Review Summary: Please, just go listen to Belmont or Bearings to scratch that pop punk itch. This album isn't worth your time.
Waterparks’ latest release is a lot like a bad breakup, this album is bad and I can’t believe I wasted a half hour of my life on schlock like this. I don’t like this album and aside from a few decent tracks like Dream Boy, High Definition, and Easy To Hate, most of the record falls flat and sees the band going into a more pop sound. Not that going pop is bad per say, but most of the tracks feel like they could have been left off the record take the 14 second long track entitled Group Chat, all of the “song” is the 3 band members saying their names and proclaiming to be friends. Did I mention this band has a guitarist and drummer? Because you hardly hear them on the actual album, aside from a riff here and there the guitar in this “Pop Punk” band is almost nonexistent. The drums are nothing but produced beats, which I think is a horrible move due to the real talent this band does seem to have. Honestly, I’ll be damned, some of these hooks are pretty catchy and if the lyrics were better and not so pandering to middle schoolers who just learned how to curse, I could see myself enjoying the album more.
All in all, this album is bad. Waterparks are one of the biggest bands in the “scene.” The fact how they can get away with putting out an album as mediocre as this for their 3rd LP is sad, especially for a young band who showed so much promise on their first EPs and first full length.
