Industry plants The Last Dinner Party deliver a somewhat competent first album whose flashes of pop brilliance are flawed by plodding songwriting, at times cringe lyrics, and a pace that's dragging despite the record's relative shortness (41mins).

People on here spend more time talking about a band being an 'industry plant' and gossip around bands in general than they do listening to music. After listening to this record for the last few months I had no idea about any of this and am glad I stay away from these message boards. It is way more fun to just listen to a record and know nothing about the artists, I guess until you go to do this silly exercise. In the end 'Prelude to Ecstasy' is an excellent glammy, proggy pop rock album from beginning to end. The music is catchy, the melodies are engaging earworms, the arrangements are grand and the band's music matches their image, which is kind of bleh but it works when paired with the tunes they play. Favorite moments are the romantic chorus in 'On Your Side', the transition from the simple first verse to the grand chorus of 'My Lady of Mercy', the vocal harmonies in 'The Feminine Urge' chorus and in general the catchy hooks throughout the entire record. Industry plants, aliens, boarding school rich folks or just normal musicians, this record just hits from end to end. There are more conspiracy theories and gossip on some Sputnik pages than my uncle's Facebook page.

The inaugural album from the London-based, five-women-led ensemble, The Last Dinner Party, unveils a compelling collection of indie pop anthems that seamlessly blend the modern production and lyrical sensibilities of the contemporary alternative pop generation. This eclectic band draws inspiration from a diverse range of influences, infusing their music with the danceable and progressive pop elements reminiscent of ABBA, subtle Glam pop undertones reminiscent of Roxy Music, and a variety of shades echoing artists like Kate Bush and others from the 80s pop era. Despite these influences, The Last Dinner Party manages to carve out a unique sonic identity, standing out with their distinctive sound and exceptionally witty and "progressive" lyrical content. While the album shines in bringing a fresh perspective to a somewhat dormant glam pop sound, there are some areas where the band could refine their approach, particularly in crafting a consistent lineup of standout tracks from start to finish. Nevertheless, the album injects a new vitality and charm into the somewhat stagnant realm of glam pop.
