.5
Such an excellent album! Man, there are so many great things to say about this record. It's kind of sounding raw but also pure at the same time, I really can't explain it. The instrumentation is incredible, also great drum playing. Also fantastic lyrics, especially I like them on the Spiderbite Song, that's when they are really funny but also deliver a great message. One of my favourite moments of the album is probably that one part in The Spark That Bled after Wayne sings "caused a chain reaction", such an awesome instrumental and vocal combination. I must say that I enjoy the first half of the album a little more than the second; in the end I would give them a 10 and an 8 that average to 9.
The Flaming Lips Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots4.0
Excellent concept album! I like how the tunes, though really catchy, remain enjoyable because of
the interesting sounds used here and there. It's great to hear the main theme of the album not
only in the lyrics, but also in these sounds. The lyrics I also enjoy very much by the way. The
most "concept" like song of the album is in my opinion "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 2",
and it works incredibly well with it's placing in the tracklisting between "- Part 1" and "In the
Morning of the Magicians", which is probably my favourite. A kind of funny thing is that some of
the sounds on this track remind me of the skype-call-sound, that really used to confuse me in the
beginning. You see, I could probably write a whole review about this album. All in all it's
awesome and I recommend it to anyone.
The Flaming Lips American Head4.0
Nice to see a band that is so late after its peak still put out great music. None of the songs on
here stand out as amazing, but the album itself is quite the immersive experience, and feels like
a long dream. Especially I recommend a headphone listen, that worked the best for me.
The Gaslight Anthem The '59 Sound3.5
incredibly catchy album with interesting mix of pop-punk and country
The Go! Team Thunder, Lightning, Strike4.0
This whole thing just slaps front to back, especially the back (last song).
The Hidden Cameras The Smell of Our Own4.0
Super catchy songs, often intimate and gay. My favourite is probably 'Boys of Melody'.
The Hidden Cameras Age3.0
The Kooks Inside In/Inside Out3.5
The Magnetic Fields Holiday4.0
Super catchy and fun album. Every single track is great. I also want to note that the lyrics on many of the songs are very catchy and rememberable themselves, because of funny imagination and word choices, e.g. the line with the prostitutes in Thailand.
The Motels Motels2.0
The National Alligator3.5
What I like about the album:
- Great lyrics that sticks (like "it's a common fetish for a doting man to ballerina on the coffee
table, cock in hand")
- well balanced instumentation
- consistently outstanding drumming
- generally great songs

What I don't like:
- sometimes the production doesn't keep up with the wide instrumental spektrum (for example on the
track "The Geese of Beverly Road")
- I don't find the album 100% consistent, some songs get boring after a while (for example "Val
Jester", "Looking for Astronauts")

In general a great album, but comparing it with the reviews on this website, it's overrated
The National High Violet4.0
The National Trouble Will Find Me3.5
When I first heard this album, I immediately loved it. But after some listens some songs weren't
as enjoyable anymore. In general I still liked half of the album very much, but the other half not
that much. Tracks I didn't prefer are 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 13. Some of these fell a bit drowning in the
large number of instruments involved. But I have to say, coming back to this album after a while,
the songs felt more fresh again.
Little details that I really enjoy are:
- The drum cymbal near the end of Heavenfaced
- The mini-drop in Humiliation
- "It wasn't like a rain it was more like a sea" on Pink Rabbits
In general I still enjoy the album quite a bit, despite its flaws
The National Boxer4.5
The National at the peak of their songwriting! Also very well balanced between ballads and faster paced tracks. As with most National records this again features excellent drumming and at times catchy intelligent lyrics. A great example of this is the opening line of Green Gloves. One complaint I have with this album is the very rough sounding voice of Matt Berninger. I think that on following records his voice improves greatly.
The National Boxer Live in Brussels4.5
I like this version more than the studio version. The main reason for that is Matt's voice. On the original record it sounds much rougher, which I don't like. Also, they're obviously very good live.
The National Sleep Well Beast4.0
Great and much needed stylistic change for The National. This album feels different due to a slightly more electronic sound. This sound is mostly cohesive through the album and has a great recognition value. The songs feature good songwriting and also often catchy lyrics, like the repeating theme "I'll still destroy you", which can be probably interpreted in many different ways. Some tracks in the middle of the tracklisting don't impress me too much, but there is plenty other satisfying material on here. For example "The system only dreams in total darkness" is a highlight, expecially when played live. This track also serves as an example of the superb production on this record.
The National I Am Easy to Find3.0
On this album the National are yet again trying somethng new, which I always appreciate. The new direction features extensive arrangements with lots of vocals, especially vocals by women. This actually works quite well. The biggest problem that I have with this album is that it doesn't have many strong songs, and that's why it doesn't live up to previous albums. Of yourse I like a couple of songs very much, for example "Quiet Light" is amazing, and the title track too because of the "ticker tape" line. But many songs just don't seem exciting after many listens, expecially on the second half of the record. When it comes to the lyrics, I think that these don't stand out like in other National albums, either. I have to point out that I enjoyed the album surprisingly much after going back to it after a long break, which is nice.r
The National Cherry Tree2.5
The New Regime Exhibit A3.0
The New Regime Exhibit B2.5
Some of the tracks I like, for example "The Longing", as well as the last two, but in general this Ep does not impress me. The vocals especially don't convince, and I don't like the lyrical themes.
The New Regime Speak Through the White Noise3.0
Very ambitious solo project. I enjoy many songs on here, with probably 'Radiate the False' as my favourite. In generality I would not say the album is too consistent, though. Another thing that definitely bothers me are the lyrics. I do not get any emotion out of them, and also the topics do not connect with me. Many times they even seem hateful, like on 'Enjoy the Bitterness'. Still I would say this an album worth checking out.
The New Regime Coup3.0
The Radio Dept. Lesser Matters4.0
With the right mood this album can be such a lovely experience. Great songwriting and textures.
The Radio Dept. Pulling Our Weight3.5
The Smile A Light For Attracting Attention3.0
My enjoyment of this album is somewhat inconsistent. At times it sounds amazing, and at other
times I don't care much about the songwriting, although I always have to agree that the
musicianship and technical ability on here is incredible.
The Smiths Hatful of Hollow4.0
Great compilation. Some of The Smith's best songs are on here, and in my opinion often also the best version of those songs. I generally prefer the more rough mix on this record over the very clean album versions. Some of the songs near the end of the tracklisting don't impress me like the first songs, but still in general it makes a nice listen.
The Smiths The Queen Is Dead4.5
Easily The Smith's best album, and to me it has some strong Karaoke vibes. This is because not only every song is catchy due melody, but also often features catchy and funny lyrics. Even the sad songs would be great for Karaoke because they are so dramatic. Out of all cuts on this project, I think 'The Boy With the Thorn in His Side' is often overlooked but actually one of the best.
The Spirit Of The Beehive Hypnic Jerks3.0
The Strokes The New Abnormal4.5
Amazing record. This is easily among my favourites of the band, if not The favourite. The
production sounds incredibly clean, and despite being known for their garage rock, the boys
actually make it work. I can't say a single bad thing about The New Abnormal, its just a great
experience.
Fun fact: In my opinion the closer 'Ode to the Mets' sound suspiciously alot like 'The Frontier
Index' by the Silver Jews.
The Strokes Is This It4.0
This is undoubtly one of the most influential records of the post punk revival scene and even modern rock music in general. While I am not as crazy over it as with some albums that Is This It had an impact on, it's still a great listen. The album is very consistent, actually not one bad track on here, although I must say that the quality of songs slightly decreases in the second half. A great counter example to this is my actually favourite song of the album, 'Hard to explain'. While not as catchy as some other hooks in the tracklist, it just has the best energy, I guess it's just hard to explain :D
The Strokes Room on Fire3.5
Definitely a great album, not falling short of expectations after their incredible debut. This one still features the catchy hooks and great energy, but with a cleaner sound. However, after many repeated listens I feel like the replayability of this album definitely does not keep up with the debut, but on a fresh listen it's just a lovely experience.
The War On Drugs A Deeper Understanding3.5
This album sounds just amazing on first listen, however the impression might change with repeated listens. After a while some songs felt more stale and long winded. Also the lyrics do nothing for me, seem generic and plane. In general it is still quite the enjoyable album, with great vibe.
The Weeknd Dawn FM4.0
The Weeknd After Hours3.0
I enjoy this album quite a bit, except some minor issues. The vocals on the first two tracks are mixed so badly, I am actually surprised it went through like this. Further, there are some songs in the tracklist that drag out a bit, with lyrics I find too unrelatable to care. However there are many highlights here as well, where the popularity may be justified.
Thirty Seconds to Mars This Is War3.0
I used to like this album alot in my teenage years. Going back to it, it still has some value for me, but falls off near the end.
Thom Yorke The Eraser3.5
While this project has some songs that don't really convince in the first half of the tracklisting, it shines in the second half. In my opinion "Skip Divided", "Cymbal Rush" and especially "Atoms for Peace" are amazing. Not a bad debut.
Thom Yorke Anima3.5
The album starts off with "Traffic", my least favourite song here. I just cannot stand these obnoxious snares that come in during the chorus. But the album takes a quick turn with the next three tracks, in my opionion its best. "Twist" is amazing, and "Dawn Chorus" is just gorgeous. The remaining songs, while not incredible, are still decent, with "Impossible Knots" sticking out for me. Also worth mentioning is the great production work done here. Everything sounds super crisp and clean. All in all a nice listen, a good 7/light 8 from me.
Thom Yorke Tomorrow's Modern Boxes3.0
In general not a bad album, but it starts off on a bad note for me since I think the first three songs are lacking in quality. Luckily from there it keeps up a better pace and is almost consistent, with the last track being my favourite. One thing I want to mention is that on 'There Is No Ice' I undertand the vocals saying the german phrase "Hör ich den Rest" over and over again. Can someone confirm this or am I the only one hearing it?
Tindersticks Live At The Bloomsbury Theatre4.0
Tindersticks Tindersticks4.0
Amazing album! Especially for a debut. I love the grand arrangements, and the at times eerie edge to it. Despite the great number of tracks on here the album does not feel too long, which means it's consistent. I also admire what they did with "A Sweet Sweet Man", atleast I think splitting it in three parts works better for the song than putting it together. In total a great listen.
Tindersticks Tindersticks II3.5
Great collection of ballads. While I prefer the more dense instrumentation and more consistent tracklist of Tindersticks' debut, this project still satisfies with a sentimental performance of vocals and strings. An unexpected changeup, however, is the catchy and upbeat "My Sister", probably my favourite track on here.
Tindersticks Curtains3.0
Curtains has its moments, but its impact on me does not compare to Tindersticks' first two albums. I especially like the song 'Dancing'.
Tom Delonge To The Stars... Demos, Odds, and Ends2.5
Two Door Cinema Club Beacon2.5
When I was younger I enjoyed this record quite a bit. Now I find most of the tracks too overblown, that's why I prefer the more calm ones. These, like the title track or Spring, I still like quite much.
Two Door Cinema Club Keep On Smiling2.0
Tyler, the Creator IGOR4.0
U.S. Girls Half Free3.0
U2 No Line on the Horizon2.5
U2 The Joshua Tree2.5
For me this album feels massively overrated. There are of course some good songs on here, like
number 2 and 3, but apart from those, I am hardly getting any enjoyment from this record. Already
the opening track reveals that the albums production sounds muddy due to the guitar dealy effect
which is used pretty often. Not only is Bonos voice is often mixed to loud, he also tries way too
hard to sound emotional.
U2 Songs of Innocence2.5
Not much great material on here, especially in the second half of the record. However, I would not write it completely off since I still enjoy some few songs of innocence, for example "Iris (Hold Me Close)".
Ulrika Spacek Compact Trauma1.5
This album goes really stale really quick, as not a single melody here is memerable. A prime example that you should always care for the songwriting, even if you do psychedelic music.
Ulrika Spacek The Album Paranoia2.5
This album sounds interesting at first listens, but falls short after a few more. Most tracks don't offer much creativity, with "Ultra Vivid" and "There's a Little Passing Cloud in You" as exceptions.
Viagra Boys Street Worms3.0
Volbeat Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood3.5
Even though I don't usually listen to harder stuff like this I must say that I enjoy this album quite alot. The songs are so catchy that this album could be a good introduction into harder stuff for people that are not into these genres.
Volbeat The Strength/The Sound/The Songs3.0
Volbeat Beyond Hell/Above Heaven3.5
I used to love this when I was growing up, and it still sounds nice. Interesting mix of genres.
Volbeat Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil3.5
I used to play this alot when growing up, and I still kinda see why. The songwriting on here is just so damn catchy.
Volbeat Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies3.0
Wand Laughing Matter2.5
The great singles released prior to album drop made me pretty excited for this project. In first listens it felt like a solid album, but after listening to it over and over again many songs began to sound more and more stale to me. For example I think that "Jennifer's Gone" is one of the worst closer songs. "Laughing Matter" definetly has some heights, but as a whole it feels underwhelming and too long.
Weezer OK Human4.0
This album is simply a fun and great listen all the way through. Everything works well
together and the lyrics are often cheecky but relatable.
Weyes Blood Titanic Rising5.0
Incredible album! Easily the best of the year, and for sure one of the best of the decade. The Songwriting is absolutely astonishing, as well as the lyricism. I definitely find myself singing along to most of the album. Some memorable moments that stand out for me are for one the ending of "Movies", which is probably the best track on the album, and for second the very beginning of "Wild Time", consisting of a wonderful and playful vocal melody. If I had to point out anything negative about the record, then it would be that in my opinion the song "Mirror Forever" doesn't quite keep up with the other songs. But that is just a minor issue that only slightly affects the listening experience.
Weyes Blood Front Row Seat to Earth3.5
Certainly a pretty enjoyable album. While many tracks are actually only decent, there are a few that make up for it. An absolute highlight for me is 'Do You Need My Love', a song that I love so much that I would even go as far as saying it's one of the best of all time.
White Lies Friends4.0
Very fun to listen and consistent record. Not sure why it gets so many poor ratings here. Of course it's not their best project, but it gets pretty close for me. Outstanding in my opinion is the track 'Swing', mostly due to its amazing outro section.
White Lies Big TV4.0
A great record! Huge in comparison with the rather lack luster "Ritual" in my opinion. Also very
consistent, I enjoy every track on this one.
White Lies Ritual2.0
Dissapointing followup to the great debut. The songs feel like they want to sound interesting but they fail because of lackluster songwriting and over the top production. Some songs though, like 'The Power & the Glory' I like quite much.
White Lies To Lose My Life4.0
Unlike apperently most other people I find this album to be very consistent. I really can't think of a track here I don't enjoy and picking a least favourite is also not easy. The vocals on this record sound emotional to me but not to the point that they are whiny. I also enjoy the spectrum of instrumentation on the songs, not too narrow to sound repetitive, but also not too wide so the songs feel like they belong together.
Why? Alopecia4.0
William Doyle Your Wilderness Revisited2.5
I admire the ambition on this project, but it is not for me unfortunately. I am not sure what is missing for me, perhaps it's too proggy for my taste, or the vocals sound too unexpressive, but something definitely is. Still, some songs hit the sweet spot, like 'Design Guide'.
Yes Close to the Edge3.5
Young Jesus Welcome to Conceptual Beach3.0
The album is up to a promising first leg of songs, but loses me a bit at some point. Perhaps the last two songs could be kept shorter.
Youth Lagoon The Year of Hibernation2.5
It's a fun little album with some nice songs, 17 for example. But in my opinion it does not work good as an album because it lacks diversity. The specific style of the sound and the similar song structure of each song feels annoying when coming to the end of the record.
Yussef Kamaal Black Focus2.5
Zach McCoy mouth breathers2.0
In my opinion this album has alot of potential, that sadly doesn't get unleashed. The reason behind that is poor execution and production. A good example for this is the song phobias. I think, looking at the songwriting, it's a great tune, but the overblown instrumentation doesn't let that get through. Often the vocals are way too quiet and the instrumentation too loud in the mix. Overall the mixing is so inconsistent, it's hard to listen to the album without at least once changing the volume. Still I have to give Zach credit for trying to experiment a bit and not going the easy way of staying by his roots.
Zach McCoy Poor Fools3.0
Not bad for an independent debut, some of these songs are really good!
Zach McCoy the dirty future4.0
In my opinion this is Mccoys greatest project. It took a while to appreciate but the expirience ended up to be very rewarding. Although the singing is very monotone and might sound like Zach is being bored, the album stays diverse through different songwriting approaches. I also like some lyrics alot, like the hilarious phrase "Pieces of shit stick together", which I think of as a methaphor for people.
Zach McCoy 8 BIT SOUL1.5
There are some few good ideas here, but most songs are very annoying. Also the album sounds bad from a production standpoint.
