The Sick, The Dying... And The Sued!

2023-02-08 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 28 Comments
According to Blabbermouth, Brent Elliott White, the artist who created the artwork for Megadeth's latest album, The Sick, The Dying... And The Dead!, has filed a complaint against the megaband, saying he didn't get paid or given credit for his work. The artist is also suing Universal Music Group and others for copyright infringement, asking the court to stop the band and label from using the artwork.

Megadeth released White's artwork on June 23rd, 2022, without a signed agreement in place and without paying the artist anything for his work. "Shockingly to" Brent Elliott White, Dave Mustaine was credited for the record's art concept.

What the hell, this guy has done a bunch of art for them before including Dystopia. Just give the guy his money and credit.

[3] great headline

Alright, Fernando already has shot the best headline of the year.

Wonder what happened. Why didn't they just pay the guy? [2]
This story sounds very bizarre, I'm eager to know how could this happen.

Between this and Currents ditching their artist, after he'd already finished work on their album art, to use an AI album cover instead, artists are getting royally screwed at the moment. Do better, musicians.

They should definitely pay the man! On another note the track posted here is the first new Megadeth I've heard in probably like 8 years and instrumental wise it's pretty cool. I just really wish Mustaines vocals weren't there. On the older stuff and even some of the more modern stuff he works most of the time but man idk I'm just not feeling it on this one.

Not sure if the credit or this being news actually helps the dude, the artwork is seriously bad and he's attracting some serious buzz with this probably

that being said hope he gets his bag and then some

"and he's attracting some serious buzz with this probably"

You overestimate the "serious buzz". Visual artists get fucked over repeatedly; doesn't create buzz, it just happens because others feel it's easy to exploit them.

In this case, the quality (or lack thereof) of the art itself isn't the issue... TBH, the quality of cover art in the metal sphere is generally dogshit, and it's part of a generally expected aesthetic. Dude should be paid and credited... simple as that.
