Pretty underwhelmed tbh.
New logo kinda sucks too
| |
guess they ditched the Halo-theme they had going
these guys have almost always been generally fun, song is no exception. Nothing amazing but just a fun deathcore song.
| |
I wouldn't say this sounds like "traditional death metal", bit of a stretch especially since it sounds very deathcore-y still. Might just be me but that was a long 5 minutes.
Still digging it though.
| |
Not as distinct as the material on Reclaimer but I still really dig this. As long as they have Chris on guitar and Ben on vocals I don't think they're capable of letting me down.
| |
That was dope, his vox are so good
| |
shit, the thing I most liked about these guys were the Halo lyrics
| |
Vocals are fucking sick. m/
| |
hell.fuggin..yeh
| |
After a half-dozen listens it has definitely grown on me. It's still heavy as hell with ben showing off his vocal range and the breakdown close to the end must be replayed more than once.
| |
Upon first couple listens, I am also quite underwhelmed, hopefully it works better in conjunction with the album,
Also yea, that new logo is just bad...
| |
Ben said that the album doesn't really have a single style and that they wanted every track to be unique, so this isn't necessarily "the style" that we can expect from the rest of the tracks. I prefer their more melodic stuff in general but I'm sure there will be plenty of that on the album, this scratches that angry in-your-face itch for me just fine.
| |
It's good but definitely missing something. The symphonic elements are a little underwhelming. They were by far and away the best deathcore band in the genre over the past few years so not sure why the urge to change the sound. In saying that potentially the rest of the album might not have the same sound one could hope.
| |
Only jammed Reclaimer by these guys, thought it was just decent. Guess I should give them another chance.
| |
this was dece. they've definitely done better. funny music video.

"I'd be cool with blackened deathcore"
is there even any blackened deathcore though, i know a lot of deathcore bands these days like to think of themselves that way even when they hardly have anything to do with black metal at all. i'd like to hear an actual blackened deathcore band.
| |
They just put some symphonics in, that's all.
| |
"is there even any blackened deathcore though, i know a lot of deathcore bands these days like to think of themselves that way even when they hardly have anything to do with black metal at all. i'd like to hear an actual blackened deathcore band."
not really but the last Carnifex album had parts that called to mind some of the well known symphonic black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir.
| |
getting rid of the halo themes kinda sucks, because it was only the really BIG thing that separated these guys from the rest of the pack, but i'm still excited to see if the new album's any good at least
| |
I'd be cooler if they just chose to do concept albums based on other stuff.
| |
I dunno, I seem to get kind of a haunting vibe from the song and the album artwork, maybe that's the concept 'horror aesthetic', either way I dont really mind as long as the music's good
| |
Guitar work is a slight step down but these vox are fuckin' mean man
| |
@AdolfChrist I get what you are saying but when a band calls themselves "Blackened Deathcore" I personally can definitely hear the black metal influence. Listen to "Underneath a Sullen Moon" the first single for the album. The BM is evident. Also yeah the newest Carnifex album is blackened deathcore and it's an awesome record.
| |
Yeah, it definitely tends to be in small doses that the BM influence shows through. I still await the day for Darkthrone with breakdowns tbh
| |
" featuring a more traditional Death Metal style"
anything but. this song is solid but this is a very modern sounding death metal, and still holds a very strong deathcore sound as well.
| |
If this is still deathcore and not more death metal like the article is trying to say, then i'll continue to stay far, far away.
| |
@arditi idk, for example Bog Wraith has hardly any black metal elements, Lorna Shore has a little but not nearly enough for the "blackened deathcore" tag imo...im not saying they have zero BM elements, just not enough to justify calling themselves "blackened", it's misleading and leaves me disappointed every time. its like these "blackened deathcore" bands think that if they have a few tremolo picked riffs over blast beats, all of a sudden theyre part black metal.
isnt Carnifex more death metal than deathcore these days anyways? havent listened so i wouldnt know, it's just what i thought ive seen people saying about them. Underneath a Sullen Moon has some black metal influence in parts for sure. Shadow of Intent is still far from being blackened overall though.
| |
"If this is still deathcore and not more death metal like the article is trying to say, then i'll continue to stay far, far away."
its not really any more death metal than Reclaimer's material. that part needs to be taken out of the article.
| |
"getting rid of the halo themes kinda sucks, because it was only the really BIG thing that separated these guys from the rest of the pack"
lol what. i know the symphonic deathcore thing has been done before, but there still arent a lot of bands doing it, and what really sets these guys apart is good songwriting instead of boring chugging and breakdowns constantly. also Ben's beast-ass vocals.
| |
Yeeeah the halo "theme" only really extended to the lyrics. It's not like their music has ever sounded similar to a halo soundtrack or anything.
| |
i was alright with the theme but im glad they moved on, 17 year old me would have been into the Halo theme.
| |
Plus they would've ran out of reference material at some point lol
| |
@AdolfChrist if you want blackened deathcore, check out Lorna Shore
| |
Assemble the Chariots is also pretty much blackened deathcore, though they're also quite symphonic
| |
@maximomckinnon i know them.
