Slipknot – Disasterpieces

Slipknot’s live DVD, Disasterpieces, was released at the time of their 3rd album, Iowa. Many of those who already saw Slipknot live will know how intense their shows are and this DVD does show that point to us. Disasterpieces has to be one of the best live DVD ever to be released not only for the bands incredible live performance but also for the quality of the video and sound production. The 1st disk is the whole concert and 2nd disk features all of the band's videos, including a rare animated version of "wait and bleed," the bonus audio track "purity," and much more.

Members:
#0 Sid Wilson - Turntables
#1 Joey Jordison - Drums
#2 Paul Gray - Bass Guitar / Backing vocals
#3 Chris Fehn - Percussion / Backing vocals
#4 James Root - Rhythm Guitar
#5 Craig "133" Jones - Samples & Media
#6 Shawn "Clown" Crahan - Percussion / Backing vocals
#7 Mick Thompson – Lead Guitar
#8 Corey Taylor - Vocals

Now what is so good about this live concert?

- Each member is at their very top and they don’t disappoint us at all. The amount of energy they each have is phenomenal as they are constantly moving about and jumping around the place. Although Sid (DJ) and the 2 other percussionists, Chris and Shawn, might not add as much musically as the others, they still make the live performance even more enjoyable to watch. Those who are interested in turntables should watch Sid’s solo.

- The London Arena crowd is also another high point of this concert as they are just as high in energy. Corey always tries to get the crowd involved (Liberate and Spit it Out) and the response of the crowd is incredible making the show seem even better and crazier.

- Of course a concert would be nothing spectacular without the effects and lights. Slipknot make us of some of the best effects: artificial smoke, fire (Heretic Anthem), fake snow (Gently) and many different lights flashing everywhere. All those effects make the performance better to watch and more interesting and it does add a more “extreme” touch to the atmosphere.

- The song list was chosen very well giving the crowd a mix between the best of the old and new material. Each of the songs are played very well and Corey’s vocal performance is stunning as he never seems to get exhausted after the constant screaming. Certain songs like “People=***” and (SIC) are played so well that you would rather listen to that live version than album version and it does pump up with a lot of adrenaline

- Just like any other DVD, camera angles are very important. Not only are there extreme camera footage but even first person views (mini-cam attached on each mask) from each band member and that’s what make this DVD different from any other one. The cameras never stay static and the first person view really does add something new (other directors should take example on this when making a live DVD). If I can recall, the 15 songs were filmed by “only” 30 cameras.

- Although Joey may be overrated by many of Slipknot fans, he is certainly not your average nu-metal drummer. You will be breath taken when you will watch his drum solo…. but wait did I forget to mention that his doing it on a rotating platform?

- There are documentary pieces in between some of the songs like the autograph sessions, the sound check (Mick and Jim playing guitar and Joey on the drums), the stage being set up, the band members preparing for the show etc…

Disc 2

• All of Slipknots music clips:
- My Plague (censored version from the Resident Evil soundtrack)
- Left Behind (Director’s Cut)
- Wait and Bleed
- Wait and Bleed (Animated version)
- Spit it out
• Multi-angled (static) version of 3 songs: Disasterpieces, People=*** and The Heretic Anthem

Conclusion
This was probably the best 20€ I’ve ever spent on a DVD. I have never seen a band play with such energy and fury. Everything has been polished including the video and sound quality, the song list was carefully chosen and each of those songs are well performed. The amount of live footage, video clips and bonuses is far from not enough and it should keep you entertained for a long time. This will surely please any Slipknot “maggot” and even any other metal fan so what are you waiting for? Buy it now!
