Review Summary: OLP returns from their misleading road since gravity and makes a connection with spiritual machines.
It has been almost a decade and a half since our lady peace started vanished from their spectacular beginning that made them so relevant in the 90's.
The band started to have problems post spiritual machines with guitarrist Mike Turner quitting the band and the change of producer with didn't help at all since both albums produced by Rick Rubin are remembered as the start of their downfall in popularity although the singles off gravity made the band stayed relevant in the radios for a while.
Our Lady peace made 2 failed attempts to bringing back their original sound, the first one being burn burn in which Raine Maida said that it was produced as raw as possible just like their debut Naveed, but the band still couldn't moved from their sound they started in healthy... and curve was made taking spiritual machines as a point of reference but again the band failed miserably bringing their old sound, even though the songs were written in a more complex way.
Now this EP is a return to form since spiritual machines and surprisingly, the album screams spiritual machines all over the place. Specially their first 2 songs, in which they reminded me the slow songs in that album like "are you sad". Sadly the band returns to their more poppy sound in the third track falling into place.
Finally the song Nice to meet you features arrangements more akin to their last albums but somehow the song could be easily confused with a song from happiness is not a fish you can catch which is great considering that the song is not a failed attempt for the band to return to the roots but a song with a contemporary and more complete production but with the structure of the first albums.
In other words this EP is great, the band finally got a connection with spiritual machines in terms of songrwriting (at least) and a few in terms of production, so there's hope for this band to revive from the ashes.
