Beautiful.
| |
Yesssssss gonna jam tonight. m/
| |
idk about this first track.
| |
Hype
| |
I'm digging this way more than I did New Bermuda. They just seemed like they were on autopilot there. Seems like they've started to toy with different aspects of their sound again, and it's really helped the dynamics of their songwriting.
| |
Glint good.
| |
it's their best, but it's kind of disjointed.
| |
Better than 'New Bermuda' as a whole, but I still think 'Baby Blue' will forever be their best song.
| |
lol ^
Closer on this was fantastic. Some really good stuff here. Couple tracks I didn't care for, hopefully they grow on me.
| |
I am nervous
| |
I will say, though, anyone expecting an album of riffs will be supremely disappointed. The album is almost This Will Destroy You-levels of chill and atmosphere.
| |
jfc first song is woeful
| |
Not a fan of the opener.
| |
where the fuck are my tremelo's? why are there so many shitty solo's???
| |
"anyone expecting an album of riffs will be supremely disappointed"
did we listen to different albums
| |
Pretty solid
| |
"I will say, though, anyone expecting an album of riffs will be supremely disappointed. The album is almost This Will Destroy You-levels of chill and atmosphere. "
the fuck are you talking about? the overuse of obnoxious lead guitar riffs and solos are one of my least favourite parts about this album. i find them obtrusive and mood-killing more often than not.
last 3 tracks are definitely the best here.
| |
I miss the old DF :/ tremelo's and bb DF ://
| |
Why do links never work for me on sput :/
| |
gotta add a : to the // bro
| |
they never work for anyone on sput. copy+paste should do the trick
| |
Oh that worked. It offered a google search anyways so on it now. Wtf is this first track
| |
Near + Glint is so fucking good. should just stick to song interludes instead of every fucking song having a 3-5 minute random jam bullshit
| |
.... and then ofc Glint starts to drag onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
| |
boring and formulaic. most of the riffs are garbage. 2 (maybe) 2.5/5. hopefully will grow on me.
| |
Glint is best song tbh
| |
Glint is best song tbh x2 they need to learn to shave time, man. she just dragged on with samesies riff tryna achieve that weak ass atmosphere.
| |
i like this better than new bermuda instantly
| |
Glint is fantastic. Didn't drag, imo. Long songs are a part of the style and these guys are typically successful at keeping them engaging and good.
| |
yall with your broken links, add the colon after https
anyway HYPE
| |
without looking - i will guess that most songs are around 10 minutes, guitars play the same two mid-high pitched chords the entire time, blast beats, incomprehensible vocals so low in the mix that you can hardly tell they are there.
How close am I?
| |
2 points out of 4 correct
| |
not bad, maybe I'll check this
| |
they gotta bring the vocals up a little in the mix, they weren't even this low in Sunbather
| |
if they did you'd realize how bad they are
| |
heh heh *high fives*
they were good on sunbather/demo when he was trying to be raspy and black metal, then on sunbather it sounded like he got into screamo all of a sudden but wasn't good at it.
| |
Better than 'New Bermuda' as a whole, but I still think 'Baby Blue' will forever be their best song.
[2]
nothin' can top that guitar solo... man.
| |
not sure yet how it compares to sun bat her, but this is easily better than New Bermuda. it was still good, but that album was just loaded with these weird, jarring transitions and the whole thing just felt kind of underwritten. this one feels way more thought out.
| |
Finally I find other people that like Baby Blue, def my fav track on New Bermuda but I wouldn’t say it’s even in their top 5 best songs. But I’m hype as fuck to hear this.
| |
You're going to love this, Hawks.
| |
Def gonna have to check this later. Hope it's better than that overly long track they released.
| |
"Why do links never work for me on sput :/"
Because https:// links (which are the common standard now) don't work here, but http:// links do, and just redirect you to the https. So, fixed (by deleting the "s").
| |
Just Google it that’s what I did, it pops right up.
| |
Well, my convoluted point was that I killed the offending "s" here, so now the link from this page will work. No googling required.
| |
Night People is the only remotely interesting song here and that's just because it sounds more like a Chelsea Wolfe song than a Deafheaven song
| |
F A L S E
| |
I'm glad they shoved Chelsea in an 'interlude' track instead of the blackgaze ones. didn't want her to ruin them with generic ~ethereal~ vocals
| |
lol
Deafheaven fans are adorable
| |
4 mins in to first track and everything is great but can we stop the solos now thanks they're still grating and off-key.
| |
just gets worse bro, sorry
| |
nah the solos in the second half actually got better and worked with the chord progressions in the rhythm section to make an actual atmosphere and consistent melodic movement so it was better. Not a great song but dec. Thankfully im on Honeycomb now tho and i already know it's pretty dec.
| |
the end of "canary yellow" and "near" remind me of comeback era yndi halda
| |
*yndi
| |
@zar you'll get more annoyed with the solos/lead guitar as you go. they're one of the worst bits of the record easily. most of the time they have absolutely no idea where they want to be and they kill the mood so quick.
you never know whether they'll come out with a great riff (canary yellow) or completely ruin a track's momentum (last half of glint)
| |
Lol
Morons are adorable
| |
Also deafheaven remains the most unusually dividing bands on the site, cannot wait to see the huge mixture of 1's to 5's that plague a pretty solid album
| |
can you imagine getting that personally offended by someone not liking a band you like lol
| |
Can you imagine someone just having a laugh and not being serious lol
| |
idk your sense of humor my guy but calling somebody a moron doesn't come across as a joke lol
| |
you know we can complain about the faults in music we actually like, right?
| |
so far this is pretty inconsistent.
| |
I’ve been called a lot worse than a moron when I’m having a laugh with my mates lol
| |
guess it's time to learn that random strangers on the internet are not your mates and do not always share your sense of humor
| |
you got defensive because I said something negative about an album you like so I'm pretty sure you're in no position to be calling anyone a pussy lol
| |
gosh ]: !!!
| |
I called you one Cos you made a sarcy comment firstly so I gave one back
| |
they sound so artistically liberated here. it's barely a metal album and they don't give a fuck. such tightly written and confident tunes
| |
Sweet 5 lucid
| |
Not gonna lie, I’m kinda super disappointed with this so far and lol @ anyone saying it’s better than Sunbather.
| |
at least they didn't half-ass the recording like last time and have lots of un-tuned guitars shoved into the thing, but ye im almost done and pretty underwhelmed. Gonna let it sit for a few days and digest before I try it again (as per usual).
| |
I dig the last album like a million times more tbh. This is decent but shaping up to be by far their worst for me. First 2 songs are garbage but then it kinda picks up idk.
| |
honeycomb is good u fkin weirdo
| |
I’m not feeling it. Yeah the further I go into this the more I don’t like it. Maybe the biggest disappointment of the last few years honestly. :[
| |
it's basically an indie/alt rock album with bm vocals, no wonder hawks isn't digging
| |
they'll never make anything close to sun bat her, that's obvious. but I like this much more than their last one
| |
on the upside that new Pale album i rev'd is bonkers and Bosse-de-Nage have a new one in the works, sooooo ;;;)))
| |
Hopefully Bosse-de-Nage don’t disappoint idk if my heart could take it after this.
| |
I think this is def the most interesting work they've put out since Sunbather, I think they could def shave off some time to make the songs a little less ropey but it's got more standout moments than New Bermuda imho. Def looking forward to how they progress from here.
| |
when i listen to it again i'll prob just cut out the interlude tracks just like on sunbather too.
| |
I’m an avid Deafheaven fan as most of us know but I’m sadly thinking that this album is just flat out bad save for a few moments. Ugh I was expecting AOTY material.
At least new Immortal comes out tomorrow.
| |
here i am thinking it's their best record lol
even that isn't saying all that much as far as i'm concerned but hey
| |
Different strokes I guess lol.
| |
aaaaaaand From the Kettle Onto the Coil is still their best song
| |
no it the hell isn't
| |
Dream House is def my fav Deafheaven song.
| |
That’s prob second tbh hahahaha.
| |
top 3 are probably pecan tree, vertigo, and kettle
| |
kettle is god tier omg
| |
hot take (apparently): new Bermuda is good, and on certain days I prefer it to sun bat her. maybe its just where I was at the time when it came out. but the same could be said for sbh tbh
also, I enjoy this. its their happiest sounding, too bad the lyrics here are so...whats the word...damn I dont know. they're not concrete enough for me. ill have to read more interviews
| |
"they sound so artistically liberated here. it's barely a metal album and they don't give a fuck. such tightly written and confident tunes"
Agreed, it's gonna be polarizing because of how difficult and purist the bm fanbase generally is. I personally love it.
| |
or just don't read the lyrics.
| |
H-Hawks? ;-;
| |
Oh man. I was kind of flabbergasted driving home and listening to this. It's like they're parodying themselves by doubling down on the directionless songwriting and passionless solos. Very mediocre. Fine background music but nothing more. Oof.
| |
Sorry Dbizzles bro this album sucks hard. :[
| |
It’s okay. I’m sad for you, not me. I think it’s pretty solid. I think the songs and parts I don’t like will grow on me.
| |
Their best song is Tunnel of Trees.
I don't mind the opener here, for once they created an opener that didn't try to be the focal point of the entire album.
| |
yeah I will admit this was underwhelming having heard it 3 times now but it's better than new Bermuda but not by much. also yeah ive been saying they sounded like a parody of themselves on their last album but yeah that still applies here
I don't know why they threw in so many odd(in a bad way) leads and little solos all over this. those were some of the worst parts of their last one (baby blue, gifts of earth) and they seemed to have capitalized on it here, welp
| |
I think New Bermuda shits on this in every way possible honestly. Same with Sunbather and Roads to Judah on an even higher level.
| |
sun bat her is a perfect combo of their dreaminess and abrasiveness. but yeah at least new Bermuda has some balls comapred to this. way too much fluff and aimlessness on this one
| |
Yeah this one is way too soft. And I like softer music of course but this sounds like they were bored. I don’t think it’s anywhre near as adventurous or upbeat as their other stuff. Idk I just don’t like it and I’m sad.
| |
The only balls found on New Bermuda is Luna, the rest is pure ovaries.
| |
Disagreed hard.
| |
glint is fckin sickk
| |
If this didn’t have the worst album art ever would be the easier buy ever, but stoked to see this thing live in philly in a few weeks
| |
yea glint is best song on this agreed
| |
opener is a little weak but i don't mind it
overall i fucks with this
| |
Glint Glint Glint!!
| |
I very much fuck with this.
| |
The solos are some of the best parts of this, first track is fantastic, i'm glad they're not just retreading old ground on autopilot anymore.
| |
Sooooo I guess it’s time to give New Bermuda a first listen...
| |
I am loving this album...even with the songs being more post rock oriented than with their earlier albums. It is a vast improvement over New Bermuda. There is very little blackgaze out there that sounds quite like this. A solid 5 for me.
| |
I haven't gotten a chance to listen to this yet and it's killing me
| |
didn't know this band was so divisive on here, they're not the greatest band on the planet but it's not trash either
| |
Fucking vocals on the last track are so sick.
| |
Album is pretty sick
| |
Weakest opener they’ve put out. For me it’s standard Deafheaven, Glint and Worthless Animal are king tho
| |
This is infinitely more interesting than New Bermuda. New Bermuda just felt unfocused and incomplete, OCHL actually feels like the band actually cared about making solid songs from start to finish. I also think their Post Rock sound is just flat out better than their Black Metal formula, not saying it's weak, but their Post Rock sections absolutely destroy bands like Explosions in the Sky.
| |
Canary Yellow was pretty sweet, still not sure about the rest
| |
id say they are the single most polarizing band on here
used to be btbam
| |
“This is infinitely more interesting than New Bermuda. New Bermuda just felt unfocused and incomplete, OCHL actually feels like the band actually cared about making solid songs from start to finish.”
Other way around for me tbh.
| |
This was bit underwhelming on a first listen
| |
u guys and ur artsy metal
| |
jk i loved sunbather
| |
"At least new Immortal comes out tomorrow."
Yeah!
| |
I didn't want the beginning of Glint before the vocals and heavy guitars stormed in to ever end.
| |
