I have very specific requirements for the album that I have talked about since the last record came out. Hope it fits some of them.

I can see the future; I predict a thousand comments saying, 'eh songs fine' and then the album drops and it sits at a 4.3 for like six months before dropping to a 3.7

If it keeps up from wher their last album, it’s probably gonna be a 3.5-4. I’m still excited.

They never put out a bad album yet, and I don't expect them to now. That said, they'll never top Vheissu

agreed. Even their worst album is still listenable. I expect it’ll be a progression from their last album and will be at least just as good.

I hope the new one's great, and they haven't released anything lackluster so far, but the new album was successful and Black Honey has like 10 mil hits on YT so they've tasted that sweet sweet mainstream rock success $$$ and want more of it. Hopefully the creativity and risk-taking doesn't evaporate as a result of trying to be even more popular, but I don't think it will.

yeah this is probably true, there's just part of me that wants Vheissu II even though those days are long gone. I'm also worried that they're going to pull a Classic Crime and do a really cheesy album about losing their faith that forgets to be musically interesting. But The Grey was a fine single and had some straight up amazing production, so I'm probably overreacting

When did they lose their faith? Didn't dustin put out a worship album in the past few years?

The Grey's lyrics seem to be about questioning faith, IMO. Though they have had songs about questioning faith before, earlier in their career.

Illusion and Vheissu are about even for me. Artist is still their best imo. Followed closely by Major/Minor.

You may be too young to remember but thats the same position they were in after Artist in the Ambulance and then they went and made Vheissu

Song titles certainly sound Thrice, so hopefully they show some experimentation on the formula used in TBEITBN. While a wonderful album, there were some parts that were seemingly lackluster, especially when compared to their prior output.

Thrice as a whole seem to be a band who doesn't seem to stagnate or stick to one sound entirely, though, so I'm hopeful in that regard.

Looking forward to this one. Didn't love their last one a whole lot, but I was mainly just happy to see them back. I do hope they experiment a little, and that Dustin's lyrics are more story/concept based. Feel like that's when they're at their best (Vheissu, Alchemy Index) and that was kind of missing on TBEITBN.

Last album was bad and this song/video was painfully and irredeemably mediocre and generic. Band should have ended on a high note and stayed away.

Still don't understand the fetish with Vheissu. It's a 3.0 album but both TBEITBN and Major/Minor are more consistent lyrically and melodically in my opinion.

Storm that's a good point, but TBEITBN sounds simpler and more mainstream than their previous stuff, which is why I see the possibility of them going even further in that direction to increase the popularity. Bands need the $ even more nowadays too given Internet downloading and streaming changing everything.

Dustin said in the interview that this record will be more diverse than TBEITBN - more synths, Radiohead vibes and different stuff like that including the guest vocals from Emma Ruth Rundle.

Here is the link - http://www.brooklynvegan.com/thrice-talk-new-album-palms-in-bv-interview-share-the-grey-video/

Anyway the single is great, has a Beggars vibe which is totally fine by me. AND THAT RIFF THO.

"When did they lose their faith? Didn't dustin put out a worship album in the past few years?"

Yeah, but he had a falling out with the church responsible for that album (Mars Hill, which has been kind of scandal-ridden). In an interview on Bad Christian (Emery's podcast) he said his views on the Bible have changed. So maybe idk

Dustin is still very much a christian, he's just not a conservative christian anymore and is leaning much more liberal in his theology. But he's straight up christian still.
