'Pain to Power' combines a saxophonist who pushes the envelope but never feels gimmicky, a vocalist who does well with hip hop and melodic stylings, a booming bass that adds heaviness underneath those and songwriting that sets beautiful scenes with great tension and release. 'Look Down on Us' exemplifies all of those things, feels like the focal point of the record and is an easy song of the year contender as Maruja marry aggression, power, melody and a unique style. Once in a while the lyrics get a bit too blunt but that is a small criticism of an otherwise wonderful performance by the frontman. Probably the best record to come out of that neck of the woods since BCNR S/T and one not to be missed by anyone interested in progressive music.

The histrionic sermonising from Wilkinson is important. In an album lashed with a powerful intersection of jazz and rap, the explosions of metal in the tail-ends of the songs will blow you away.
