Review Summary: ehyyyyyy did i let you gooooooo stay with meeeeeeee chugga chugga
"cant listen to this as an album but each song is prty awesome"
- robertsona, Resident Genius
so basically i said that a month ago and i still say it now only with more
eloquence because that's just how i roll
in any case (except for "Case Woodard, stage name Case, is an American R&B singer who was born in New York City." thanks wikipedia) the first two songs from this are probably my favorite and if you're a total genius you've probably figured out why: because it's the first two songs that i listen to before i get tired of the whole thing. now i don't know about you guys but i think 2/12 (or 1/6 whatever floats your boat) is a pretty bad ratio.
which isn't to say that this record is -bad- or anything, i mean the songwriting is generally tight and j mascis is a pretty excellent guitarist (sometimes his tones are beedle deedle dee and sometimes they are chuggga chugga boom), but i'm much more fond with the idea of throwing this on a mixtape and driving around to it than sitting down and listening to the whole thing. i mean i can listen to just about any song individually and like it, but it gets tiring in bursts composed of more than three songs.
of course, in our ADD-riddled nation, i guess that's just what we need. other acclaimed records (see: 'post-nothing' (which i enjoyed a little more because it had 8 rather than 12 songs)) also suffered from this unfortunate something something (note to self edit in words later), despite being enjoyable in small bursts. that's why 'farm' is sadly relegated to pleasant, hard-rockin' finger-lickin' chicken-breedin' background music for me to listen to while i open tabs of facebook sputnik last.fm et al and press f5 like it's nobody's business
nice talking with you
