blessthefall re-invented their sound on "Hollow Bodies," a modern-metalcore classic, and build rupon that success with "To Those Left Behind." While not quite the stellar, consistent effort that rwas "Hollow Bodies," blessthefall's latest effort has cemented their status as members of the rcurrent "metalcore elite" for lack of a better term, alongside The Devil Wears Prada, August Burns rRed and others. The album's singles "Up in Flames," "Walk on Water," and "Dead Air" prove to be rhighlights accompanied by the monumental track that is "Oathbreaker," while "Keep What We Want and rBurn the Rest," and "Condition//Comatose" make for a minor, mediocre section on the back-half of rthe album. This is seemingly not the same band behind the scene-breakthrough "Hey Baby;" rblessthefall have grown as songwriters and instrumentalists, producing another interesting yet rfun listen in "To Those Left Behind." They've found their "sweet spot" on their past two albums, rsetting themselves up for an intriguing future on forthcoming LP's.

A band from the "scene" days that stubbornly refuses to grow up or change, even Silverstein and Senses Fail have moved on to bigger and better things with their sound, however slight the tweaks. "To Those Left Behind" may as well address it's creators, who seem to have missed the music train to the present and are still releasing the same album with a different title years later. Does anyone care anymore? It's not bad... it just reeks of high school.

Hollow Bodies was a "good" metalcore record, but it did little to differentiate itself from the
plethora of other bands in the genre. And while I won't claim that To Those Left Behind
necessarily succeeds in differentiating itself, I find that it brings all the good parts of
metalcore to the table and nearly perfects them. The hooks are catchier, the riffs hit harder, and
the songwriting is more entertaining this time around. Easily my personal favorite from
blessthefall, albeit an unpopular stance to take.

Since Hollow Bodies their material has become way too electronic. Far more samples are used and less real instrumentals. It just feels like generic metal core.

Here's a question from me to Blessthefall concerning their newest offering: how much meh can a mehchuck chuck if a mehchuck could chuck meh? Though the instrumentation is brookable and Jared Warth's harsh vocal performance is fairly emotive, To Those Left Behind is lacking in the composition zone. To add to that, Beau Bokan's clean singing has barely any weight to it; a pebble with telekinesis is heavier than what Bokan tends to deliver. The album's last four tracks and maybe "Decayer" are basically all the drinks you need, so don't waste time plowing through the other songs; especially "Dead Air".
