Absolutely boredom inducing. Not even an average rock record, just a straight up slog to get
through. Scott's vocals very much sound like someone past it, or a complete has been who has
that "I still got it, let me get up there & show you" type of vibe, but it ain't it, not too
dissimilar to the absolutely mid AF comeback record by Extreme. Sometimes old dudes needed to
give it up when they have no ideas except for basic strummy guitar lines and "oo woo hoo oo
woo hoo" as a vocal line. Headspace was the only track I could dig, maybe as it was closer to
the sound of STP rather than the tired & had it rock musings slash usually indulges in. At
least in his own band Myles Kennedy;s vocal ability can carry his useless ass.

Very average heavy rock with Slash on guitar, nothing special.

While better than Slash's 2 studio albums, Contraband still shows that Slash has no crutch to lean on without Guns N' Roses. Most of the songs are incredibly bland with little to no memorable riffs or melodies, but they aren't bad. They are serviceable, and that's what this record is serviceable. I mean you won't be disappointed by this album, and you won't be blown away. This is middle of the road material, with many average songs and some awfully cheesy lows ex: Loving the Alien. If you love GNR you'll check this out regardless, but everyone else is advised to skip this unless you love generic classic rock courtesy of Scott Weiland and Slash.

Not bad, not bad at all but not amazing either. Nothing original or ground-breaking just good, fun hard rock. Sounds a bit like Stone Temple Roses though. Recommended tracks include 'Slither' and 'Fall to Pieces'

The conceptual realization of Contraband is actually enticing: a simultaneous throwback to hard rock of the 80's and 90's given a modern facelift. Unfortunately, it can't overcome glaring faults which leave almost every track from feeling, ultimately, uninteresting. Those who simply want decent rock music to enjoy on a casual level will probably get what they want here, but nothing truly stands out on either end of the scale.

One of the best Rock Supergroups since Cream, Velvet Revolver is comprised of David Kushner from Infectious Grooves on Rhythm Guitar with Duff McKagan (Bass), Matt Sorum (Drums) and Saul Hudson AKA Slash (Lead Guitar) from the once-mighty Guns N Roses. The vocalist for VR was until recently Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Camp Freddy fame. Their debut album Contraband is a fine piece of work that stands alongside the works of their daddy bands proudly and is essential listening for any Hard Rock fan.
