New An Abstract Illusion LP, Sept 9th 2022-06-30 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 14 Comments | Progressive/atmospheric death/black metal trio An Abstract Illusion will be releasing their sophomore full-length Woe on September 9th via Willowtip Records. Take a peek at the new single, 'Slaves', below.
A note from An Abstraction Illusion about the lyrics:
"The over-arching concept for the album is groups, people or institutions oppressing others they perceive as beneath them. Removal of rights to bodily autonomy, child abuse, honour-based violence. The POV is taking on the role of the oppressor in the lyrics to "Slaves" (song title is another hint)."
Woe was mixed/mastered by Robin Leijon (Equilibrium, ATENA, and In Dying Arms). Artwork was done by Adam Burke.
Tracklist:
1. The Behemoth That Lies Asleep
2. Slaves
3. Tear Down This Holy Mountain
4. Prosperity
5. Blomsterkrans
6. In The Heavens Above, You Will Become A Monster
7. This Torment Has No End, Only New Beginnings
Preorders begin Friday July 1st.

FINALLY!!! Been waiting for a follow-up to Illuminate the Path, song is a gorgeous slapper
| | | I loved their debut, but this track isn't doing much for me unfortunately
| | | are we not gonna talk about those lyrics?
| | | Damn, didn't know bands were still doing reddit atheist lyrics. Also I dislike the vocals.

| | | Returned to actually pay attention to the lyric video, wow yeah that's not good :/
| | | Gross. I love death metal and slam but I draw the line at the constant rape references. This is borderline criminal.
| | | The way I see it is exactly the opposite. The narrative is condemning the abusive oppression on women - "HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN" - the ignorant man's argument. The second half of the lyrics dresses the skin of the abuser/aggressor. I believe there's a cross-cutting concept to this.
| | | Hello, Karl from An Abstract Illusion here.
The over-arching concept for the album is groups, people or institutions oppressing others they perceive as beneath them. Removal of rights to bodily autonomy, child abuse, honour-based violence. TheNotrap is correct, the POV is taking on the role of the oppressor in the lyrics to "Slaves" (song title is another hint).
| | | Additional note included.
| | | New song rules Karl, can't wait for the album to drop
| | | This song goes hard as fuck. Lyrics aren't really quality to me, but it's obviously condemning violence/aggressions towards women like Notrap said. The narrator doesn't always have to be like "This is bad/I hate this" outwardly in the lyrics to make commentary on how the behavior in question isn't okay.

They could even be referring to life or to earth as a woman.
You need to up those interpretation skills homie.
That said, music is amazing, lyrics... mmm not so much.

Yeah, I agree. I'm going to listen to Fucked With A Knife by Cannibal Corpse instead.
