R.I.P. Jamir Garcia

Vladimir Salenga Garcia, better known as Jamir Garcia, was found dead by hanging in an apparent suicide on Thursday. He was the singer for the extremely popular Filipino band Slapshock, who wound up being one of the most successful Filipino metal bands in history. His suicide was preceded by a messy breakup with Slapshock, as Garcia was accused of stealing money from the band's digital sales, as well as suspicion of a mutiny for control by other members of the band.

Acquiring three platinum albums and one gold album in their home country, they were also nominated for band of the year at the 2003 MTV Asia Awards, and were a part of the prestigious Dubai Desert Rock Festival in 2008, alongside bands like Korn, Machine Head, Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying. Garcia was only 42 years old.

Was the whole backstory necessary?

Great way to show respect..."He killed himself because of this reason". Who cares why? That really shouldn't matter.

I liked the addition of the backstory. Thought it was pretty interesting.

Backstory was fine. People are going to find out about it anyway if they do any further digging.

The backstory helps but I guess implying why somebody commit suicide is a bit too much playing detective. I do think the rest of it is necessary because without I would be wondering why this band and person was significant, and now I know. RIP

It's a news story. The backstory is necessary. It's news. Context. You know, normal journalism stuff.
