Holy crap this is one of the best singles compilations i think i've ever heard. Each track is a belter and even the bonus stuff at the end is ace. It's unlikely that anyone in America has heard of Supergrass cause since they released their debut 'I should coco' eleven years ago.Supergrass have gone from been the cheekey chaps of the music scene who everyone loved to the just another 90's drag over band like Ash and Pulp.
But whlist the music world went crazy over Oasis and Blur.Supergrass were just 3 lads playing Pop Rock to a lazy generation. But it was brilliant uplifting Pop Rock at that.Debut single 'Caught by the Fuzz' was youthful, bouncy and punky but at the same time one of the best debut single england had ever churned up.Recent single 'Kiss of life' has more of a funk vibe to it but still works a charm.'Seen The Light' off 2002's 'Life on other planets' album sounds like a million dodgy 70's bands rolled in to one yet it still sounds original.Even when their ripping off Iggy Pop (Pumping on your stero) they can still get away with it.
Why Supergrass aren't the biggest band in the world is beyond me.Surley anyone would rather have 3 minutes of trippy wackey psycadelic rock (Rush hour soul) than bland indie stadium rock like Coldplay.Supergrass must be the most underated band in history.
Supergrass are without a doubt the best singles band of the last 10 years and god only knows why Oasis churn out pub rock crap and still get to play stadiums and bands like Supergrass stay in town halls and theatres. If you don't have this album yet BUY IT!! STEAL IT!! or simply just lend it off someone. The sit back and enjoy.Cause it'll be in your CD player for some time. Here's a rough guide to some of the tracks.
Caught By The Fuzz (Track #1)
A great track and a fine pop.I love the simple lyrics and driving riffs. The only problem is that it's a bit short.9/10
Kiss Of Life (Track #11)
Has a great little electro vibe to it and fantasic beats to it.yet again simple rhythming lyrics. But it all comes together a create a great effect.8/10
Moving (Track #4)
Darkest track on here.Lyrics are bit more complex and challenging. It has a brillant chrous which comes out of nowhere and shocks you.8/10
Alright (Track #3)
Their first big hit.Has a nice Ska guitar feel to it and contains the famous line ''We are young,we run free,we got teeth, nice and clean'' and has a strange slide guitar alike solo in the middle.9/10
Grace (Track #6)
A song about young love, really young love.As for the music it has a classic British pop (The Kinks,The Jam) vibe to it and i love the line ''Save your money for the children'.8/10
Pumping On Your Stero (Track #2)
As i said a strong Iggy Pop influence though out.As for the lyrics there's a Rolling Stones feel. For example ''Life is a cigarette you smoke till the end''.8/10
