Review Summary: iCon is a bit of a stretch
What can be said about this man then what has already been stated
Goofy, with not much substance and a laughable image
The same can be said about this lp
To start things off there is the obvious issue with Raff's rapping skill
Usually while he cannot rap he can still come off as entertaining because of his charm and somewhat funny and infectious lyrics, but on this most of that is absent
He constantly attempts to sound serious and "lyrical" but in the end comes off as just laughable
All of his signature trap songs are for the most part absent and the album is riddled with these feebe attempts to be taken seriously
Then there is the subject of production which is sloppy and badly layered
One of the tracks from the beginning of this lp "Kokayne" uses a trashy guitar sample poorly executed and then layered with heavy dub-step like beats which basically mask all of the half-assed lyrics. Thanking Diplo for that track
Although most of these areas on here are just plain poorly executed but there are some slight Grey areas
There are a few decent tracks here the lead single "How to be the Man" for example
With DJ Mustard coming on handling for the production with his southern grimy bass filled style. This perfectly compliments Raff's southern flow and good demeanor
Then there is the track "Aquaberry Dolphin" featuring Mac Miller him also handling the production with his Alias Larry Fisherman. What his has to offer is a perfect match in this particular track Mac's suburban stoner chilled out flow is just hilarious and fun to listen to with Raff's lax lines and jokes
The production is also decent with a very laid back but yet energetic take for the song
Overall with this particular Lp it's just overall a let down
Instead of his signature part trap esque style he gives us stripped down attempts to be taken seriously
With trashy production
Awful lyrics
Lacking in any actual humor we have a disappointment
