RIP Johnny Kitagawa

John Hiromu Kitagawa, better known as Johnny Kitagawa, passed away July 9th from complications following a stroke. Kitagawa is best known for his massive label Johnny & Associates, also known simply as Johnny's, which produced some of the best-selling boybands in not just Japan, but in the world. Several of the artists on Johnny & Associates, including SMAP, Arashi and Kinki Kids, are among the best-selling artists in Japanese music history, with Arashi ranking the highest at number 11. To date, Kitagawa's label ranks among the most powerful in Japanese music, nearly 60 years after its initial founding. Kitagawa was 87 years old.
