Song has more meh than cool parts. Their Legend EP was decent but everything after was just boring, run-of-the-mill black metal.

It had been a while

“made me think of nachtmystium, i liked it”
Pretty sure they have a few former members of Nachtmystium, or at least they did at the time of their last album
Gonna check this, I remember the last two albums being way better than the first couple
|
| |
I remember when they were a scene kid band.
|
| |
LMAO thank you for the Nachtmystium mention, I thought it rang a bell. Currently falling face-first down the rabbit hole of his theft/fraud shenanigans! Forgot all about that shit.
|
| |
This shit made me fall asleep like three minutes in. Checked the time and realized there was another five whopping minutes of it and just gave up and turned it off. Compositionally it's just not that interesting, and the guitar tone is so clean and tidied up it doesn't even feel like it should be utilized in a black metal environment.

i take it you

giga cringe opinion, yikes

I did enjoy that release but this band never topped the peak that In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns established. Stripping away the symphonic, melodic death and core elements for run of the mill European black metal worship was disappointing to say the least.
|
| |
There were symphonic elements on "Becoming," and there are also on this album (on other tracks than this one). No ITSOATS style but more chamber-oriented.
|
| |
The Departure from ITSOATS is the best thing they've ever done:

Can't believe they got Trym to record drums on that
|
| |
Thousand Suns was just black metal for core kids, mainly (not all of it)
Becoming was a dumbfuck attempt at second-wave black metal, already got enough of those, no thanks
|
| |
@Carl, lol dude just read your comment.
as much as I love Lewandowski's (ahem Beksiński's) artwork, I'm getting tired of seeing it every couple weeks on a new metal release.
Was becoming their stab at Cascadian black metal? band has morphed so much over the years

Yeah, pretty much. A very poor one at that. They got progressively worse with each release too. Should've stuck to one formula and worked on that.
|
| |
Surprised they didn't try death metal or tech death after Sorceron's involvement with Aborted and the Faceless respectively.
|
| |
feel like this band is getting the short end of the stick more often then not on here. I find them to be great songwriters who constantly jump between genres and do them well. thats a cool and fairly unique trait in itself.
|
| |
band gets the shit end of the stick on here for absolutely no reason, releases solid albums and either it's not trve enough or sounds similar to other artists in the genre
|
| |
I think it's more about the insecurity of certain black metal fans. Their friends might not think they're cool enough if they like the band that had negative PR for shifting styles, even though that's completely normal to evolve your sound. Their last album in particular was fairly unique and totally incredible.
Anyway, the only people I've seen shitting on this track are on this board. So far, everywhere else, people have been really excited.

That was actually pretty good. But why are the vocals so high in the mix?
|
| |
hmm, i honestly didn't notice them being too high in my cans. The mix itself is pretty dense, so maybe so they don't get so buried in there. But I agree, the song is pretty good!
|
| |
Ever So Bold is excellent! Love it.
