Not usually a huge fan of songs this politically explicit, but this stuff is powerful
the outro is especially gorgeous

I wish the the best no sarcasm.

cringe and bluepilled tbh

As much as I respect them for willingly torching their career to stand against the Iraq War, this is a rather performative and lame move I think
|
| |
I don't wholly disagree that it's partially performative, but a large portion of their career has been about distancing themselves from the southern imagery their genre contains so it makes sense to me
|
| |
this will make the shittiest people i know mad. good on them.

Better name change than Lady Antebellum -> Lady A
|
| |
I dunno if any of y'all follow Saving Country Music, but they are pretty great with covering new/lesser known country music. The main writer is also very much a "racism and sexism against white men exist and the left are just as bad and bigoted for painting broadstrokes against the right", but also isn't super Trump-y. His political takes are always . . . Interesting. So needless to say, his reaction to this will be fun
|
| |
don't know what "dixie" or "antebellum" mean tbh
i support them tho
|
| |
How did I forget to rec the Dixie chicks to neek in his list
|
| |
Neek check counting crows
|
| |
"The Chicks drop the Dixie"
damn, I'd have imagined they'd dropped it all by now...
|
| |
LMAO we all know how that Lady A thing turned out...
https://www.rollingstone.com/pro/news/lady-antebellum-lady-a-country-blues-1013919/
“This is my life. They’re using the name because of a Black Lives Matter incident that, for them, is just a moment in time,” says the original Lady A, a 61-year-old black singer who’s released multiple records under the name
|
| |
"Chicks" is problematic in and of itself. Should've just rebranded as The Southern Womyn.
|
| |
But they were trying to distance themselves from being southern, so then they should just be "Women"
|
| |
i would've had to read the first sentence of this article to infer that. give me a break.
|
| |
band should just ditch names altogether
|
| |
just an empty space that you need to highlight to know exists
- Gaslighter (2020)
|
| |
okay that didn't work. one more shot and hopefully the day is over.

The thing that rubs me a little wrong about this is that the term "Dixie" doesn't really connect to or reflect the legacy of slavery in the south, it's just a general term for the region (versus "antebellum", which connotes some degree of nostalgia for the pre-civil war era South and by extension the slavery that fueled it), so the name change feels like it's less about distancing themselves from actual historic oppression and more about placating casual listeners who might be turned off by a generic reference to the American south and can't be bothered to research the term.
It's a nice gesture and all, and I have no doubt that the band had only good intentions in changing their name, but idk it just seems a bit silly
|
| |
What the hell is a Dixie anyway. Isn't the monkey from donkey Kong country 2 & 3 named Dixie?
|
| |
Nice gesture? More like empty gesture, amIrite... it is silly
|
| |
Dixie? Yeah she was named after a company that makes like paper cups and shit
|
| |
"But they were trying to distance themselves from being southern, so then they should just be "Women""
But even "women" is insensitive
probably
they should just call themselves -
a symbol of true equality
|
| |
"People"
|
| |
Chicks with dixies identifying as fellas.
|
| |
Virtue Signaling at it's finest.
|
| |
Should have changed their name to Chixie Dicks to support trans rights smdh
|
| |
bad comment
|
| |
What are Dixie Cups going to be called "The Cups" now? I wish people grew up into thinking adults and not overgrown children...
|
| |
what if being thinking adults is what caused them to decide to change their name?
|
| |
"The Thinking Adults"
|
| |
okay
|
| |
obligatory imagine being mad at this news comment. for real tho who cares. if they felt it was the right thing to do good on em. also agree hard with the comment about annoying the shittiest people they know.
cowboy take me awayyyyyyy
|
| |
This song fucking rules. They've more than earned the right and respect to make changes as they see fit in this manner. We need some Chicks right now.
|
| |
gonna start stanning now, not kidding
|
| |
People get so butthurt over name changes.
|
| |
Frankly I don't think music nerds ever recovered from the whole Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship debacle
|
| |
Lol should've known Sput would get annoyed by this for no reason in particular
|
| |
THIS will stop racism.
|
| |
I'd give anything to see the reaction of the one (1) Dixie Chicks follower who had no idea what their political alignments were prior to the name change and is outraged that they aren't #alllivesmatter Republicans or whatever

Remember when they beefed bush? They’ve been sick
|

Country music should drop the o, r and y.
|
| |
Just listened to this new single, not bad at all. Kind of wish they had brought a bit more of that classic country flavor but It still vibes pretty hard and the lyrics are good as hell
|

"I'd give anything to see the reaction of the one (1) Dixie Chicks follower who had no idea what their political alignments were prior to the name change and is outraged that they aren't #alllivesmatter Republicans or whatever"

Wow this thread really brought all the liberals together. Antebellum and Dixie, they reference the civil war era. People fought and died to end slavery, it ended. Get over it and stop being offended by everything.
|
| |
like bands you don't listen to changing their name?
|
| |
Gordo the only thing offending me rn is your 5s my dude ayyyyy
|
| |
Ironically the only post in this entire thread that comes across as upset to me is that gordo comment
The rest is literally just people cracking jokes and the odd person saying "this seems disingenuine".
|
| |
"Wow this thread really brought all the liberals together. Antebellum and Dixie, they reference the civil war era. People fought and died to end slavery, it ended. Get over it and stop being offended by everything."
lmfao

Ironically you come off as the most offended person in this thread. The band changed their name, "get over it"
|
| |
favorite bands

|
| |

|
| |
Ooooooooh lemme know whatcha think!
|
| |
Did not expect to be proud of Sput with this thread
|
| |
"As a definite geographic location within the United States, "Dixie" is usually defined as the eleven Southern states that seceded in late 1860 and early 1861 to form the new Confederate States of America."
Makes sense. Seems pretty cut and dry. Dixie definitely is more than just 'southern culture' slang, and they dropped it. Unfortunately, that just gives people more time to bitch about them using the word 'chicks', ha ha.
|
| |
Are Isis still using that name or...?
|
| |
Didn't they break up?
|
| |
Dixie the term came before dixie chicks and is a direct reference to it.
ISIS the band came before ISIS the terrorist organization and isnt even a reference to the same thing.
So it's a bit different
|
| |
Didn't Isis change their name to Isis (the band) just to avoid any confusion
|
| |
Andrew Jackson Jihad changing their name to AJJ would be a better comparison.
|
| |
Ig this is good
|
| |
Agree satty
And @komp I dont believe that was ever an official name change, especially since it was after they broke up, I think they just changed shit like their facebook page to that.
|
| |
Ahh alright, yeah I just heard third or fourth-hand that they had changed their name and never bothered to check lol
|
| |
what was the reasoning behind that, because jihad is a dirty term? I remember ppl on here being mad about that one
|
| |
Pretty sure it had more to do with not wanting to be associated with grade-A bag of shit Andrew Jackson.
I was fine with their reasoning, but AJJ is such an awkward abbreviation to say out loud.
|
| |
Bands are always so uncreative with name changes, just go whole-hog and rename yourselves something totally new and different dammit
|
| |
"The two biggest reasons for this are:
1.) We are not Muslims, and as such, it is disrespectful and irresponsible for us to use the word jihad in our band's name.
2.) We no longer wish to be a living reminder of president Andrew Jackson. Interesting historical figure as he was, he was an odious person and our fascination with him has grown stale."
fair
ofc the news article for that was a shit show lol
|
| |
"Bands are always so uncreative with name changes, just go whole-hog and rename yourselves something totally new and different dammit"
But then u run the risk of everyone completely forgetting who tf u are like when idiots on here change their name to unrelated shit
|
| |
Idk I think dedicated fans will manage to keep track of what you're up to and casuals are just as likely to lose track of you if you change your name to something vaguely similar
|
| |
Remember when Prince changed his name to a symbol and everyone was like, that man is craaaazy, like a fox.
|
| |
"Idk I think dedicated fans will manage to keep track of what you're up to and casuals are just as likely to lose track of you if you change your name to something vaguely similar"
yeah but in the struggling music industry can bands really afford to lose their casuals?
|
| |
How much income do casual fans generate tho? Not much if Spotify revenue is anything to go by. One superfan who buys concert tickets and a bunch of merch will make an artist more money than 500 casuals who stream the album a half dozen times and call it a day
|
| |
well i wouldn't say spotify revenue is anything to go by for bands
touring is where most of the money is for most bands, especially since they can sling their merch there too. and of course casuals fill up the extra space at shows and buy merch on a whim. so yeah no i'd definitely argue that most bands on the planet would most definitely consider the loss of any fans at all over a name change considerable. especially ones that don't make much to begin with.
|
| |
"Didn't Isis change their name to Isis (the band) just to avoid any confusion"
They toured as Celestial if that's what you mean.
|
| |
you hear about this new Lady A shit?
|
| |
Lol yea. What a bunch of clowns.
|
| |
The ironing of it is delicious lol
Make a news article please
|
| |
Saw a meme on FB calling the band "LADY ANTIBLM" and it's the most perfect thing.
|
| |
lmfaoooooo
|
| |
That's some juicy shit
|
| |
Lady Antebellum suing a black woman so they can use her name to appear less racially insensitive is a real galaxy brain move tbh
|
| |
white people that shit
