Meh...I don't give a shit about this project since they released plastic beach. I'm out.

i love the cure but this is garbage.

"6. The Pink Phantom ft. Elton John & 6LACK"
discuss
|
| |
some of these are like playing Madlibs with Gorillaz features lol
gonna rule
|
| |
robert smiths voice has not aged in like 30 years. super impressive tbh
would rather a new cure album tho
|
| |
yeah it's actually kinda amazing really that Robert Smith's voice hasn't changed like, at all considering his technique isn't all that conservative
|
| |
yeah he just naturally sounds the way he does which is kinds wild really
"would rather a new cure album tho"
don't worry I'm sure 4:28 Scream and Wish deluxe are dropping any day now.... right
|

Was happy with 'The Now Now' because it felt like a legitimate Gorillaz album, but I can already tell this is going to be Humanz all over again. Might as well rename the group Albarn and Friends at this point.
|
| |
thank you, judas priest album username
|
| |
you... you know Gorillaz has literally always been just Albarn and a guy who does the animation right
|
| |
This is already better than Humanz tbh and Now, Now felt more like a "The Fall" type release (but good instead of not good) rather than a full on Gorillaz release so this will probably end up being their best since plastic beach
|
| |
humanz has a couple of absolute jams but yeah on the whole it was a bit underwhelming, lots of filler
Heard Aries and was also pretty underwhelmed, the other song from a while back was a bit better though (momentary bliss maybe?). Haven't listened to this song yet. The good thing about Albarn is even though I don't like every song he does, every album has at least a few great songs that make it worth checking out.
He also has a talent for writing a ton of songs and no two songs really sound the same. Not many bands with that amount of material can make the same claim. He definitely keeps things interesting if nothing else.
|
| |
Aries is my fav gorillaz song since at least plastic beach tbh
|
| |
so is every album gonna be "their best since plastic beach" or do Gorillaz fans plan on having a new opinion sometime soon
|
| |
The fuck are you talking about no one liked humanz or the fall except like Rowan and rabidfish
|
| |
This was ok! Didn't really need a new one but who knows, might be nice.
|
| |
"no one liked humanz or the fall except like Rowan and rabidfish"
lmao basically ye. I have a theory that neeka is just picking his takes out of a hat at this point lol
Aries is def the best but the sheer presence of Smith puts this one up there tbh
|
| |
Looks like this is gonna be an all-collaboration album.
Humanz was pretty bad, The Now Now was just alright. This feels like Gorillaz are almost getting back on their feet after 3 straight disappointments.
|
| |
They're in full Humanz collab mode but the songs are playing waaay more to the guests' strengths
|
| |
The Now Now is an incredibly groovy and well executed LP
|
| |
i miss listenable gorillaz.
|
| |
idk, I liked The Now Now well enough but I can't get excited about this. Gorillaz feel a bit played out at this point.
|
| |
Nah 75% of the singles have been better than anything they've done in about a decade y'all need to catch up
|
| |
The instrumental is giving me Crash Bandicoot vibes. Also Robert Smith sounds incredible on here.
|
| |
Gotta admit that, save for Pac-Man, this Song Machine compilation album thing does nothing for me. Wasn't Humanz criticized for having too many features? If so, I don't understand why this is getting so much praise.
|
| |
because most of the features were poorly thought out and not catered for, whereas most of these are written with the actual artist more in mind and so it ends up being more cohesive
|
| |
Yeah, but on most of these it feels like Gorillaz take the back seat or get a bit too influenced by features. Aries is the biggest culprit imo. It's much more New Order and barely any Gorillaz beyond 2Ds signature filtered vocals. It's not like this hasn't happened before (e.g. Latin Simone), but even then it still sounded like them. As much as I like that Damon's bringing in many artists I love, these songs are just meh to me.
|
| |
I've never cared about "too many features" for Gorillaz. That's not why Humanz was bad. Considering Gorillaz is straight up a mirror to the pop music of the time of each release, the features have always been a pretty quintessential part of the band and most of their best songs. They got more prevalent with Plastic Beach but that is arguably their best alb.
|
| |
Gorillaz have always traversed many genres. That's part of the entire theme. There's nothing different here. Aries rules.
|
| |
No, I get that, but I feel like certain consistency that was present on nearly every album up until now just kinda isn't here. Idk, maybe I'm looking at this wrong, maybe my opinion changes, who knows.
|
| |
"Yeah, but on most of these it feels like Gorillaz take the back seat or get a bit too influenced by features."
do you have an example of this?
"Aries is the biggest culprit imo. It's much more New Order and barely any Gorillaz beyond 2Ds signature filtered vocals."
"It's not like this hasn't happened before (e.g. Latin Simone), but even then it still sounded like them. "
Again what is the Gorillaz "sound" cause, I mean especially Latin Simone which really is a sonic outlier in their discography. I wonder if what you're associating as being the "Gorillaz" sound is actually just Albarn's falsetto.
|
| |
"No, I get that, but I feel like certain consistency that was present on nearly every album up until now just kinda isn't here."
Tbh I've never thought of Gorillaz as consistent, stylistically or in terms of quality or anything like that.
|
| |
Pretty boring. Not like I expected it to be very good, though. I don't think they'll ever capture the magic of the first 2 albums again.
|
| |
sputnikmusic.com users love a good whinge about Gorillaz daring to exist after 2005
|
| |
Hard to deny reality.
|
| |
apparently not for you

i'm not whinging.
