Hmmm

What is this? An onion article?
|
| |
lol no fuck this band
|
| |
Maybe thing good
|
| |
I will do no such thing!
|
| |
oxbridge guff, never trust a trust fund baby when they tell you they're skint
|
| |
yeah, fuck em
|
| |
nice try Jesper
|
| |
What is even the big deal about this band? I found their debut to be an unfocused mess.
|
| |
I never feel like I can connect to any of their music, it just all feels aesthetic to me. A below average, unexceptional, artsy jam band at best, with a sense of smug detachment despite also clearly taking themselves very, very seriously.
The absolute logical conclusion of their middle class, mummy bought me a telecaster for my 12th birthday, round rimmed spectacles wearing, art kid jazz appreciator™ fan base.
|
| |
wow that was like 5 RYM comments in one
|
| |
not really, rym users generally love this shitty band
|
| |
Good band*
|
| |
As per usual for Sput, this band is not nearly as good or as bad as yall are saying lol
|
| |
this band is as rym as it gets lol
|
| |
retards in here crying because not everyone wants to hear every band act like the sleaford mods-shite miserable crybaby shit about how much their life sucks, and you know actually enjoys music
i swear some of you must be so miserable and insufferable in person, like every negative comment i ever hear about this band reeks of 'i failed in all my career ambitions so now i'm going to sit around and shit on other people's success'
these guys are the new wave and the future of british indie, get used to it or become the lame snobs you were supposed to rally against
|
| |
kek
|
| |
"these guys are the new wave and the future of british indie"
bri'ish imdie ch00ns m8
How can they be the future of indie if they run out of daddy's money?
|
| |
Yard Act and Black Midi have entered the chat.
|
| |
remembering why i barely come here anymore
you sound like a comment on a rolling stone facebook page
|
| |
My father was in Underworld don't you know
|
| |
and there you go
like i just don't get why this site is so full of miserable fucks these days, everything is just contrarian bullshit. no one adds to the discussion of anything, it's just trying to sound as insufferable and snobbish as possible. at least people used to be funny or creative about it. the fucking irony of calling anything that somewhat deviates from bog-standard indie artistically 'middle-class' as if the working class can't appreciate it is fucking stupid.
|
| |
I haven't listened to any new music since Oasis broke up, don't look at me
|
| |
song good yeah or w/e m///
|
| |
whatever man, i'm practically done with this site at this point anyway
feel free to keep posturing on the least relevant music forum on the internet, i'm sure it reflects well to others
|
| |
I can imagine it's tough to make a financially viable career out of music. It's especially tough for a band like this who have 6 or 7 members. I remember Los Campesinos! had some members working part-time jobs to support themselves or straight up quitting because they weren't making enough money.
|
| |
Okay but you just casually dropped the r-word on the least relevant music forum on the internet like it's 2013 or something
|
| |
do you really not realize how much misery your own comments radiate
|
| |
"Okay but you just casually dropped the r-word the least relevant music forum on the internet like it's 2013 or something"
this is your soundoff
"Forest Of Harambe Under The Sign Of Harambe
About as much fun as being wanked off by a syphilis-ridden vietnamese tranny."
|
| |
Field Music had an interesting interview before with The Guardian which basically said that they are lucky to have wives that help support them because they make so little from music. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2012/feb/19/field-music-brewis-plumb-interview
It's just a tough job to do, I bet.
|

August 27th 16
|
| |
yeah when you're slicing the pie that thinly it's not like anyone's getting much, just a passion thing at that point. you'd have to play shows like five days a week the whole year to be making alright money, and that's assuming you don't hit a point of overexposure where your sales drop off
iirc one of the LC! members manages a tattoo shop near me, might have to try go there in the future
|
| |
"August 27th 16"
yeah it wasn't cool to say tranny then either mate, maybe clean your own house before calling others out
|
| |
Yeah man. People love being twats on the internet. That's like, the internet's favourite thing. No social repercussions. Make fun of whoever you like and then log off.
|
| |
Well what can I say, I was dumb back then, 6 years ago. I'm just glad I don't have to grasp at straws to justify saying slurs for the disabled in 2022.
|
| |
We all make mistakes, man. It's all good. Whether you made a mistake 10 years ago or just today, people change.
|
| |
sinternet really not portraying this band’s fanbase in a positive light itt
|
| |
Have you ever listened to this group, Colton? What do you think?
|
| |
Hilarious that apparently it’s other people here that are the negative ones when all the guy does is complain incessantly.
|
| |
‘whatever man, i'm practically done with this site at this point anyway’’
Bye, don’t let the door hit you on the way out
|
| |
Yeah I like their last album, Science Fair is really good
|
| |
@Sinternet
It's just not sustainable unless your relatively successful. It's not enough to get good word in British press. Those expenses get worse the more members you got, too. May have to consider part-time work while they grind out their music. A lot of artists across many medias have to do it.
@Colton
I only listened to their album a couple times but I think I'll give their new one a listen too. Wasn't sure this would be your vibe or not.
|
| |
What the fuck happened to this thread lmao
|
| |
One of those days, innit Slex?
|
| |
A couple of people pretty tamely said they don’t believe in these guys and their schtick… on the back of a comment that’d always be likely to attract at least an eye-roll or two…
Sint disproportionally went off on one, like usual
|
| |
I had no idea he was being serious tbh oops
|
| |
nice
|
| |
if it wasn’t pasta before it definitely is now
|
| |
That's the sort of thing this band sings about, isn't it?
"She sits astride a table-cloth in Berlin eating Italian pasta."
Same chord bangs out for 6 minutes.
"Thought I saw Jesus in her tagliatelle and I was in love."
I jest. I jest. I can't really remember much of their album. I recall some Black Midi vibes.
|
| |
Did someone mention pasta
|
| |
Fresh, moreish, al dente
|
| |
I like the squiggly ones. Fusilli.
Don't tell me it all tastes the same, Normaloctagon, because I'll just deny it.
|
| |
I was thinking that the other day, my favourite is the bowties, farfalle
|
| |
I like those ones too. The little folded bit - I like the density of it. That's why I like fusilli. It's got more density to it.
|
| |
You're so right, that folded bit in the middle is amazing when the pasta isn't too soft
|
| |
We got this pasta shit figured out, man. High-five.
|
| |
Farfalle, penne and linguine are best
|
| |
pasta in general is one of Mankinds few unequivocally great accomplishments.
|
| |
Let me taglia-tell ya about the pasta elephant in the room
|
| |
Hah! Nailed it.
Hansolo is right, too. Pasta pretty much one of the definitively great things humans can be proud of.
|
| |
-Farfalle, penne and linguine are best-
pappardelle lad.
|
| |
Okay yea yall are both right I love fettuccine so much
|
| |
I'm about to make chicken sausage n roma tomato pasta w linguine actually represent
|
| |
make it a puttanesca and be happy
|
| |
it was Italian day at my work last night. I had gnocchi and bruschetta. it made me realize that most Italian food is basically just oil and cheese. they were smart enough to figure out that's all you have to do to make good food
|
| |
what in the shit happened here
sint mate you do know that being the future of anything is impossible without the odd lighthearted pisstake yh?
|
| |
"A couple of people pretty tamely said they don’t believe in these guys and their schtick… on the back of a comment that’d always be likely to attract at least an eye-roll or two…
Sint disproportionally went off on one, like usual"
compared to the thread? maybe, but this is just a general annoyance. it's cliche to say the site is dead and it isnt because generally the last couple of years new users have been pretty decent, but its so boring these days coming into any thread and getting exactly what you predict - miserable people disparaging anything and everything and posturing on an irrelevant forum. it would be fine if there was any substance or discussion in these comments, but those 'eye-roll' comments are the majority of comments made on the site these days, just unfunny attempts to appear elitist. the one thing this site had on places like rym before was the ability to have longer and more fleshed-out discussion, and that's slowly eroded into snarky off-hand comments everywhere vying for attention and taking over every part of the site. there's no point to this site anymore other than a few morons giggling to themselves as derail anything worthwhile. it's played out and dull. it's always the same suspects and i find it hard to genuinely believe they enjoy anything. maybe i've been on this site too long idk, but there's so little bringing me back here these days other than the few people i like interacting with who aren't already on discord servers.
|
| |
im fine with a pisstake of anything. it gets kinda old the billionth time though. at least be creative with it.
|
| |
i also just genuinely fucking hate the faux-working class unity bullshit that people try to use to disparage any art that isn't just about being pissed at thatcher, it just screams kid who wears a hammer and sickle armband and shouts at people to read kropotkin, whilst doing nothing to actually improve conditions
|
| |
are you ok
|
| |
and that's slowly eroded into snarky off-hand comments everywhere
yeah but tbf my brain doesn't have the capacity for much more than that anymore what with the apocalypse and everything
|
| |
It’s actually pretty fucking positive here and in many threads with a strong community. It might be more positive here than ever. I’m kind of surprised to read some of sinternets comments.
|
| |
Also their most popular video on YouTube is from two weeks ago and only has 400,000 views so they aren’t even that popular. This future of thing might be a bit much. 🙂
|
| |
It's pretty funny that sinternet is the one wigging out about negativity on this site when close to half of his 24,000 comments consist of him just typing shitbandshitbandshitband on Periphery threads.
I mean no offense buddy, you seem pretty chill most of the time, but that's a serious lack of self awareness.
|
| |
aight sint, i feel this discussion would be better served in the bcnr thread, but whatever. i don't really outright disagree with most of your grievances tbh, but i'd rather they got a proper response from someone, so
in the long run i don't think either you or i are in the best position to fingerpoint snarky comments, but by that token ig we can both vouch for how stifling it is to get fixated on that kind of interaction, especially with certain people (colton show yourself out). i question the degree to which this is really a site-wide culture tbh; i see a lot of positive detailed discussion in a lot of threads, and if there's also a ton of friendly circuitous shitchat in others, then i'd just consider the mark of a healthy community. the miseryguts antics you're describing are something i see more for bands/albums-of-the-moment than anywhere else - and yeah, it's tiresome when everyone checks an album for the same reasons as everyone else and therefore wants to stand out with an opinion that doesn't correspond to anyone else's - not a sputexclusive phenom, but still an obvious one
personally, the last two years were huge for my discovery, but i never realised how easy it was to lose sight of things that inspire you about music in an overactive jumble of other people's masshyped paper trails - following too much of that shit for its own sake sucks and leads straight to bitterness central. much more mindful of keeping a positive headspace this year, but i can relate to the culture you're describing and think it's actually p vital to spotlight it from time to time
if we're gonna make this specific to BCNR though - which i think may be more productive? - i also relate to how disenfranchised people on sput have felt by the mammoth hype they've racked up in practically every other pocket of the internet; being told that something you feel indifferent to negative about *is* the future when all the signs are indicating as such seems like a pretty sympathetic basis for digging your heels in, no? on top of that, so much of this band's schtick is rooted in post-ironic snark that i think it's hardly surprising to see the same levelled back at them; live by the sword, die by the sword etc. (ironically, that's probably the part i enjoy most from them; found most of their music so far v dull, but basketball shoes got me somewhat hopeful). i get that there's a grinch-ass edge to the kinda comments that imply some kinda wish-they-didn't-exist/fuck-their-success attitude, but i still think most of the sput blowback is better viewed as its own thing
"genuinely fucking hate the faux-working class unity bullshit"
yeah, this is v tiresome as a critique of this band in particular
|
| |
Umm Johnny a corkon callout is healthy but come on, we know how stubborn he is. He will consider this an invitation. 🙂😇
|
| |
Anyway, just listened to Concorde. It’s really boring and blah and this sound has been around forever. Am confused.
|
| |
Are we sure this is the band to cook spaghetti over? 🍝 Hopesfall does exist you know. 🙁
|
| |
the inherent snarkyness of both johnny and sinternet was clearly firmly engrained before I even made this account. I merely adapted and did what I had to do to survive and now you guys are turning and pointing the blame at me. you created this monster
|
| |
About time these lads lived up for their potential. What a fucking beautiful song.
|
| |
also pretty much all my comments are positive anyway and youre the one that responds to me circlejerking over any and all dream pop or folky sowingcore with snarky comments about how basic they are and food metaphors. so foh naming me as a way to placate sinternet's temper tantrum
sinternet btw goes out of his way to perpetuate hostility more than like any sputnik user ever and it's no surprise that the guy whose vocabulary consists primarily of "retard" doesn't actually help to contribute the substantive discussion points he's yearning for
|
| |
Damn Colton I’m gonna have to check your bat to see if it has cork in it cuz those home runs are bout to break the atmosphere.
|
| |
yh that's going in the same bullshit filing as when tundra claimed to be the nicest user on sputnik. adapt better / c u in the etid thread
|
| |
“When tundra claimed to be the nicest user on Sputnik”
Trif and Diva are just two threads over lol 🙂🙂🙂
|
| |
diva is an all-destroying monster but heh yeah, trif defuses all contests before he even steps into the ring
|
| |
"in the long run i don't think either you or i are in the best position to fingerpoint snarky comments,"
sure, i will admit to glass houses and all that, and i do cringe fairly often when i come across old posts of mine to be honest. in my defence, I was a tryhard angsty mess then, and so seeing the same kinda thing now from other people just reminds me of that. i'm not talking really about little baby boys who need their bananas mushy like colton though, that's just part of growing up and being a cringy young adult. it more irks me when i see it from people who are a lot older and for some reason thinks it looks cool? i struggle to really get the reason
" i question the degree to which this is really a site-wide culture tbh; i see a lot of positive detailed discussion in a lot of threads, and if there's also a ton of friendly circuitous shitchat in others, then i'd just consider the mark of a healthy community."
maybe, i'm not here as much as I used to be so perhaps that somewhat limits which threads I see and i could have just had bad luck[ in that regard, still this site hasn't really been that fun to be on for a couple of years at this point personally. my taste has also expanded to stuff that would be impossible to discuss on sput anyway, so when i do listen to something and every thread is filled with people not even discussing anything related or just making off-hand comments, it gets rather tiresome
"the miseryguts antics you're describing are something i see more for bands/albums-of-the-moment than anywhere else - and yeah, it's tiresome when everyone checks an album for the same reasons as everyone else and therefore wants to stand out with an opinion that doesn't correspond to anyone else's - not a sputexclusive phenom, but still an obvious one"
i'll agree with this, but i just don't see how people do that and not think they look like a massive tit. i think contrasting opinions are great when they add something to the discussion by providing a point to analyse, that other places don't really have the capability to germinate in a non-stunted way. to respond to sitar, yeah I did (although somewhat exaggerated there, think it probably happened a dozen times all in all) and it was pretty dumb. was mostly interested in breaking the page though in fairness. but i wouldn't go into every other thread that hits the frontpage or every new release and do it, there's somewhat of a difference. plus my previous point of growing up and not being so easily amused by being dumb.
|
| |
"personally, the last two years were huge for my discovery, but i never realised how easy it was to lose sight of things that inspire you about music in an overactive jumble of other people's masshyped paper trails - following too much of that shit for its own sake sucks and leads straight to bitterness central. much more mindful of keeping a positive headspace this year, but i can relate to the culture you're describing and think it's actually p vital to spotlight it from time to time"
sure i get this angle, but i just don't get the flex certain people have to shit all over stuff. when people do that it feels so ingenuine and as if they're looking for a reason to hate something, and I just can't stand that outlook. i'm kinda lucky in the sense that i've got irl mates who I have significant overlaps in taste with, with whom i have really good discussions, and even when we disagree it's interesting and i can understand them. to a slightly lesser extent this happens in the discord servers too and i find that pretty good as well. the way to approach disliking something should not be to initiate faux-elitism, and even less when that is not backed up by anything at all, it just looks like (and nearly always is) posturing to make up for a lack of attention. it just screams insecurity in your own tastes and opinions. i don't really get hating or strongly disliking any music anyway but that's more a personal philosophy. anyone who spends more time sitting around hating things rather than bigging up the things they like just strikes me as rather sad and closed-minded. tl:dr i hate elitists [907829990]
"i also relate to how disenfranchised people on sput have felt by the mammoth hype they've racked up in practically every other pocket of the internet;"
perfectly entitled to feel that way, but the answer to that isn't to spend time putting it down as it is to let everyone know the things you like (which obviously in your case you do which i respect and find engaging). and if someone struggles to like anything in music, either they're lazy or they're insufferable
"being told that something you feel indifferent to negative about *is* the future when all the signs are indicating as such seems like a pretty sympathetic basis for digging your heels in, no?"
see above, but i'll add i don't think there's any valid reason to 'dig your heels in', close-mindedness and entrenched thinking are never the right way to approach something.
|
| |
I find it's fairly common across all media. When a piece of art or entertainment gets a ton of buzz online, it inevitably reaches the eyes and ears of someone who wouldn't be too fussed on it. They listen to it and give their opinions. I think there's also a sort of FOMO element to it. I'm not sure what the correct term here is but the feeling is like "I don't get why people like this. Am I the only one?"
Last year, I recall a number of similar comments about Arlo Parks' debut. Of course, she is getting a lot of press coverage and hype from the media. So much so that people who didn't like her album were calling her an industry plant.
Other popular UK acts like The 1975 had so many detractors when they hit it big that they would often comment on or acknowledge those reactions in songs and music videos.
I suppose it's the curse that comes with any creative gaining success. There's always going to be people who don't get it and they're not altogether fussed about sugar coating it. Maybe it’s an ego thing. Frustration over the fact that people like something that they don't like or maybe it's just fun to vent that anger somewhere. I dunno.
|
| |
"on top of that, so much of this band's schtick is rooted in post-ironic snark that i think it's hardly surprising to see the same levelled back at them; live by the sword"
i really don't see this angle at all with the band tbh, or at least not in the way I interpret it (which could be wrong, although the way people use this kind of criticism i don't think it is). it can't be because of the actual music/instrumental parts, unless its to be gleemed that slint, godspeed and countless 70s/80s art rock bands were just 'ironic'. the lyrics i get are not everyone's cup of tea, which is fine. but i don't get what's ironic about semi-obscure pop-culture references, which are definitely not new or 'irony' or 'post-irony'. nor are more nonsensical lyrics. so i guess it has to be the band as a whole, but the phrase to me implies that the art isn't genuine, that it's just there to piss off a certain type of people, rather than art being made because it's art. the same thing was said about pc music five years ago when all they did was just make music they wanted to make, people just applied the 'commentary on society' angle themselves then decided to hate it for that reason. the only time i really can ever notice irony in music is with parody music (in which case, it's a parody man) or that representing a rebellious counter-culture movement as in punk and hip-hop, in which case yeah, that';s the point. calling things ironic or post-ironic or whatever, or treating it as such, is as much of a dumb buzzword as calling anything that isn't four dudes with guitar bass and drums hipster.
|
| |
@HelloJoe Arlo Parks is great, that Mercury performance fully sold me on her. Whatever hype she gets, she definitely has the songs to back it up.
|
| |
I like her songs, too. I thought the album was maybe a bit repetitive as far as song-writing and production goes but you know, she's very talented. That Mercury Prize was pretty solid. There's always going to be records that are snubbed but the records that were nominated were good.
I just remember reading reactions to it. A lot of people were decrying the state of British music and calling her an industry plant. It's like, calm down. People like it. People don't. No need to invalidate the girl's talent and success just because you're not happy.
|
| |
"i get that there's a grinch-ass edge to the kinda comments that imply some kinda wish-they-didn't-exist/fuck-their-success attitude, but i still think most of the sput blowback is better viewed as its own thing"
sure, it's just tiring that i can go to other sites and there are people with whom i could have a meaningful discussion but can't because of the format of the website, and then come here where the potential for good discussion is abound and yet i rarely see it.it's like to get a good discussion here the 'hype' has to have come just from this site, and if somewhere else is the champion of something this site has to be the antithesis
|
| |
Idk if she had the best album, that was Hannah Peel for me. Still, it's cool to see them propping up new talent like that. It's hard to dislike her, she seems really cool.
|
| |
It wasn't my favourite either. I would have went with Nubya Garcia, personally. Then again, I would have also liked Moses Boyd to win the year before so maybe that's just a jazz preference.
All the same, it's no skin off my back whether people like or dislike something but don't make up outlandish excuses for it like "Arlo Parks is being shoved into our ears because... something something." At least have reason relevant to the music.
|
| |
wtf happened here
|
| |
"sinternet btw goes out of his way to perpetuate hostility more than like any sputnik user ever"
you've been using this site like two years pal during which I've barely been on, but even without that this would still be wildly false, think criticising the last muse single was the first time ive really made a stupid post in that vein in a long time
"and it's no surprise that the guy whose vocabulary consists primarily of "retard" doesn't actually help to contribute the substantive discussion points he's yearning for"
it's a good word bud, very descriptive
on a tangential note, i was just bemoaning the inability to do exactly that. if i do try bumping a thread these days it barely ever gets a response, so what's the point in trying really
|
| |
Oh also that Pharaoh Sanders record, holy shit .
I understand people's skepticism when that happens, she's an artist that seemingly came out of nowhere. But she'd been making music for a while, Partisan picked her up and she got a lot of attention from outlets like NME and Radio 1 (which are still hugely influential to the wider public).
I absolutely don't mind a new artist getting a ton of hype when their music isn't shite.
|
| |
"it's a good word bud, very descriptive"
Dude just stop. Either be an edgelord (like you always have been) or don't, otherwise go back to rym and stop whinging about this site, you're making a tit of yourself.
|
| |
I don't have the confidence to say whether an artist is genuinely bad or not. Unless it's fairly obvious they're not trying their best (see Maroon 5). Sometimes music is hyped up in genres I wouldn't typically listen to, and I generally keep away from those conversations.
NME, Radio 1 and I'd say The Guardian too are definitely contributing voices to the public perception of an artist in the UK. It can also be the case that not garnering enough hype from these outlets can make your album slip under the radar a bit. Maybe it's just me but I felt the UK slept on Lianne La Havas' recent album. It was an excellent one.
Black Country, New Road are getting a lot of positive buzz, though. Can't say whether that buzz will transform into finances. Maybe not enjoying the same financial success that Arlo Parks is, I imagine but they're working hard and doing their thing. Can't knock em for that.
|
| |
"I find it's fairly common across all media. When a piece of art or entertainment gets a ton of buzz online, it inevitably reaches the eyes and ears of someone who wouldn't be too fussed on it. Am I the only one?"
fair enough, but that doesn't really then add up to an attitude that acts as if other people are just delusional sheep who can't see the cracks in the ceiling like me, when that happens to me I just move on and find something else I do like to engage with.
"Last year, I recall a number of similar comments about Arlo Parks' debut. Of course, she is getting a lot of press coverage and hype from the media. So much so that people who didn't like her album were calling her an industry plant."
I didn't hear about this, and still need to check her album actually so thanks for the reminder. And yep, the industry plant angle is perhaps the worst of all. Similar thing now is happening with Wet Leg, who started getting buzz last year and people just assumed were some put-together label band. I have a friend who knows one of the members, and can attest that they've been performing under various projects for a while already and as a lot of bands do, scrubbed their profiles when they started getting some attention from labels.
"Other popular UK acts like The 1975 had so many detractors when they hit it big that they would often comment on or acknowledge those reactions in songs and music videos."
yep that's gotta be pretty annoying. i'm not a huge fan of theirs outside their early stuff, but they're undeniably talented
"I suppose it's the curse that comes with any creative gaining success. There's always going to be people who don't get it and they're not altogether fussed about sugar coating it. Maybe it’s an ego thing. Frustration over the fact that people like something that they don't like or maybe it's just fun to vent that anger somewhere. I dunno."
You gotta expect bitter people who want to rain on a parade yeah. I don't even think that's too bad always, as an occasional dumb riff. I really don't care too much if people wanna comment stuff like "shit band" really and leave it at that. It's more when people actually put in the effort or spend an unreasonable amount of time into being negative. It's instantly unlikeable and just reminds me of cringy teenage shit, because hey i was that cringy teenager. It's even less excusable when you're old enough to move out of your parents house though.
|
| |
It's like ego or something. People are so sure of themselves that everyone else must be blindsided or tricked in some fashion as to not see what they see. It's the same mechanics that drive a lot of conspiracy theories, I'm sure. "I see the truth. It's everyone else who is wrong." You must be fairly confident in yourself to hold an opinion like that.
Going back to The 1975, during their first album and initial rise to success, there were UK press outlets that blamed nepotism on their success; that Matthew Healy's parents are the reason they rose to stardom (being the son of two soap opera actors). That must be the reason, right? It can't be that 80's pastiche was just hitting its stride and that infectious pop hooks are a tried and true way of generally reaching the ears of a strong following. When a person decides they are right before putting fingers to keyboard, then all manner of reasons will come out to counter the contrary.
|

"I absolutely don't mind a new artist getting a ton of hype when their music isn't shite."
people are only allowed to be excited about things if you like them got you. otherwise you get to waste your time acting as if they're morons for doing so. truly we must bow to great tastemaker tunaboy45!
"Dude just stop. Either be an edgelord (like you always have been) or don't, otherwise go back to rym and stop whinging about this site, you're making a tit of yourself."
is retard really that bad? maybe faux pas in professional conversation but pretty common lexicon. feel free to replace it with idiot or moron, if it helps. certainly, one step below vietnamese tranny though. wonder who the edgelord is, the guy who says retard or the guy posting bitter comments with a history of race and gender-based insults
|
| |
"...in 2016", you forgot to add that bit onto the end
if you think the r-word is "pretty common lexicon" you really need to go outside and talk to some people
|
| |
pretty much mate, it's just close-mindedness all the way down, with a sprinkle of narcissism in there
i didn't even know about his parents haha, they think soap opera actors have pull in the music industry? maybe they know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who works in a record label accounting department. it's like the billie eilish stuff. her parents being involved in non-musical media means jack shit to anything. being rich or fairly well-off? sure, that gets you a lot of leg-ups like studio time and the ability to pursue a career without fear of financial ruin, it takes a hell of a lot of money to just buy your way into success though. it's funny, as you say for some reason all these 'industry plants' just happen to be making music in a popular and relevant niche

| |
""...in 2016", you forgot to add that bit onto the end

how old were you in 2016? think past the age of 14 i would have known that kinda thing was off-limits, don't think you can wriggle your way out of that one, at least not enough to be chastising others
you're telling me you and the people around you have never said that something is retarded? not sure i believe that tbh based on history, but sure

I can appreciate that mental-health is rough in the age of social media. We got eyes on everything now; a direct line to celebrities enjoying themselves and earning a lot of money. There's creators out there making films, music, video games and all that. Doing what they want to do. Not easy to look at when you're barely making it by on a waiters salary or sitting in an office 9 -5. Not that any of these creative careers don't come with their own struggles and sacrifices. Games development is notoriously overbearing, Hollywood is being trapped between potential abusers, crazed fans and a press that's just dying for you to fuck up, and music... well, you only need 100,000 views on Youtube before someone is calling you a wanker.
It's mad easy to vent those frustrations out in abstract ways to a people you'll probably never need to talk to or meet in your entire life. Gossip has always gone hand-in-hand with art and culture, and the internet has dialled that up to 11. So, I agree with your assessment that there's a general negativity that can be found online. As others have responded, I agree too that it's not exclusive to Sputnikmusic. It's everywhere, man. Twitter, Reddit (That's where I saw the Arlo Parks industry plant shtick), Youtube. You name it.
It's cyclical too. Just the other day, a story about Britney Spears and her sister was doing the rounds on social media. As if Britney Spears hasn't had enough of the worlds' lens shoved in her face. Whatever about the specifics of the story and it could be reasonably argued that her sister was in the wrong but what was trending on Twitter? People making fun of her weight. People love talking shit about other people. Even if it goes against their supposed moral values.

I’m gonna have mental issues if I even try to read all those blocks.
|
| |
Damn. My paragraph game was on point. Cut me some slack, Teacup.
|
| |
You can’t call someone out for saying tranny when you throw around the r word so much. That’s just full blown egregious. God damnit I read a bit.
|
| |
Lol i didn’t even know you existed until just now so I can do that
|
| |
Deadly. That's how you get by in life. Don't exist. : )
|
| |
"You can’t call someone out for saying tranny when you throw around the r word so much."
don't think they're remotely comparable personally
he also tried calling me out first, so maybe swap that sentence around and pick the right target
|
| |
u also use a semi col when u mean an em dash
|
| |
I don't see an invalid use of the semi-colon here except one typo.
|
| |
good news article, johnny i am really excited for their new one 'the overload' out 21 Jan 2022
|
| |
so u found it then
|
| |
The plot thickens, Muzyki. The plot thickens.
Anyway, I'll be checking this album out when it releases in February. I liked the 'Concord' song but I wasn't too fussed with 'Snow Globes'. That makes it interesting.
|
| |
Song is pretty cool, a bit boring like the rest of the tracks released from the new album though.
|
| |
I've checked out the other ones today. I didn't realize there were so many singles. They're quite pretty. I like them.
|
| |
new singles were better than anything on the last album thats for sure
|
| |
"you're telling me you and the people around you have never said that something is retarded?"
Jesus fucking cringe.
|
| |
if you want good discussions then go and start them. find a specific thing you want to talk about it and then actually start the discussion. it’s a lot more effective than freaking out over the course of 20 novel length paragraphs about how others aren’t doing that. I do that far more than I hate on things for fun. also all my opinions on music are completely genuine, I just might phrase them in a flippant way because it’s an anonymous music forum and people should be able to handle some lighthearted banter about music. you don’t get to preach about how people need to be more mature if people’s opinions elicit such an emotional response from you. I have never been genuinely angry cause someone hates on some music I like. and bananas are best when they’re ripe and spotted, green bananas are nasty and I’m not the weird one for thinking that, most people like their fruit ripe
|
| |
you also can’t have “retard” be a core part of your vocabulary and then get called out on it and be like “well you said tranny 6 years ago!” lol
|
| |
Don’t let it bug you and stay safe y’all! |-)
|
| |
ye'll are a bunch o goddammit motherfuckin faggot retards to the moon n back sonny boy jim fuckers bitch
|
| |
slinternet
|
| |
so what is this band anyway
|
| |
stealing parts of this for my thesis
|
| |
Eminem was industry plant to promote Trump president and then the 1975 did the national anthem
Is real
Read your history
|
| |
This thread is bad and everyone in it should feel ashamed. Also I love everyone on Sput
|
| |
I don't know why but "post-Slint" sounds extremely off putting to me
|
| |
Post slint and vagiana
|
| |
Colton being the voice of reason really puts things in perspective.
|
| |
'you're telling me you and the people around you have never said that something is retarded? not sure i believe that tbh based on history, but sure'
yeah I have to admit this happened a lot...

He was even right about the banana thing. It’s like Mark Maguire and Sammy Sosa had a steroid baby.
|
| |
Tbh I used to be excited about these guys then I heard they were absolutely terrible live and my heart went cold. Has anybody seen them onstage ?
|
| |
"retards in here crying because not everyone wants to hear every band act like the sleaford mods-shite miserable crybaby shit about how much their life sucks, and you know actually enjoys music"
those dudes and that kind of British indie band all kinda suck too so idk man.
"don't think they're remotely comparable personally"
disagree but it might be different over there on the island. I don't rly buy it tho. "my derogatory term usage is okay but yours isn't :'["
|
| |
yeah the one thing i will give this band is that theyre far better than sleaford mods lmao
|
| |
Damned by faint praise.
|
| |
I can't tell if it's the fault of the band, the lyrics, or their irrepressably annoying fans, but all I ever hear about BC,NR is comparisons to household indie names without any substantial discussion of their sound.
|
| |
Tried this again. This song is like Jesse Lacey waking up after 40 beers and trying to perform immediately. Also possibly bad Xiu Xiu worship.
|
| |
*sinternet intensifies*

|

some of your ratings almost made you borderline unloveable but you 5'd the new sweet trip so i'm kinda head over heels rn
|
| |
Also possibly bad Xiu Xiu worship [2]
bang on
|
| |
Xiu Xiu? Okay, didn't expect that.
Vaguely curious now.
|
| |
if I see any more negativity in this thread I'm going to piss my undergarments #IStandWithSinternet
