Capdown Civil Disobedients
Amazing time changes, powerful rhythms and squealing guitar and saxophone melodies. Capdown's finest record, and one of modern ska's classics. With strongly enforced political messages and hyperactive vocals reminiscient of Zach De La Rocha which really grab attention. Not only is it loud, angry and exciting, it is also very dancable, with great saxophone breaks and imaginative instrumentation.
Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band Safe As Milk
Charles Mingus Mingus Ah Um
Circle Jerks Group Sex
Truly exciting hardcore punk rock. Everyone expected them to fail after Keith's stint with Black Flag, everyone knows Black Flags true talent lied with Greg Ginn. This was a loud snotty gobby spit in the face to those preconceptions, and they truly got thier 15 minutes. Short, sharp to the point and very fun.

Dr. Dre The Chronic
The record that introduced the world to Snoop Dogg. The laid back funk beats along with aggressive braggings of Dr Dre and his entourage makes for enjoyable if mixed feelings. A great follow on from NWA's hardcore shouts, its legacy is a mixed bag, but the beginings still sound fresh today.

Screaming nasal vocals, minor guitar chords and anarchy. This record truly changed what everyone thought punk rock was, the damaged writhing sound of rock and roll screaming for more. Its speed, distortion and attitude not only changed the punk rock world, but also metal and hard rock. With bands as varied as Guns n Roses and The Fall citing it as an influence.

NOFX Liberal Animation
NOFX came along way from thier snotty childlike thrash/hardcore beginnings. This, thier first record for epitaph, makes you wonder why they were ever invited back. With sloppy misjudged metal time changes, nasal vocals and idiotic lyrics. The metal influence remained for the later records, but they were smart enough to reign in enough for melodies and proper song structures. Fat Mike says he wishes thier Mystic recordings were never released, but this is much more shameful.
