Weezer saw their biggest single in over a decade from an 80's cover band, and now they've doubled down on it, and while it's fun, and the music is true to the originals, they offer very little from their own corner in terms of building upon these songs. It's cover songs with Rivers on vocals, I can dig it, but they're absolutely nothing to hang your hat on or praise, and it's simply playing into this nostalgia culture where there's a new generation of people who hear very little rock music on the radio and these songs are iconic in their own right and still have an audience, I just believe Weezer in total adds nothing to the originals or makes them their own. Case in point, almost all the covers, while solid, only make me want to listen to the originals.
