Balmorhea Clear Language |
Not as boisterous or expansive as incredible Stranger, but considering Balmorhea's long history of
beautiful introspective music, this feels like a very effortless product. There's less folk here
than in their early releases, but the melodies are still haunting and quiet. Piano glides through
most songs, occasionally bouncing along to a soft beat, as in album highlight Behind the World.
Some songs give full stage to the guitars, whether it's one dripping with distortion in Ecco, or a
playful acoustic/blues mix in 55. Whatever the instrumentation, all songs have space to breathe.
Stranger was a sprint to the top of the mountain, and Clear Language is the rest at the summit.
Slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and just listen. |

Right up there with Pirohia, might be better. Chroma Queens is a banger. |

Long Distance Calling Eraser |
Sputnik needs to wake up to this band. Kamilah, Blood Honey, and Landless King are really good jams. This band has been consistent for 15 years, other than How We Want to Live. They ditched the weird spoken word bits too. |
Long Distance Calling Satellite Bay |
Another deliriously slept-on band by Sputnik. Jungfernflug and The Very Last Day are two certified post-metal bangers. Please indulge. |
