Review Summary: A rousing romp. A scintillating sandwich. A stupendous summit. A lovely lasagna. A sexy spaghetti.
It’s a delightful piano album, an indie sensation, and that’s how the cookie crumbles. Sometimes it’s easy, soothingly brushed chords. Sometimes it’s technicality one might imagine hearing in an old Western saloon; you’d have to shell out good coin to hear it. There’s percussive elements too that are equally intricate. The delight though, is not in talent marvelling, but the moody mood. The drums and piano tend to build up a tense atmosphere, and with lyrics like,
“I resent you for being so sure
I resent you presenting your life like a ***ing propaganda brochure”
it gets real, faster than a speeding fan of Taylor Swift. Instruments are heard, but are more importantly felt, and this gun shot to your chest injects
lovin’ into your black heart. Also, the music is delicious like a triple decker ice cream sandwich. A delightful combination.
It’s a topsy turvy, quirky, passionate indie popper that at times has much in common with vocal jazz. Emotion oozes out of every crevice of her singing style like Gideon’s wet wool fleece. Now I’m teaching you Bible lessons, which is ironic because this album produces revelations. Indeed, even in the end times this would still be a fun album. Scoffing at the tight melodies and actually, legitimately interesting songwriting on offer is not recommended. If you’re tired of the same boring, old music check Fetch the Bolt Cutters. These music notes have sniffed some crazy stuff and they’re riding a rollercoaster - and you’re strapped in - it might just lead to a blissful, yet bumpy ride. Make sure you have paramedics on standby when you check this out - it’s deadly potent. In conclusion, it is an entertaining album every time you return.
