Review Summary: Still consistent and memorable, Disco Destroyer is a satisfying and memorable thrash metal album.
Some old school metal bands may not be consistent to this day, but then some to this day might be. Yep, and Tankard are one of the consistent ones. Though, these German drunk head-banging mess creators do sometimes have the same sound, that does not matter as long as the consistency still lingers through their veins. Tankard do release some albums that may contain one or two bad or dull songs at the most, but the band also releases albums with all songs that are perfect or all songs that are excellent, such as albums like 1988's The Morning After, that album featured some good songs as well as some excellent tracks. Then you have albums like One Foot in the Grave (2017) witch contained a few alright songs and then others were very good or great. What I am trying to say is they are still consistent.
1998's Disco Destroyer is one of their albums that you have to listen to over and over to get used to it.
After a successful seventh album, Tankard signed up with Century Media, soon on to record an eighth studio full-length. The German thrashers entered Spiderhouse studios and by December 1997, Tankard were starting to record and Disco Destroyer was released by March 1998.
Despite the lack of critical reception, Disco Destroyer showed talent, and lots of it. Songs including "Planetwide Suicide", "Hard Rock Dinosaur", "Mr. Superlover" and "Tankard Roach Motel" showcases Andy Bulgaropulos playing hard riffs, in Exodus-style, whilst songs such as "Queen of Hearts" and "Away!" seem not as catchy as the rest of the songs but still remains as solid and fast as anything the band will do.
As said before, Disco Destroyer contains just plain and simple Tankard songs but then also has songs that can almost been found as perfect.
Songs like "Planetwide Suicide", also features a sort of Exodus feel to it, while others seem memorable but follow the same path. With the catchy lines from "Planetwide Suicide"; "Data goes straight to your brain, don't give a s**t about reality and it's pain" as well as the memorable chorus lines.
Lasting a good 46 minutes, Disco Destroyer has not a single bad moment and is guaranteed to satisfy data into your brain!
