Review Summary: The Hellbound Hepcats have artfully recreated the sound of the 1950s, fusing elements of rock and roll, country and rockabilly for a sound that’s warm and glowing, truthful and passionate, raw and real.
The Hellbound Hepcats are a straight-up rockabilly/country duo consisting of Alexander Brown and Jordan Peddie. Formed in 2006, the band artfully crafts 1950s rock and roll, rockabilly, swing and country to create an aggressive sound reminiscent of Johnny Burnette, Chuck Berry and Brian Setzer with a hint of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.
The bandss sophomore album, No. 2, follows their critically acclaimed S/T 2010 debut. The ten song disc is a collection of hip gyrating, waist shaking masterpieces that touch on all subjects. From the heartbreak of "Like Lightning" ('Your love's like lightning, it shot me in the heart, before I knew what hit me I was left in the dark'), humor of "Underpants Dance" ('Than come on over to your house, babe I'll take off your pants and your blouse, and we could dance, yeah we could dance, yeah we could dance right there in our underpants') , to attitude of "Play With Fire" ('I'm a cheater, I'm a stealer, I'm a liar, I like to play with fire'), the album has a little something for every mood. Play it once, play it a hundred times, you'll never find yourself not tapping along to the contagious melodies looking for more.
