okay, we all agree that this is a summer bop song, BUT WHY IS IT SO DARK HERE?

first of all, notice how no one's having fun. No one's smiling, there are only a few clips showing people (pretending to) smile. And Ella is the only one who dances. are they happy?

secondly, when the camera turns towards Lorde (1:32) you can see her hand gesture saying 'no, don't show it, don't show the trash on the beach' and it's kinda scary. i guess it shows that there's still something that poisons her. and after this part there's a lady just walking, it reminds me of the state in which a person simply exists, not lives.

third, no one is dancing at all. in this few clips showing people dance (2:11), can you call it dancing? more like it's a cult kind of thing.

and in shot "blink three times..." people are just standing there, with no emotion at all (2:03)

'forget all the tears that you've cried, it's over... new state of mind, are you coming my baby?' - it means either a new experience and getting rid of sadness, or entering a cult and clouding the mind.
