You know how when new album drops you visit sputnik and see those "yeah this is on par with their best album man you should check it out man" and it is not nearly as good?
This time they are completely right. The music here is very fun to listen to and the hooks are catchy as hell. Also the album is very uplifting when compared to their previous efforts (looking at you, a fever dream). Go give this a spin, especially if you missed the singles. Teletype is a fantastic opener and sets the stage very well. |

After waiting nearly 10 years for a sequel to Masstaden (which i liked very much) pretty
much everybody accepted that this album will not be as good as the first one. The golden era
of chug-chug has passed, first single for this was not very promising, and after all albums
that require a 10 year waiting period rarely come out in a state that justifies the wait.
Turns out none of that is true. This is a 1 hour an 20 minutes album that doesnt feel
bloated, with impressive writing all throughout and a truckload of callbacks to the original
record. If you can make it through masstaden nationalsang without saying "holy shit" to
yourself after being a fan of the first record you might not be human.
Exceeded expectations at every turn. |

evolves into this weird multigenre thing that works surprisingly well.

line, but here it made me pause the song and question myself if i even heard that correctly.

What a weird release. Awful rollout, spent 5 years in the oven and came undercooked. Mixing and mastering is hit or miss, but then there are some certified bangers here. Kendrick unexpectedly fits on all of the features, but the last third of the album feels like an afterthought.

Flower boy was the perfect balance between hip-hop and melodical emotional tracks. Tracks like garden shed are incredible, but
the way Tyler slots them into that record just elevates them further.
One first listen this has the same quality. Feels very close to the way flower boy felt and also the singles actually sound much
better when played in the context of the album, because those songs kinda had me worried.
Clear standouts are rah tah tah (who dat boy ver2.0), sticky (track is funny as fuck, sexyy red actually feels weirdly
appropriate here), tomorrow and balloon(why this shit works i have no idea but it does). |
