Review Summary: Party Music Death from Above 1979 were the first Indie band to ever really catch my eye. The combination of drums, bass, synth and vocals. The lo-fi producing, the punk attitudes. It was all so beautify executed. My knowledge of the Indie scene didn't extend too far upon release of this album. To me it was all a bunch of whiny Beatles copycats, and Death from Above were the exact opposite of that. There was a breath of fresh air on every release and this LP was no exception. They just did their thing, and rocked hard. It's not flashy nor is it trying to be some sort of revelation. It's only fatal flaw was it's time of release. With so many bands such as Lightning Bolt at the height of their popularity, it got caught it in a haze. It just sounded so redundant, however I believe it held a firm uniqueness and still does to this day.
Jesse F. Keeler and Sebastien Grainger show some fantastic musicianship on this album. The rapid, swampy, arpeggiating bass lines being accompanied perfectly by a an overwhelming amount of splashy high-hats, and tambourines. It's far from simple, but it doesn't feel fret wankery. The synth is featured in the lesser majority of the album. It compliments the sound more than you'd believe, but when it's gone you wont get the feeling that somethings missing. There isn't much that can be said about the vocals. They're just there. It's not a big departure in sound from Heads Up EP, but it shows substantial growth in the band. Arguably this is the better release.
Essentially it's party music. There's nothing profound to be found on the album, but there's something genius about that in itself. It's an album that just keeps pumping, and flowing like no other. Every song is danceable, singable, insanely catchy. There are some less noticeable tracks which may be dismissed first listen, but they aren't low points in the slightest. This album is fun, it never feels like a chore listening to it from start to finish. You can put it on in the background, it doesn't require your full attention but you'll still find yourself humming along. It's somewhat reminiscent of sludge/stoner metal, but anyone can enjoy this album. Wither you listen to The Melvins, or Death Cab For Cutie, it doesn't matter.
If you want to loosen up a bit, put down your Godspeed! album and have some stupid, silly fun, go out and grab this.

Haha, my bad. My grammar can be pretty atrocious at times and every time I re-read it I find another mistake. I'll probably get someone to proof read these in the future, but I'm just trying this all out for now. I just read that they were playing there, tickets still on sale?
| | | Isn't one of these guys in Crystal Castles now?
Maybe I'm wrong.
They have some pretty sweet riffs. Definitely not an album I would ever buy, however, it is certainly unique.

review really isnt very good. making generalised statements about indie throughout the review will not help your cause either.
| | | anyone remember that kid who referred to anything that wasn't blink 182 / asking alexandria / attack attack as "indie shit".
what a twat

Relax, brah. I'm not attacking hipsters, and I listen to all the bands your little friends at pitchfork rave about.
"If you want to loosen up a bit, put down your Godspeed! album and have some stupid, silly fun, go out and grab this."
Take that piece of advice, and stop crying.

i like this album, and assuming im sticking up for hipsters or anything of the sort is silly. if you listen to all that pitchfork music, why feel the need to bring it up? the godspeed reference is unnecessary. take the criticism on board.
| | | you do realize I wasn't talking about you, right? This record is awesome, I used to drive around jamming so hard to this back in my day

My mistake, iFghtffyrdmns. I thought you were insinuating something.
Oh, I'm all for criticism so long as it stems farther than "This review sucks." If anything, I'd appreciate input on how to improve my reviews. Obviously length is a problem, and it's something I'm working on. I'll also be more careful with my proof reading.

I would fix those, as neither is a complete sentence (as has been mentioned).
It was all so beautify executed.
*beautifully
It's only fatal flaw was it's time of release.
*Its and *its
With so many bands such as Lightning Bolt at the height of their popularity, it got caught it in a haze. It just sounded so redundant, however I believe it held a firm uniqueness and still does to this day.
Not really sure what you're trying to say here, and these sentences just seem awkward, I would just take them out.
perfectly by a an overwhelming amount of splashy high-hats, and tambourines
take out that "a", and get rid of that comma at the end there
but it doesn't feel fret wankery
huh?
more than you'd believe
sounds awkward and I'm having trouble figuring out what you mean by this...
you wont get the feeling that somethings missing.
*won't, *something's
There isn't much that can be said about the vocals. They're just there.
Then why bother saying anything at all? Personally, I disagree and I think that the vocals give the record an entirely unique dynamic, but that's beside the point.
may be dismissed first listen
I would change it to "may be dismissed upon first listen" or something along those lines.
Overall, the third paragraph is your best... it's actually pretty decent and shows some promise in your writing ability. In general, avoid including blatant generalizations, try to make a little more mention of the record's specific sounds... even consider throwing a few song names in there and saying something about them. This isn't terrible for a second go, just make these fixes and this will suck a little less. Right on.
