Mess goes off at the end talking about licking baby poop, Banger!
| |
I'M KISSING A BABY AND LICKING THE POOP
| |
Tillian sounds pretty good too
| |
A lil more raspy than usual, but I'm super pumped for this albummmm
| |
aside from the lyrics (as usual) and the ending, this was pretty decent
| |
As per the usual, people that like DGD will enjoy this, and people that don't like DGD will shit all over it.
I think it's p good
| |

BRUHHHHHHHHHH
| |
Figured I'd be kinda burnt out on DGD after running Mothership (and their discog in general) into the ground, but I'm diggin' this.
That being said, must be nice when you can make music where the lyrics just don't matter. They've written the same nonsense for almost 4+ albums now... since Mess started just combining together "words that sound right" at least. Yet I keep listening. *shrug* Sounds good at least.
| |
Ive checked every DGD and they all were 3.5s for me. I must be a weird one
| |
mingus kills this track, kinda tired of mess' lyrics. tilian seems to be gaining a rasp but losing his voice or at least his range since he started smoking more as heard in a few recent live videos. ending is cool, v DBM2.
| |
Song gets better with every listen. I've been dick-riding these guys ever since DBM2 and they've yet to disappoint me. Very very excited for this new album (which apparently features Kurt Travis and has 14 tracks on it lol).
| |
boring as shit till that Mess ending which, holy fuck the old Mess is still alive I guess
keen for the Kurt track
| |
How the fuck does this band manage to consistently sound fresh to me. Jesus I love it
| |
The chorus is absolutely fantastic and Mess kills it as usual. It sounds like Dance Gavin Dance zaniness played to the cadence of a hardcore band during the verses. Some very "traditional" DGD eccentricities sprinkled throughout which are sweet.
This and Mothership will be (up to this point) the best Tilian has ever sounded I think. He's finally taking risks with his voice.
Excited AF for the album.
| |
DGD is pretty much a formula at this point.
But god damn, is it one tasty formula.
| |
Okay i like about 3 songs total from this band... WILL I LIKE THIS?!?!
| |
Mess’ ending part of the song is the best
| |
Only one way to find out Aaron
| |
u rite...
| |
My first listen was a bit eh, but enjoyable. About 10 replays in and i'm loving it. DGD have done it again.
| |
How
| |
MAGIC
| |
Just heard from Martin (Secret Band guitarist) and he said out of the 3 songs he did for this album, this was the poppiest.
| |
Hoping for a heavier album
| |
Totally just noticed that's the robot's severed arm is in the beginning of the video, that's too gnarly.
| |
Mess's screams used to suck last time I heard this band years ago. He sounds a lot better here.
| |
Song rips, especially that ending. Hyped for the album
| |
Song is a banger yea
| |
yes
| |
bois r back fuuuuuuk yeaahhh
| |
Pretty boring, standard DGD
| |
but standard DGD isn't boring?
| |
why does tillian look like a skinny seth rogen?
| |
Why do people always spell his name with two L's when it's only one??
| |
BECAUSE I'M NEVER SURE, so I just go back and forth between one or two
| |
Rogen is overrated
| |
that chorus is gonna be stuck in my head for the remainder of the day.. possibly the remainder of the year. hell fucking yes
| |
this was REAL GOOD
| |
I KNOW
III KNOOOOOOWWWW
IT'S KILLING ME
| |
I think the drums were the strongest part of the whole song. And the ending was killer as well!!!
| |
That is a good comment Darius
| |
Disagree, I think both Tilian and Jon sound great in the mix
ESPECIALLY that ending section from Jon, my boi goes in
| |
this is so damn catchy
| |
Eh. This is ok.
| |
I didn't hate this
| |
"but standard DGD isn't boring?"
it can be
| |
Decent song, screams still suck as per usual tho.
| |
It's funny that as often as these guys pump new material out and the overall "samey-ness" of each, I've found every release to be a fresh and awesome listen.
| |
Why is he playing a Strat though
| |
God I love Tilian era DGD more and more each album. Tilian and Mess have never sounded better then these last two albums and its fucking awesome. This song is a catchy intersting riff fest till that ending knocks it out of the park. Tilian also has some pretty great hooks here. More songs soon plssss
| |
This definitely doesn't sound quite the same as the rest of the tilian-DGD albums have.
| |
"Why is he playing a Strat though"
Will Swan plays what he wants because he's a swan
| |
Interesting tweet Will put out:
"Thanks everyone for the kind words about our new track. I’m excited for people to hear the range of styles we throw down on this album. It’s all over the place. It’s impossible for us to choose a single that represents the whole album’s sound and I think that’s a good thing."
| |
Man, that gets me more hype than the single.
| |
I'm gonna wear the song out before the album even comes out.
| |
Wtf new song
Does it suck or S U C C ?
| |
Now you're on a midnight crusade flexing your stats, but you can't touch me.
| |
I'm honestly surprised at the positive reactions here.
| |
I'm not. The DGD fans on this site would lick this band's boots.
| |
Tbh I haven't even bothered to rejam their last two albums so I guess I shouldn't check this or make a judgment cause I'm not very familiar with their current sound
| |
“screams still suck as usual” fuck off
| |
I like this a lot. Especially the ending. That's a bit of a different transition and flow for them.
| |
This track was borderline boring by DGD standards up until that BRIDGE. Holy shit.
| |
Why do people like this so much
| |
Screams are fine. Lyrics are fuckboi trash, as usual. Tilian got the catchy, clean choruses on lock. Yet another DGD song that does something interesting for 10 seconds of its runtime while the rest of the track shits itself.
Pass.
| |
Will said this is going to be a diverse one and I'm really stoked on that.
| |
as per usual about 2/3s good, 1/3 bad and the bad is all Mess.
| |
I don't think I have ever seen a more overrated band. Song is a 5/10 at best.
| |
so....when did val kilmer join the band?
| |
Would I ever change opinion of DGD after I listen to this single?
Nope, still nope. Awkward vocal melody and transitions, abysmal lyrics (as always), and decent screaming. On top of that, these goddamn songwritings since Instant Gratification are just awful.
| |
Don't know what's with you grumpy guys, really enjoying this. Vox were always ''hit or miss'' with these guys tho, we know that hehehehe.
| |
i've listened to this about forty times now since it leaked out yesterday, I've gotta say I really enjoy it.
| |
''The hate will land in soon''
Dayummm Darius was right ;(
| |
is horrible lyrics just something that is accepted by dgd fans? (actually curious, not being facetious)
| |
Aberf 3.5’d a Chief Keef album lol
| |
sweet
| |
I feel like Jon's batshit, non-sensical lyrics were a byproduct of Jonny Craig being a horrible trainwreck of a songwriter on DBM II. Then it kinda caught on with IG and became intentional on Mothership. His lyrics always had a weird angle, personality and sense of symbolism to them before, but he's def gone awol lately. Tbh, I feel like he's just embraced the fact he's a meme and the fanbase just rolls with it.
| |
Personally, I see DGD as a fun band to not really take all that seriously. So things like lyrics don't matter to me in the long run, tho. As long as the music sounds enjoyable and I have some chuckles along the way, I'm good.
| |
Jon's lyrics on DBM2 were actually fun and even clever at times though, now it's just idiocy for the sake of it to, like you said, please the newer fanbase.
| |
this band has embraced their culty meme status, Jons eccentricity is vital to this band. solid track, super excited for the album
| |
last chorus into the bridge is a one way ticket to boner town for me. Can't hear the last Mess bit without thinking of the video haha
| |
Really great track. Jon is just embracing the self-parody of his lyrics by now. It bothered me a bit on mothership at first, but I've learned to love and accept the shallow nonsense that Mess has been writing for 2+ albums.
| |
so many bad mess takes here lol. The lyrics have beent this way since dmb2. "swallow your sisters night stand might cover up the clogging pores.." He just likes finding intersting ways to combine lyrics and to find either an emotionally impactful combination or a more silly one. Either way his delivery lately is nuts and if you dont like the nonsensical lyrics then sure but its not an inherently bad thing to go about them in that way.
| |
Jon Mess is the man tbh
| |
I don't know why some people take the lyrics seriously. They're just goofy nonsense. They aren't trying to be anything but ridiculous and over the top. Just look at their song titles. Their band name is Dance Gavin Dance for fucks sake
| |
amazing 10/10 would buy a bundle on merchnow
| |
has tillian always been a gap toothed son of a bitch!?!?!
| |
Yes actually
| |
''The lyrics have beent this way since dmb2.''
well yes, but i prefer stuff like ''you'll go far on the back of a potato, making french fries in the snow'' over ''i'm kissing a baby and licking the poop'' to be honest because the former is somewhere between stupid and funny, maybe even a bit clever, and the latter is just plain stupid.
| |
Baggy and awfully, bumpy and blistery, brutally homeless and fluffy
| |
HEY THEEEERE, PRETTY GIIIII-
okay lets not get carried away here, but yeah that's one of the examples of some of my fav dbm2 lyrics as well that jon seemingly just threw out and replaced with poop, sack, fap and memelike buzzwords.
| |
DBM2 is top tier Mess lyrics yea, but I still get a chuckle from his recent lyrical output
| |
awww yeah boizz thug city is legit the song that got me into DGD. So needless to say, I'm down with the lyrics. There are some bands where the music needs good lyrics to survive, and there are some bands where the music survives on its own. DGD is the latter.
| |
His lyrics on dbm2 are amazing i agree. But I think theyre still really strong in the Tilian era as well as far as being fun and silly. The man strings some creative phrases together well and his delivery has been next level since AS
| |
I always admired his gaptooth, he totally owns it. Good looking dude.
| |
10/10 would eff tillian. 11/10 if he let me put it BETWEEN THE GAP
| |
Tilian is a handsome boi
| |
good track. standard DGD and i love it. they're just consistently good.
| |
https://youtu.be/YXIyKQi_FOw?t=184
| |
lmao bloc
| |
My favourite lyric of all time
| |
At the end of the day, DGD aren't writing emotionally deep or compelling lyrical content and in a genre of music that takes itself way too seriously that's refreshing. They're just out to have fun.
That being said, nothing will ever top stuff like "I pushed a bunch of little people over once," "Widdle babby meow meow boo," or "If your mama was a bed of kites then we could fly away and fuck this night, right."
| |
"'The lyrics have beent this way since dmb2.''
well yes, but i prefer stuff like ''you'll go far on the back of a potato, making french fries in the snow'' over ''i'm kissing a baby and licking the poop'' to be honest because the former is somewhere between stupid and funny, maybe even a bit clever, and the latter is just plain stupid."
Rise Records just updated the description with lyrics, it's actually:
"I'm kissin a baby that lickin a boot
I live in a deli put meat on your tooth
My business is pregnant and flauntin off nude
Im smokin a chicken i took out the coupe"
In other words, Jon's lyrics are still batshit crazy, but licking poop is still not on the agenda here lol.
| |
well thank fuck, poop would've been a new low, read through the rest as well and it's definitely better than everyone's initial interpretations.
| |
"Im smokin a chicken i took out the coupe"
My fuckin boi
| |
How does this nigga come up with this shit lol
| |
Mess drops some gems sometimes. Like this one
"Put me in another place where I can wave at passing stars, and ask the one's who's held responsible, why planets spin like art
Drop an obelisk on top of men and teach them how to carve, a machine that sees the flaws to make circles out of shards. The invention!"
| |
New Secret Band when?
| |
I feel like his best performances have been in Secret Band songs where he gets to go apeshit vocally
| |
@Secret Band is better than DGD. Pretty sure its all the same members tho.
| |
Different bassist, another guitar player, and Mess is the only one doing vocals other than Swan here and there
| |
Check out Jon's latest instagram video. It's his best lyrical performance yet. That man is a genius.
| |
"He prob clicks the middle suggestion of his phone prediction text over and over"
lmao
| |
New track inspired me to try their last two albums again.
This band is still consistently amazing yeah.
| |
The more I listen to this song, the more I love it. Might be one of the best chorus' DGD has done. Tilian fucking nailed it on this track.
| |
I somehow missed that this came out. It's good. But writing good individual tracks was never DGD's problem, it's variety.
| |
I don't even watch this video for the song anymore, I watch it purely for Jon Mess' facial expressions.
| |
I love that Mess is the only one who acts like that lmao
| |
Maybe he's the one with the coke and laptop problems, and Craig has been innocent this entire time
| |
good song
| |
Whatever, I ain't no drug expert
| |
Betrayed by the Game's music video is probably my favorite, both Tilian and Jon are being fuckin weirdos and I love it lmao
| |
I just wanna snuggle and get cozy in Tilian’s gap
| |
Didn't expect to see that Astral guy posting on a DGD thread tbh
| |
Tilian's ahhhs in the bridge after the second chorus make me feel some type of way
| |
it's licking a boot, not licking the poop btw
| |
I prefer licking the poop.
| |
I prefer licking the poop. [2]
| |
That was already cleared up
| |
