R.I.P. Martin Birch

2020-08-10 by JP Patino Izquierdo | 14 Comments
Whitesnake's leader and ex-Deep Purple vocalist, David Coverdale, just announced on his Twitter account that producer Martin Birch passed away at the age of 71.

Martin Birch was an essential name in the conception and development of heavy metal throughout the '70s and '80s, being the producer for Deep Purple and Rainbow in the '70s and Iron Maiden and Dio's era Black Sabbath in the '80s.

He also produced, engineered and mixed for plenty of other important bands and artists like Fleetwood Mac, Wishbone Ash, Whitesnake, Blue Öyster Cult, Jeff Beck and Jon Lord among others.

Really sad news, Martin is an almost mythical figure to me. He's intimately connected to Maiden's golden era.

RIP Mr. Martin Birch

Fuck man, he is the man behind Maiden's 7th Son, which is my top 3 of all time. Jamming inbound.

RIP

I know the dude had been retired for a long time but a part of me always wanted Maiden to try one last album with him. I’d love to know how it sounded and I have a feeling he would’ve pushed them out of their comfort zone they’ve been stuck in the last 14 years.

His work is a major part of what made Maiden my favorite band. Miles ahead of so many of his peers. RIP.
