Soilwork release new song

2020-10-23 by Fernando Alves CONTRIBUTOR | 17 Comments
Swedish metallers Soilwork released a brand new song, 'The Nothingness And The Devil', from their upcoming EP A Whisp Of The Atlantic, out December 4th, via Nuclear Blast. The EP was produced by Thomas "Plec" Johansson and Soilwork at Nordic Sound Lab in Skara.

'The Nothingness And The Devil' official video can be streamed below.

Director: René U Valdes of BRAVO & BRAVO FILMS

Guitarist David Andersson states: "Between 'the Nothingness and the Devil' is a song about how the old concept of a patriarchal God doesn’t work anymore, and how everyone with any logic reasoning must accept that we have to create our own deities, if we need them. Or if we don’t, we’ll have to accept the fact that our lives are essentially meaningless unless we are able to find our meaning and make ourselves feel fulfilled. The video also hints at the emasculation of a male god, and how gender shouldn’t be a factor in any form of religious discourse anymore. Perhaps this is the time to question your beliefs and accept that no God will correct the mess that we all have put ourselves into."

Tracklist:
1. A Whisp Of The Atlantic
2. Feverish
3. Desperado
4. Death Diviner
5. The Nothingness And The Devil

Excited for the EP, but Death Diviner was way better.

I really don't like the production? The drums are so overblown it makes it almost tiring to listen to.

I mean considering that 4 of these songs have already been released, might as well rate it am I right?

Like the song though, the outro was nice

They stated that this was their most ambitious release yet and I really don't see how...

I thought the same thing but I believe the opening track on this EP is 16minutes long... which would certainly be their most ambitious feat.

most of the song is pretty meh. is this still the same crew that did TLI/TRM?

I think they should do more mellow atmospheric stuff like the outro

let's just be happy that they gave us the living infinite and the ride majestic a good 15 years into their careers and leave it at that

"and believing in any Religion is stone age way of thinking"

That's a convenient way to push aside finding any real purpose in life. The deeper you delve into your mind and spirit the more you see that, whether you call it God or the universe, you have a purpose to serve. And that service makes life worthwhile

there is no inherent, predetermined "purpose" in life though. you're born, you live, you die. it's about how you choose to spend your time.

there's a bit of r/atheism cringe here but the song is decent, agreed that the drums sound off. seems like they decided the best ride cymbal sound was whatever gave off the harshest possible ping
