It took me a long time to really decide how I felt about this record. Suffice to say, it's
the Sadistik I love, and he's consistently improving with every record including this, but
Cody may have been getting ahead of himself in creating this one. Things are entirely there
in the lyrics, but some of the beats and his delivery, in many cases, doesn't translate. In
comparison to his previous LPs, there is much to be desired, but standing alone,
Ultraviolet is a great piece of work. |

| I was introduced to Spires in a very strange way - Their song of this album, "Black Earth", accompanied a very powerful peak after eating some mushrooms. Wow, was that an experience, I thought. And so I went back, found this album, and ran it again; this time sober. Granted it's not as brilliant as I had recalled, but this is still a fantastic album. My only complaint is that at times they go a little too beyond the realms of what people generally perceive as folk music on this album and begin to delve into something a little more experimental and not quite as listenable. |
