Review Summary: A masterpiece of argentinian mainstream music
Charly GarcĂ*a is an argentinian musician, born in Buenos Aires in 1951. Considered as one of the best musicians born in his country, he took part on several groups as Sui Generis, SerĂş Girán or La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros before sailing on his solo career.
Clics Modernos is his second solo effort, qualified as one of the best records ever made in argentinian music. Using a soft, poppy, happy, accessible and pretty modern sound for the times, Charly camouflages the obscure lyrical content that the album features, that kinda shapes up a synthesis of his personal view about the argentinian society.
Some tracks talk about the military government that hit Argentina at the times, like Nos Siguen Pegando Abajo (Pecado Mortal), a super danceable, catchy and funny track that takes on the way the military acted against the society; Los Dinosaurios, a super melancholic anthem for the missing; Plateado Sobre Plateado (Huellas en el Mar) which talks about the exile (Charly was living and recording in the USA); or even Dos Cero Uno (Transas) which talks about the lack of principles of the society.
The music on Clics Modernos orbits around a rythm machine, that mixed with the synthesizers, take a very important role in most of the cuts, giving to it a unique sound in the argentinian rock/pop scene. Also, thanks to the participation of Pedro Aznar on the bass guitar, well known jazz musicians like Larry Cartlon or Casey Scheuerell and of course the fundamental part of Joe Blaney as the sound engineer of the record, Clics Modernos sounds fantastic from top to bottom.
A classic, unique, amazing pop record that even today, almost 40 years after its releas, sounds super fresh and consolidates as one of the best Charly GarcĂ*a's records of his whole career. Truly a masterpiece of argentinian mainstream music.
