All Get Out No Bouquet | 3.5 |
All Get Out aren't doing anything revolutionary in their genre- they never really have - but each album there are always at least 5-6 songs that I really enjoy, and the same goes here. |

Code Orange Forever | 3.5 |
Converge Beautiful Ruin | 4.0 |
I loved the sound and fury of the heavier songs on The Dusk in Us like Broken by Light and Cannibals, and these songs definitely have that feel. Melancholia is such a rad track. |
Converge Jane Live | 4.5 |
Converge The Dusk in Us | 4.5 |
Converge I Can Tell You About Pain | 4.0 |
Converge You Fail Me Redux | 5.0 |
Converge All We Love We Leave Behind | 5.0 |

Cult Leader A Patient Man | 4.0 |
Cult of Luna A Dawn to Fear | 4.0 |
Drug Church CHEER | 4.0 |
Every Time I Die Low Teens | 5.0 |
This is like New Junk Aesthetic fused with From Parts Unknown, and it may end up being tied with those two albums for my favorite ETiD record. They blew my expectations out of the water with this one. "Map Change" is not only one of the best songs they've ever written, but may end up being my favorite song released this year. |
Every Time I Die Radical | 4.5 |
Father John Misty Pure Comedy | 3.5 |
Fleet Foxes Crack-Up | 4.0 |
Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues | 4.5 |
Frontierer Oxidized | 4.5 |
Fucked Up Dose Your Dreams | 4.5 |
This is surprisingly satisfying. The way FU are able to juggle genres so flawlessly on this album blew me away. |
Full of Hell Amber Mote In The Black Vault | 3.5 |
Fury (USA) Failed Entertainment | 4.0 |
This album rules. Been listening to it all weekend since it dropped. Hits pretty hard. |
Gilla Band Holding Hands With Jamie | 3.5 |
Gilla Band The Talkies | 3.5 |
Greyhaven Empty Black | 3.5 |
Grizzly Bear Painted Ruins | 3.5 |
Harm Wulf Hijrah | 4.0 |
Harm's Way (USA-IL) Posthuman | 3.5 |
Harm's Way (USA-IL) Isolation | 3.5 |
Hesitation Wounds (LA) Chicanery | 4.0 |
Wish this were getting more attention. These guys put a lot of raw energy into their music. Excellent stuff. |
High on Fire Electric Messiah | 4.0 |
Solid as always. Pike and Co. don't know how to make bad tunes. |
IDLES Brutalism | 4.0 |
John Carpenter Halloween Kills | 4.0 |
Judas Priest Firepower | 3.5 |
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard Infest the Rats' Nest | 4.0 |
Knocked Loose A Different Shade of Blue | 4.0 |
Those of you who are saying all the songs sound the same... give it a couple more spins. Many of the tracks really stand out on second and third listens. I think because of how abrasive and angry it is throughout it all kind of runs together on first listen. It's no game changer but it's a pretty solid hardcore album, it hits hard. Forget Your Name is a standout track for me, as it has Keith Buckley of ETiD on the breakdown section and he nails it. Good stuff. |
Knocked Loose A Tear in the Fabric of Life | 5.0 |
Left Behind No One Goes To Heaven | 4.0 |
Mastodon Hushed and Grim | 3.0 |
I dig a handful of the tracks here but it definitely could have used a trim. No reason for this thing to be as long as it is. I keep seeing comparisons to Crack the Skye but this is nowhere near as captivating throughout like CTS is. Hopefully some of it will grow on me like Emperor did. |
Meek Is Murder Was | 3.5 |
It's nothing particularly special but it's fast, angry and satisfying. |
Melvins Houdini | 4.0 |
Metz Metz II | 4.5 |
Nails You Will Never Be One of Us | 4.5 |
Nine Inch Nails Add Violence | 3.0 |
Maybe this will grow on me, but after the first listen I'm not all that impressed. I loved Not the Actual Events, and I was hoping this would continue that sound instead of sounding like a bunch of b-sides or interludes from The Fragile. Not Anymore and This Isn't the Place are great tracks though. |
Norma Jean Polar Similar | 4.5 |
Norma Jean Redeemer | 5.0 |
Norma Jean Meridional | 4.0 |
Norma Jean All Hail | 5.0 |
The riffs here are absolutely massive. You never feel like they are just going into a breakdown or heavy section
because it is expected, it all just flows together so well. Cory?s vocals are the best they have ever been,
particularly on the last couple of tracks... and they have always been pretty good. Absolutely stellar from front to
back. |
Norma Jean Wrongdoers | 5.0 |
Norma Jean Deathrattle Sing for Me | 5.0 |
Palm Reader Braille | 5.0 |
Whoa, this is great!! Now THIS is how you make a good metalcore album in 2018. |
Pig Destroyer The Octagonal Stairway | 2.5 |
Glad I didn't spend the money to pre-order this like I originally wanted to. The first three songs are pretty rad but after that it becomes borderline unlistenable. I like noisy music as much as the next grindcore fan but it's hard to anyone sitting down listening to the latter half of this release and thinking "Oh yeah, that's the good stuff". |

Sleigh Bells Reign of Terror | 3.5 |
Spaceslug Reign Of The Orion | 4.0 |
Spiritbox The Fear of Fear | 3.5 |
Stake Critical Method | 4.5 |
This is one of the more original albums I've heard this year. I wasn't just impressed by the artistry on it, I was legitimately entertained throughout. Definitely worth a listen if you're into this kind of music. |
Stray from the Path Internal Atomics | 3.5 |
Super Snake Leap of Love | 4.0 |

Touche Amore Stage Four | 4.0 |
No other album this year has given me goosebumps like this one has. The guitar melodies are especially wonderful, but the sincerity and delivery of the lyrics are the icing on the cake. |
Touche Amore Dead Horse X | 5.0 |
Trap Them Crown Feral | 4.0 |
These guys always deliver. So satisfyingly heavy. |
