Abysmal track
|
| |
Have you ever said anything positive
|
| |
woosh
|
| |
By the numbers meshuggah for sure, solid, will probably never revisit it
|
| |
The Engineer did Tomas DIRTY on the mix though, holy fuck.
|
| |
Slays, feel like the anti hype brigade will come down hard on this one but w.e
|
| |
By the numbers meshuggah for sure, solid, will probably never revisit it [2]
Wish they could just release a box set of video playthroughs by Haake so I'd actually have a reason to buy something from them
|
| |
Haake has an infinite amount of limbs, true story.
|
| |
april fools
|
| |
april fools the guitarists use every fret except 0!
|
| |
The Engineer did Tomas DIRTY on the mix though, holy fuck. [2]
Every album more polished than the last and usually that's deemed to be an improvement. Yet I'll always prefer the first mix of Nothing much more over the remix.
|
| |
Good.
|
| |
I really liked it.
|
| |
-a box set of video playthroughs by Haake-
go put some kind of copyright or some shi on this before the label heads see this : ]
|
| |
Good song, hype
|
| |
Slaps yea
|
| |
That's some good Meshuggah. Looking forward to the album.
|
| |
absolutely destroys face
|
| |
Track is awesome, I kinda miss the production style of the last album but I can't complain.
I'm interested to hear how the more dynamic tracks will sound, like that 9 minute instrumental stoner doom one.
|
| |
I love how the chords are arranged over the riffing but the riffing isn't that interesting
edit: dunno, maybe I'm being uncharitable, the song's nice 'n tense, fairly compelling and not totally saturated with monomania like some shuggah can be, it's a B or whatever
|
| |
Album cover seems to be very divisive. I like it, it kinda has that DEI meets Lateralus in hell vibe
|
| |
paint by numbers meshugs, will give it a few more listens but first go round was a bit underwhelming
|
| |
Song is the definition of average.
|
| |
Good song, hype [33]
|
| |
The album cover is absolutely horrible.
|
| |
I can always appreciate the talent it takes to remember all of these constantly changing meters, but man do I find Meshuggah boring as shit most of the time. I respect these guys a lot but I don't "get" why people love to listen to them so much.
This was okay. Production is meh but some grooves hit nice, especially at the end.
|
| |
do yourself a favor and listen to Uneven Structure - 8 EP instead
|
| |
I'll take shug over uneven structure 8 days out of the week personally
|
| |
I take Shugg always hmmmmmmmmmmm 💚

I did a whole review:
This track gives you a similar
merciless pummeling that was inflicted on 'The Demons name is surveillance'. We have eerie guitar peddle ambience contrasted against stacato machine gun bursts. There is the usual chaotic, post modern guitar solo to cut through the mud bath of guitar. It's all wrapped up in some slip sliding time signitures, of course, but at this point it all seems moot. Jens Kidman still sounds like he's rubbing two pieces of sandpaper together.
The track is let down by some dissapointing drum production; what happened to the more organic sounding acoustics on the last album? Haake's grooves are made to sound more rigid and the fills are less well placed and effective than a signiture track like 'Bleed'. The band's melody, vocals and rhythmic phrasing is deja vu, no matter how many turns they take, we seem to always arrive at the same destination.
They know their niche by this point and the days when they released cutting edge material are well and truly in the rear view mirror. When they release their defiantly named album 'Immutable', it will take a die hard fan to trudge through the mire yet again.
|
| |
I'm now back on this site because there is new Meshuggah.
Yeah, this isn't Clockworks or anything, but it's still skull crushingly great stuff. 100000/10, 1 song in and 1 month into the year and it's already gonna be AOTY for me.
|
| |
Oh shit lucca is back nice
|
| |
what a fuckin song boys
let me hear ya
|
| |
If anyone was going to stop my Sputnik hiatus, it was gonna be these guys m/
|
| |
The Shuggs bring us together, get hype m/
|
| |
HOLLER
IF YOU CAN HEAR ME
|
| |
dig the more pronounced synths/atmosphere in this song, this band could always use some more atmosphere imo
Better than Clockworks imo, but this is more my taste.
Yeah, it sounds like typical Meshuggah, but I feel there is more atmosphere/synths in this song than usual. Maybe I should go listen to the last two albums though since people say this is just their usual stuff. I don't remember the last album being this atmospheric, though.
|
| |
HOLYY! Lyrics even more Meshuggah esque. The intro is a bit Gojira esque but that's okay esque..
|
| |
"The album cover is absolutely horrible."
When have they ever had good album covers?
|
| |
^ lol EXACTLY.
Maybe Obzen but they're all collectively bad.
Song slays don't know why people always feel the need to put down a band for not changing styles.
|
| |
Agreed
|
| |
"Maybe Obzen but they're all collectively bad."
How are Catch33 and TVSOR bad tho?
|
| |
hate that drum sound : (
|
| |
how could sputniksweetheart say something so stupid
|
| |
It's decent but the production certainly fucking sucks and does not help. I'm kind of worried this is going to be an album where the production really hinders what could've been a much more solid effort. Those drums do not sound good at all and they're one of the biggest cogs in the machine for this band.
|
| |
"Better than Clockworks imo, but this is more my taste."
Ehhhhh hard disagree. This song is a great workout track for sure, but Clockworks is infinitely more interesting and just expands into madness like 3/4 through that track. I do like this more than Born In Dissonance, though.
"When have they ever had good album covers?"
I mean, I fucking LOVE the Violent Sleep artwork. That's one of my tattoos lol
And yeah, obZen artwork is dope - One of the stinkers is Nothing. And Koloss is a bit too cluttered imo, can barely tell what's going on there.
This new artwork is pretty tryhard imo with the fire and the knife lol, it's like a middle school idea but I don't give a shit because their music is just so goddamn good.
|
| |
added to the gym playlist
|
| |
Album art is awful but I also love it. It's a skinless dude emerging from a fireball with a knife.
As complex as their music is, it's still caveman sh*t.
|
| |
I can only enjoy Meshuggah when there are solos and synths or atmospheric stuff. I find their pure "in your face" songs very dull.
So, that one's alright appart from the very repetitive chugging first part.
|
| |
"And yeah, obZen artwork is dope - One of the stinkers is Nothing."
*Triggered*
|
| |
The yellow Nothing cover is their best don't @ me
|
| |
Pmuch
|
| |
stonked for this!
|
| |
song gets better the longer it goes on
|
| |
Is it just me, or has everything since Obzen sounded EXACTLY the same?
|
| |
it’s you
|
| |
It's not just him, he's spot on and a lot of people have been saying it. There is no giant leaps in terms of going from destroy erase improve, to chaosphere, to nothing, to I, to Catch 33 and then to Obzen. They have settled on a formula, with minor tinkering from album to album.
|
| |
Track rules, it got me hyped for the album.
|
| |
Track rules band rules
|
| |
It's you [2]
|
| |
That double bass goes hard right away
|
| |
At this point it's clear that the band could not care less about what others think about their album art. And as a fan I could not care less either since their music more than makes up for it. This single has me hyped.
|
| |
i love it so much
|
| |
If ever there was such thing as a "standard" Meshuggah song that could fit on any of their previous albums, this is it. Not boring, just typical, nothing that makes me go, "Whoa, they're really pushing their sound into new territory here." Every album has these types of songs and they are, quite frankly, the reason why listening to an entire Meshuggah album has always been near impossible to do. The average, "standard" songs are like road blocks to the interesting ones.
|
| |
some fans can at least tell it’s a bit death metally this time around
|
| |
Yeah that was my first impression, getting the Gojira golden era vibes
|
| |
Always skip singles. Glad with the hype.
|
| |
So good
|
| |
Song gets better with every spin in typical Meshuggah fashion.
There's a 9 minute song on this new album too, I'm not ready lol.
|
| |
9 minute *instrumental* song m/ m/ m/
|
| |
So hyped for this.
|
| |
Smae. Hype is real.
|
| |
good song, awful drum mix
|
| |
No idea how they're gonna pull off a 9 minute instrumental, that's literally the only worry I have with this album.
|
| |
Don't think this would fit at all on Contradictions, DEI, Chaosphere, Nothing or Catch though xeno.
RE "If ever there was such thing as a "standard" Meshuggah song that could fit on any of their previous albums, this is it."
|
| |
Why is Per Nilsson even in this band, just like Jeff Loomis in Arch Enemy hes pretty much just a touring member, get that bag I guess
|
| |
This band should have better producers considering their status in the metal world. Also, ffs can someone teach them how to record a fucking solo???
|
| |
They've already done well enough by keeping people like Misha Mansoor the fuck away
|
| |
Also, their recent stuff sounds huge, not sure what you're on about
|
| |
bands production peaked in the 90s agreed
|
| |
look at tundra trying to find something to peg against the band lol
|
| |
They're no Periphery that's for sure
|
| |
still don't get why they had the perfect sound on ObZen but made the following albums sound so flat, especially the drums.
|
| |
TVSOP sounds way better than obzen
|
| |
Obzen is one of their worst produced records imo. Much prefer the Nothing Reissue, Catch 33, TVOSR mixes. The production on this new one is pretty awful, especially the drums.
|
| |
... it's not even released yet! How can you be sure it's going to suck on the record itself based on one YouTube-released song?
|
| |
Because if you've heard one Meshuggah song you heard em all. They actually have 80 songs that sound exactly like this one, did you know?
|
| |
"Because if you've heard one Meshuggah song you heard em all."
What are you even doing here lol
|
| |
"Because if you've heard one Meshuggah song you heard em all. They actually have 80 songs that sound exactly like this one, did you know?"
this would be a lot more apt criticism coming from anyone other than the sites number one cookie-cutter djent defender
|
| |
"Because if you've heard one Meshuggah song you heard em all."
I can already tell that I'm not going to like you
|
| |
There certainly are statements with which I agree more.
|
| |
Listening to this bad boy again today, it gets better each day, that solo is so m/
|
| |
The production on here sounds good lol
People just love complaining about shit
|
| |
good song
|
| |
Why does the production sound so soft on such a hard song?
I'm listening to this on studio headphones and there's no way YouTube is screwing up the mix that bad.
|
| |
This Meshuggah song definitely Meshuggahs. Has quite a bit of Meshuggah going on, but also some Meshuggah as well. Only thing it's missing is more Meshuggah.
Seriously, what were people expecting?
P. S. It rules. Production does seem a bit off but that really is probably YouTube compression bs.
|
| |
lol people who complain about production. it's like who cares about the actual notes being played or how the song makes you feel, only how it sounds through my $tudio headphone$!!
|
| |
Oh makes sense you guys are jamming it through ballbag youtube
|
| |
If people are jamming this through YT then yeah, it's inevitably going to sound bad haha.
|
| |
The drum production definitely isn't quite right, but the main issue with this song is that's its just not that interesting. Hope there are better tracks on the album
|
| |
I'm sure this is more straightforward than what we're going to get. Most singles are.
|
| |
lol people who complain about production
i'm just not a fan of the super compressed drum sound, its especially noticeable in the clickiness of the kick drum. thats why koloss has some of my fav meshug production
this song grew on me though, pumped for the new record
|
| |
I tend to mostly notice production when I can't hear an entire fucking instrument, like And Justice For All. Otherwise, I don't have a great ear for it unless it's like shockingly amazing.
|
| |
I play drums and have been in the studio a lot. It's super noticeable for me but I can understand why it wouldn't bother a lot of people
"i'm just not a fan of the super compressed drum sound, its especially noticeable in the clickiness of the kick drum. thats why koloss has some of my fav meshug production"
Koloss sounds great, agreed
|
| |
Here is what Tomas Haake said about the production on Immutable:
“Sound-wise, we were going for a warmer sound this time around, less harsh mids and highs in the guitars and less abrasive cymbals,” he said. “Getting older, you feel like, ‘I wanna be able to enjoy this,’ and not just be mauled and run over.”
I really like the mixing on Koloss. And on Obzen (although they are really different). But I have to agree with Tomas that they can be extremly harsh and this single does sound really "pleasant". I could listen to it for hours without my ears getting fatigued. You can hear the bass really well, the snare sounds phenomenal, the bass drum is not overly loud like on Koloss. I quite like it.
Maybe I'm getting older too.
|
| |
I'm getting older too, and I want their next release to be an all acoustic record.
|
| |
Lol. Yeah, meshuggah unplugged... let's do it
|
| |
Damn man, this band has four albums in a row with straight 4.0 averages lol.
That's pretty m/. The only one I couldn't get with was Violent Sleep of Reason.
|
| |
For the older people: Futile Bread Machine off of Chaosphere Reloaded
|
| |
@Eakflanderyof - Hell yeah dude, let them show off their emotional range m/
@Assemblage - Yeah their discography is unreasonably consistent. They never really fuck up.
|
| |
I'd totally be down for Meshuggah acoustic. Totally!
|
| |
Sounds like Meshuggah, I don't know why all of you are are tripping about it. Also everything that this band does is for a reason. Catch 33 had programmed drums, Koloss was done using guitar plugins etc...and there you go, Thomas gave you the answer to the drums sound
|
| |
Sure, he did. They just don't sound great
|
| |
Song is business as usual. I'll definitely be spinning it in the gym.
|
| |
fuck I love this
|
| |
Reading Tomas Haake’s comments above explains why the only productions of theirs that I enjoy are the last album and original Nothing. It’s mind boggling to me that he can call mid range ‘harsh’ (the guitar is a mid range instrument!) yet thinks the overly compressed ‘Pssshhhh’ of the cymbals in this new track sound ‘warm’. This is the guy who has incredible ability as a drummer and then sound replaces all his work, so it sounds almost like a midi (again, the last album fixed that).
|
| |
its mostly just a triggered drumkit from hell iirc, but yeah i kind of agree. i like the mechanical sound of obzen, but the original nothing recordings are the best production theyve ever had.
|
| |
I love when art makes us feel things we need to express
|
| |
Find someone who loves you as much as Hyp loves the og Nothing
|
| |
its great!
|
| |
"Find someone who loves you as much as Hyp loves the og Nothing"
Tomas' organic snare and china deserve all the love
|
| |
That ending breakdown at 4:09 is fuckin nasty! Great groove, stoked for the album
|
| |
Sounds great.
People who act like it's gonna automatically sound shit if you're listening on YouTube have poverty level speakers/headphones.
|
| |
Loving this track m///
|
| |
haha G40st, yeah it's really hard to talk about "production" these days when people's listen environment varies so widely
|
| |
"poverty level" okay, gimme money lol
|
| |
