I would've cared a lot about this 20 years ago. At this point, I think I saw Megadeth nearer the top of their game when I've seen them in the past and I'll just let that memory ride out.
|
| |
Thank god
|
| |
20 years ago we wouldn’t have had Endgame which would’ve been a great note to end on. Still I hope Dave enjoys a fruitful retirement and a big thank you from me to him for the many many years enjoyment I’ve received from his music. Peace Sells was the gateway to what would be my favorite metal genre and will probably always be my favorite thrash album ever.

Farewell album full of chatgpt riffs
|
| |
Band should’ve called it a day right after Dystopia
|
| |
If they could get Marty to come out for the victory lap, I'd probably go see it. Else, eh.
I wasn't huge on Endgame, but it was probably the best place to call it. Didn't care for Dystopia or the last one. And we all know what happened right after Endgame...
Still, weird to think that Junior's band will probably be running after the real Megadeth.
Oh, who am I kidding? We have at least 80 reunion tours to get through first.
|
| |
i almost guarantee marty will be around when/if they go to japan, but it'd be nice to see him at other shows too
actually what would be really cool is to see all of the guitarists they've had over the years (and have mustaine bury the hatchet with them) return for this final tour
|
| |
seems like a good time to finally listen to a megadeth album
|
| |
bring back chris poland
|
| |
^yesss
|
| |
One of the greats. Respect this move by Dave
|
| |
Good riddance. Had Peace Sells and Rust in Peace, last decent album came out almost 20 years at this point. Metallica needs to do the same thing.
|
| |
dystopia was pretty good, but that should have been it and it was a decade ago now
|
| |
band wasn't that good even in their heyday, glad to learn that they're hanging their guitars, although i always expect them to come back for a 50th anniversary tour or sth, lol...
|
| |
Just wanted to take time out of my day to stop by and say I don't give a fuck
|
| |
I love the megadeth slander going on in here. yessssssss
tbh the band was doing great after the turn of the century but their last one was really unimpressive and I didn't see them improving. I think the cancer took a toll on dave's voice because he sounds horrible in recent live performances. He could barely sing above a whisper at the 2025 Iconica Sevilla Fest and they tuned down to C sharp for it too. In fact, looking back, he appears to be signing some of the lyrics with ASL instead of singing. If that wasn't a clue that the end was near, idk what would be.
|
| |
what did dave mustaine do to you guys
|
| |
They’ll be back in 2028 to do a reunion tour, and then do a “we mean it this time, we’re finished” final tour in 2030 after they’ve rinsed their fanbase some more.
|
| |
^^ ah yes the age old trick. Never fails
|
| |
Dave can continue to be a bitter dickhead in retirement instead of active duty now.
|
| |
"They’ll be back in 2028 to do a reunion tour, and then do a “we mean it this time, we’re finished” final tour in 2030 after they’ve rinsed their fanbase some more."
what'd you meen we retired? we were just a little tired
|
| |
WHADYA MEAN I CANT COME OUT OF RETIREMENT AGAIN
|
| |
I look forward to his new career path as a televangelist/maga influencer
|

yeah while i respect dave for gutting it out like that, i'm kind of in disbelief people pay money to see him perform in this state. dude can barely speak let alone sing and their songs don't even sound like megadeth anymore tuned down that low. wonder if dave has ever contemplated hiring someone to sing their live set for him.
|
| |
I saw them in 2024 and it was pretty good but I also probably wouldn't have gone if I didn't get a $17 ticket. I'm glad he's doing what's best for his health
|
| |
the lamest band of the big 4
|
| |
I will listen to this bc dirk is the man. Not expecting much tho
|
| |
One of the most overrated bands of all-time agreed.
|
| |
D:
|
| |
Woah, lots of hate in this thread. Damn. I will 100% be going to the farewell tour. Have always wanted to see Dave live.
|
| |
hello me, meet the real me
|
| |
DIRK BACK TO SOILWORK CONFIRMED???
|
| |
2 undeniable classics and 14 other mid-to-trash albums.
|
| |
First six albums are essential listening stuff, plus a significant stake of the Metallica shop, not bad at all Dave.
-- band wasn't that good even in their heyday
Megadeth's heyday is something that 99% of metal outfits can only dream of
|
| |
Megadeth are fucking awesome, I have no time for any other opinion than this! Thanks for everything Dave! Look forward to the last album!
|
| |
God could litterally descend to earth and bless the world of the most beautiful music ever heard to man and Sputnik elitists would still say it sucks ass.
|
| |
Could God create music so lame even He couldn't listen to it?
|
| |
Dude wrote a few decent riffs in the 80s and now people are bringing god into this jfc
|
| |
yeah that's what's happening
|
| |
"what did dave mustaine do to you guys"
He's a homophobic piece of shit.
Good fucking riddance.
|
| |
What a year this as been.
|
| |
“He's a homophobic piece of shit.”
No he’s not lol totally misquoted.
|
| |
Well for starters im already worried this “great sendoff” will suck because they used AI to make their big announcement video. Couldn’t even hire real actors. Makes you wonder if they used AI for the music too.
|
| |
"No he’s not lol totally misquoted."
Lol
Stop. He opposes Gay Marriage. He's homophobic. Period.
Also, y'all remember when he accused Obama of staging the Aurora shooting?
Pepperidge Farm remembers: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/dave-mustaine-megadeth-si_n_1784525
|
| |
rust in peace is worth the mounds of hyperbolic claims it receives, and peace sells is quality
but otherwise yeah, they have good songs scattered through a bunch of meh
|
| |
Their singer is a douchebag anyway. Fuck em
|
| |
All the best to Dave in retirement. In the meantime I hope it's a good album to close the Megadeth discography in style.
|
| |
If the singer being a douche was a enough to make me hate their band I’d be out like 9 or 10 of my favorites lol
|
| |
Dave being a dick is the whole point. The Trademark persona of Megadave. He just take different forms in different eras
|
| |
Dave be coming out in year 2035 and claim everything from 2006-2025 was a social experiment
|
| |
I read the megadave personal diaries of ghostwriters as a teen and still could not not a love the music. Dave is a Diva. Some of the last rocks stars, but he really knew what he was doing for so long. I'll always appreciate the art even if the main guy couldn't control his impulses at all.
|
| |
They could have record their last album, make their final tour, and step down gracefully. But, no, they have chosen this road...
In my mind, they only do this to garner more tearful supporters to pay for their album and their tour, in other words, it's all business. And let's face it, metal fans/supporters are the biggest sheep of the lot, simply because they passionately care about their music...
|
| |
"Megadeth's heyday is something that 99% of metal outfits can only dream of"
In terms of sales and/or popularity? Definitely!
In terms of musicianship, (which, I know is a subjective matter), they have like one classic, and two or three really good albums. I wouldn't call that an excursion in excellence...
And personally, aside from Rust in Peace (which I love, but even that album wouldn't make it to my list of most rotated albums), I have jammed even their best albums two or three times and never felt the need to return. Like zero replay value....
I get what you are trying to say, but for me they've always been slightly overrated...
|
| |
"Dave is a Diva. Some of the last rocks stars"
agreed...which itself is a dead breed now.
|
| |
It's time. The musical output's been stale a hot minute, Dave's got mid-stage Crazy Crank Grandpa-Brain Disorder, and they've been hogging too many great musicians. Excited to see what Dirk does after he's freed from his stable, respectable, and presumably well-paying job... sorry, Dirk. But his talent has been somewhat squandered there.
|
| |
Egh this new single is boring af and the vocal performance and melody reminds me of a lot of dead-end local bands
|
| |
“In terms of musicianship, (which, I know is a subjective matter), they have like one classic, and two or three really good albums. I wouldn't call that an excursion in excellence...”
Yikes.
|
| |
the new song is fine, once the main riff gets going there's a good sense of urgency. but it's not a very interesting opening track, would fit better literally anywhere else on the track listing. and it makes me think that the album will be underwhelming if this is supposed to be the big single
|
| |
The single shows some urgency indeed, especially guitar-wise, but Mustaine's vocals leave much to be desired, compared to his standards.
|
| |
Endgame is the only fully listenable thing they released post-Countdown and even that is bogged down by some incredibly braindead lyrics
|
| |
^^Agreed about the lyrics.
|
| |
dave's voice is absolutely fucked nowadays, I'm assuming that's 99% why he's calling it quits. the new album I imagine will not be very dependent on the vocals.
