Incubus- When Incubus Attacks, Vol. II DVD
This DVD, released in 2001, focuses entirely on Incubus’ most recent works at the time. The radio friendly Make Yourself, as well as my favorite album of theirs, SCIENCE. This DVD is, for the most part, superb, with great concert footage and really cool special features. They let you know that these guys are more like 15 year olds in 21 year old bodies. The DVD isn’t flawless however. I’ll get to discussing how this disc will be sure to annoy the crap out of you at some point. Here’s the review.
* One thing I really got fed up with was the ‘Massive Song Index’ because of it’s incredibly annoying background sounds, with it’s synth noises and annoying voices. Stay away from it!!! Onto the review
Let’s start with the ‘
Especiale ’ section of the DVD. This concert is pretty good, covering a range of songs such as the rockers from SCIENCE, such as one of my favorites, ‘New Skin’. You can hear all the instruments perfectly, with just the right mix of bass, guitar, and drums. The audio quality is very good. The band tears through some Make Yourself hits, such as ‘The Warmth’ and ‘Clean.’ Brandon’s voice is very good. Dirk has some great skills live, and Mike’s guitar riffing is top notch. After a couple of tracks, the band showcases it’s first display of their single, ‘Pardon Me’ for it’s first appearance of 3. This song really annoys me, especially how every section of the disc has it’s own performance of it. The SCIENCE closer ‘Calgone’ is up next and they nail it, with thick basslines and schizophrenic lyrics. The closer for the show, is the awesome song ‘Redefine’. However, the performance is a little disappointing. Brandon blows through a big Swiss horn for a good 2 minutes before the song starts. It goes fine until the choruses, where his voice gets a little muddy. Another factor here, is the bass solo. It’s a bit longer, but it doesn’t sound much like the original solo. It’s a lot more notes than what he actually played, and doesn’t sound as good, in my opinion. But after all those minor flaws, this performance comes to a subtle end. This section gets a [4/5]
The second section is entitled ‘
Extra Love ’. It features a couple parts, therefore, I’ll type a paragraph for every different section of the menu. I’ll start with the ‘Live in Chicago’ performance. This section is a 4 song concert scene, with the best songs from SCIENCE. They start with a peaceful, shorter version of “Magic Medicine” and just tear into ‘A Certain Shade of Green.” This was done very well, and they get props for it. “ Idiot Box” is next in the play list and is quite strong. Brandon’s vocals are perfect. “Glass” ends the set wonderfully, with the bass standing out much more than the recording, and I really under estimated that bassline. It thoroughly rocks. The song has quite a catchy chorus and is more energetic live. This concert, while being very short, was really cool and I enjoyed it a lot. On to the extras.
The DVD is packed with extras, such as the pretty acoustic set of some really cool songs. “Summer Romance” is quite beautiful acoustically, even if it lacks the jazzy saxophone solo. The poppy acoustic guitar is really cool. “The Warmth” while already being sweet, is even more laid back, as well as the acoustic highlight of “ A Certain Shade of Green”. You really think that this would sound horrible, but they really laid down a cool version of it. I thought this section was quite cool. Very different, yet tasteful from the rest of the performances.
The band also gives you a menu of 7 videos, one of which being my mortal enemy, ‘Pardon Me’. (Sorry, but I can’t stand this song.) A lone Fungus Amongus track is featured as well, ‘Take Me to Your Leader.’ All of the videos are cool, except for ‘You know what.’ I thought that this was also an added bonus.
The bus tour seems to show the bands more immature side, with inappropriate material and language which will probably cause you to say, ‘That’s someone I can relate to!’ Pretty unusual. The video makings, while only being three minutes each are really cool, and they give you a better feel for the concept of each video and song. The Incubus slot machine is a pretty useless tool, and just gives you a stupid video of the band backstage. Other features include artwork and photography of the band, and so forth. We have reached the end of the section. [4/5]
You saw the good and the bad, now it’s time for the ugly.

Would I recommend it? A: Only if you have the patience and attention span to sit through headache making noises. Otherwise, STAY AWAY!!!!!
