Since God of Love dropped I have completely bought into Liturgy and their older albums, used to consider them a more trendy Krallice honestly. Think this is my favorite project from them, hope the weirdly passionate hate for them doesn't get in the way of this album being enjoyed - metal aoty for me

unabashedly excellent record that finally rationalizes the band's pot-smoking, thesaurus-abusing philosophies

Yooooo fuck yeah God of Love was sick
| |
I’ll edit that in. Sorry. And nah I’m not hating. I gave the album a 4.5. I’m just saying you can’t usually forget that. OR providing some background for those who may not know who they are

Well, I know what I'm listening to for the next hour.
| |
what did we do to deserve this

HHH gives a bad name to philosophy students but hey if the album's good i'm sure the discipline's willing to take a hit

This album is weird. Half of it is great, the other half is absolute garbage. God of Love and HAQQ are exceptional, and Virginity is pretty good too. Though, I think Hunter overuses "glitchy" sounds and stylings throughout the entire album. The first couple of times you hear them it's novel and fun, after that it's annoying and grating. The interludes are complete trash. Like, holy shit they're bad. HAJJ and Pasaqalia aren't great either. They sound like Hunter listened to Deafheaven and Animal Collective at the same time as he watched the Netflix Castlevania series while on acid, then he had a fever dream when the acid wore off and swore it was divinity working through him. I'm looking at giving it a 3/5, though the interludes are so horrible I might land on a 2.5 after another listen or two.

Hating Liturgy is still as fun and relevant as it was seven years ago but damn this is one hell of a good record.
| |
It do go hard in tha paint!
| |
the fact that 'haqq' on the album art isn't centered is pissing me off
| |
ahahaha

'About as pleasant as a surprise as being raped in prison'
about as surprising as the fact that metal losers haven't been frozen out the gene pool yet
| |
they have

there's a factory somewhere that keeps on churning them out. We need to shut it down.
That feels like the plot to a feminist dystopia film.

This is everything Hunter and the band have been leading up to. Its their magnum opus. An absolute masterpiece.

you could easily sum up this album as being the best of both worlds between Aesthethica and The Ark Work, as it has the insane black metal inspired and rhythmically meticulous songwriting of the former, and the non-metal elements of the latter but this time with additions such as harp, prepared piano, organic strings, choir vocals, lower register bells (church bells?), and i think uh midi recorders too. it's a mess of course but an organised one. aside from the usual genre hocus pocus these guys throw at you, this record stands out to me as being notably darker in tone. on some of the Exaco interludes and especially on the closer i was reminded of Tim Hecker's work of all things. there's a tension to this album rather than the bands usual triumphant sound. that triumph can still be heard on tracks like God of Love and my personal favourite Pasaqalia, a song that is exactly what i wanted this album to be all throughout. i'm a big fan of ark work and this song sounds like a more evil version of it. in general there's definitely more glitch on here too, but not used in a way that masks what is going on with the songwriting, instead using it amplify whats going on. at this point liturgy's tremolo picked guitars have practically fused with the glitch and are used merely as a texture or harmony rather than a melody. the drumming isn't as engaging as on ark work, since it's used more to just tie the groove together, speaking of which there are less syncopated rhythms or uncommon time signatures here, instead opting for tempos speeding up and slowing down to create dynamic interest or transitions between sections in songs

k
but nah

hunter hendrix blackmailed oltna to write that paragraph
| |
you're really going to cast aspersions on his integrity? sir?
| |
hunter hendrix isn't black
| |
...it really sounds like the band shitty-fluted themselves on the first song and i say that with no malice intended whatsoever
| |
my integrity is intact
| |
The cover looks like a Power Point slide from one of HHH's shitty lectures
| |
I remember buying the Ark Work vinyl cheaply without listening to it first, because it had high rating here back then, and I used to trust you guys.
That day I learned I couldnt trust you guys. Horrendous album, and I'm never listening to this band again.

Evreaia 1 the new album, fuck em
| |
i don't know anything about the wanky drama of the band and haven't heard anything else, but this album was excellent.

and it's not bad.

it's pretty ok

HAJJ is pretty bad. Let's see what God of Love is like since everyone's (apparently unironically?) cumming their pants for that one...

Listened to this a few more times and thought I was coming around on it. Then something clicked and I disliked it more than the first couple spins, and it kept getting worse. I still don't hate God of Love, but the rest of the album is a smoldering tire pit.
| |
Especially those interludes. Fuck. They sound like the incoherent ramblings of a brain-damaged butterfly attached to an Ableton controller.

the butterfly cuumed

ah yeah the wigger years

a smoldering tire pit

full of unironic cum

i can only cumd ironically it's a serious problem and ruins most of my relationships

The ark work was almost the best of 2015 (FNM - sol invictus aoty). I'm pretty excited right now.
| |
Listened a few times and I'm sorry to report my mast never passed quarter-staff :/
| |
Not as hilarious as the ark work but still pretty funny bad.
