This album is My Chemical Romance's major label debut. If you didn't know, this album is a concept album based on the song "Demolition Lovers" from the last album. It is about a man and a woman who get in a gunfight. The man thinks that the woman is dead, but the devil tells him that she is not, and he would see her again if he gave him the souls of 1,000 evil men. He told the man that he would find her when he killed the last man. Now lets get to the review.
My Chemical Romance:
Gerard Way (Vocals)
Ray Toro (Guitar)
Frank Iero (Guitar)
Mikey Way (Bass)
Bob Bryar (Drums)
Helena:
This is the second single. It is about Gerard and Mikey's grandmother who died just before they started recording. It has a strange beginning but it is such an emotional and powerful song. But it has been overplayed by MTV. 9/10
Give 'Em Hell, Kid:
A very fast song with a really catchy chorus, "If you were here, I'd never have a fear." The only problem is that it is only about 2 minutes long. But still a great song. 8.5/10
To The End:
Another great song. With an upbeat verse and and an emotional chorus, "So say goodbye, to the vows you take. Say goodbye, to the life you make. Say goodbye, to the heart you break and all the cyanide you drank." Definently a hilight on the album. 9.5/10
You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison:
This is planned to be the 4th single. Starts off with a slow verse and builds up to an amazing chorus that's fast and has a great riff and the song keeps this pace from their on. Then is the best solo I've heard from a mainstream band. One of my favorites on the album. 10/10
I'm Not Okay (I Promise):
The first single off of the album. It has a fun verses and and anthemic chorus. Gerard sings this song so amazingly, that you can't help but sing along. 10/10
The Ghost Of You:
This is the 3rd single. This is the slowest song on the album and has the most amazing chorus I've ever heard. With powerful lyrics like "I never said I'd lie in wait forever, if I died we'd be together, I can't always just forget her." This flows seamlessly into the next song. 10/10
The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You:
This seems like a more upbeat version of Ghost of You, but it doesn't have the same emotion or power. Nevertheless, it's still a good song.
8/10
Interlude:
Not much to say about this one. It's slow and has 3 lines. But for an interlude it's pretty good and flows seamlessly into the next song. 8/10
Thank You For The Venom:
Definently one of the best tracks on the album. It's very upbeat and has, once again, a great chorus, "Gimme all your poison, and gimme all your pill, and gimme all your hopeless hearts and make me ill." It also has another great guitar solo. 10/10
Hang 'Em High;
Starts off with an old western feel to it then blasts into fast riffs and screaming. Has a fast chorus, and again a catchy chorus and has lyrics reffering to the album story, "She won't stop me put it down, so get your gun and meet my by the door." A great song. 9.5/10
It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's A F**king Deathwish:
Starts off with a great riff and another catchy chorus. Also, it has some powerful lyrics like "When you go, just know that I will remember you." 9/10
Cemetery Drive:
Starts off with a slow verse and once again an amazimg chorus, "I miss you, I miss you so far, and the collision of your kiss, that made it so hard." This is a standout on the album and probably my favorite song. 10/10
I Never Told You What I Do For A Living:
This is the closer to an amazing album. It starts off with a fast verse, but the chorus doesn't match to others. This song has frightening lyrics such as, "Never again, and never again, they gave us 2 shots to the back of the head and we're all dead now." And "Another knife in my hands, a stain that never comes off the sheets, clean me off." This is the perfect song to close the album. 10/10
I'm gonna give this album a 9.5/10. This album has been out for a year but it never get's old, so I encourage everyone to go pick up a copy. If you do, listen to "Demolition Lovers" first and it will get you into the story of the album.
