All Get Out No Bouquet3.5
All Get Out aren't doing anything revolutionary in their genre- they never really have - but each album there are always at least 5-6 songs that I really enjoy, and the same goes here.
August Burns Red Constellations (Remixed)4.5
Bayside Interrobang4.0
Birds in Row We Already Lost The World4.0
Blood From The Soul DSM-54.0
Boris Love and Evol3.5
Brand New Science Fiction5.0
Car Seat Headrest Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)4.0
Childish Gambino "Awaken, My Love!"4.0
Code Orange Forever3.5
Converge Beautiful Ruin4.0
I loved the sound and fury of the heavier songs on The Dusk in Us like Broken by Light and Cannibals, and these songs definitely have that feel. Melancholia is such a rad track.
Converge Jane Live4.5
Converge The Dusk in Us4.5
Converge I Can Tell You About Pain4.0
Converge You Fail Me Redux5.0
Converge All We Love We Leave Behind5.0
Converge Bloodmoon: I4.5
Creeping Death The Edge Of Existence3.5
Cult Leader A Patient Man4.0
Cult of Luna A Dawn to Fear4.0
Drug Church CHEER4.0
Every Time I Die Low Teens5.0
This is like New Junk Aesthetic fused with From Parts Unknown, and it may end up being tied with those two albums for my favorite ETiD record. They blew my expectations out of the water with this one. "Map Change" is not only one of the best songs they've ever written, but may end up being my favorite song released this year.
Every Time I Die Radical4.5
Father John Misty Pure Comedy3.5
Fleet Foxes Crack-Up4.0
Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues4.5
Frontierer Oxidized4.5
Fucked Up Dose Your Dreams4.5
This is surprisingly satisfying. The way FU are able to juggle genres so flawlessly on this album blew me away.
Full of Hell Amber Mote In The Black Vault3.5
Fury (USA) Failed Entertainment4.0
This album rules. Been listening to it all weekend since it dropped. Hits pretty hard.
Gilla Band Holding Hands With Jamie3.5
Gilla Band The Talkies3.5
Greyhaven Empty Black3.5
Grizzly Bear Painted Ruins3.5
Harm Wulf Hijrah4.0
Harm's Way (USA-IL) Posthuman3.5
Harm's Way (USA-IL) Isolation3.5
Hesitation Wounds (LA) Chicanery4.0
Wish this were getting more attention. These guys put a lot of raw energy into their music. Excellent stuff.
High on Fire Electric Messiah4.0
Solid as always. Pike and Co. don't know how to make bad tunes.
IDLES Brutalism4.0
John Carpenter Halloween Kills4.0
Judas Priest Firepower3.5
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard Infest the Rats' Nest4.0
Knocked Loose A Different Shade of Blue4.0
Those of you who are saying all the songs sound the same... give it a couple more spins. Many of the tracks really stand out on second and third listens. I think because of how abrasive and angry it is throughout it all kind of runs together on first listen. It's no game changer but it's a pretty solid hardcore album, it hits hard. Forget Your Name is a standout track for me, as it has Keith Buckley of ETiD on the breakdown section and he nails it. Good stuff.
Knocked Loose A Tear in the Fabric of Life5.0
Left Behind No One Goes To Heaven4.0
Mastodon Hushed and Grim3.0
I dig a handful of the tracks here but it definitely could have used a trim. No reason for this thing to be as long as it is. I keep seeing comparisons to Crack the Skye but this is nowhere near as captivating throughout like CTS is. Hopefully some of it will grow on me like Emperor did.
Meek Is Murder Was3.5
It's nothing particularly special but it's fast, angry and satisfying.
Melvins Houdini4.0
Metz Metz II4.5
Nails You Will Never Be One of Us4.5
Nine Inch Nails Add Violence3.0
Maybe this will grow on me, but after the first listen I'm not all that impressed. I loved Not the Actual Events, and I was hoping this would continue that sound instead of sounding like a bunch of b-sides or interludes from The Fragile. Not Anymore and This Isn't the Place are great tracks though.
Norma Jean Polar Similar4.5
Norma Jean Redeemer5.0
Norma Jean Meridional4.0
Norma Jean All Hail5.0
The riffs here are absolutely massive. You never feel like they are just going into a breakdown or heavy section
because it is expected, it all just flows together so well. Cory?s vocals are the best they have ever been,
particularly on the last couple of tracks... and they have always been pretty good. Absolutely stellar from front to
back.
Norma Jean Wrongdoers5.0
Norma Jean Deathrattle Sing for Me5.0
Palm Reader Braille5.0
Whoa, this is great!! Now THIS is how you make a good metalcore album in 2018.
Pig Destroyer The Octagonal Stairway2.5
Glad I didn't spend the money to pre-order this like I originally wanted to. The first three songs are pretty rad but after that it becomes borderline unlistenable. I like noisy music as much as the next grindcore fan but it's hard to anyone sitting down listening to the latter half of this release and thinking "Oh yeah, that's the good stuff".
Poppy I Disagree4.0
Preoccupations New Material3.5
Pressure Cracks This Is Called Survival4.0
Radiohead OKNOTOK 1997-20175.0
Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It4.5
Seizures Reverie of the Revolving Diamond4.5
Senses Fail If There Is Light, It Will Find You2.5
Silent Planet Superbloom4.5
Skeletonwitch Devouring Radiant Light4.0
Sleigh Bells Reign of Terror3.5
Spaceslug Reign Of The Orion4.0
Spiritbox The Fear of Fear3.5
Stake Critical Method4.5
This is one of the more original albums I've heard this year. I wasn't just impressed by the artistry on it, I was legitimately entertained throughout. Definitely worth a listen if you're into this kind of music.
Stray from the Path Internal Atomics3.5
Super Snake Leap of Love4.0
Swain Howl4.0
The Armed Untitled5.0
The Armed Only Love5.0
The National Sleep Well Beast3.5
The Republic of Wolves shrine5.0
Thrice To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere3.0
Touche Amore Stage Four4.0
No other album this year has given me goosebumps like this one has. The guitar melodies are especially wonderful, but the sincerity and delivery of the lyrics are the icing on the cake.
Touche Amore Dead Horse X5.0
Trap Them Crown Feral4.0
These guys always deliver. So satisfyingly heavy.
Turnstile Time and Space4.0
Underoath Erase Me2.5
Underoath Lost in the Sound of Separation4.5
